Loghain
Carver
THE Warden? ![]()
Amongst the NPCs, probably Duncan. Because of the way Origins are structured, i really like that he shows a different part of himself, and by proxy of the Wardens, based on the situations he finds himself in. My favorite Origin is the Mage one, but my "favorite Duncan" is in the Cousland one. I just like the very Warden-ly ruthlessness he shows when he starts "negotiating" with a dying man
Oooh, Carver is number 2 on my list of favourite Wardens, then I think it's Nathenial.
Other then the hero of Ferelden, Loghain
Loghain definitely earned redemption and badass Warden status by Inquisition, it's why I prefer him as the Warden-ally.
Duncan is my favorite Warden, because he has that snark, ruthlessness and a very gooey center. Both figuratively and literally.
Nathaniel and Oghren as the disastrous duo come close after. Wouldn't mind hearing the tale of their adventures with Dog across Thedas.
Well I'd definetly like to have a real Warden as a companion.
Yeah He had compassion to outright refuse janeka of having carver or bethany. His whole family got salughtered when they got caught up in the game and instead of taking revenge he decided to stay away from the free marches so the grey wardens name wouldn't get caught up in his personal vendetta. He's humble man and hes dedicated to the order.

He did earn redemption even though I never quite knew why he turned against Cailian was it because of the battle plan being flawed and cailian over stepping his boundaries or was it because he knew Cailian was gonna leave his barren wife to marry the orlesian queen?

Probably all of the above to some extent.
Plus the stated battle plan laid down at the meeting was to have the King's Army and Grey Wardens draw the Darkspawn into the valley, then the beacon would be lit, allowing Loghian's forces to charge from cover and flank the horde.
And then Cailan ruined that entire plan right out of the gate, by ordering his forces to charge, "For Ferelden!"
Loghain may have thought Cailan was an idiot, but he probably wouldn't have retreated if Cailan hadn't screwed everything up by moving his troops out of position and breaking the defensive line he was meant to have held. Loghain had the option to either retreat, or send his people pointlessly into a meat grinder they would not have survived, to save a King who could not follow even simple instructions.
And yet, Alistair is somehow different because of what?...
The Landsmeet is very silly. The compromise that Riordan proposes is a fair one, and would satisfy the needs of justice. Its been established that regardless of Loghian's crimes, he was only doing it all for the good of the nation. That doesn't excuse his actions, and being made into a Warden is still a death sentence. Alistair's objections are understandable from an emotional standpoint, but clearly out of line. You, Anora and Eamon can have engaged in serious political wrangling to get a compromise that everyone can live with, you have just fought a battle of words in the Landsmeet to convince the Banns that the Wardens are not political opportunists, Orlesian puppers and tyrants in waiting. If Alistair's first action as King is to execute a man who has surrendered, how does that look?! Especially as he then goes on to seize lands and give them over to the administration of the Wardens, whose members typically frown on such things (Riordan expresses disdain for Wardens who do such things, and Duncan is clearly against such practices too). Nobody really wants to lose Alistair and the game doesn't really feel right if you lose him, but his stance here was so unreasonable. And the 'chop Loghain's head off in public, so his blood spalshes over his daughter's face' is so barbaric that it feels like you've stumbled into 'I, Claudius'.
Alistair really lost every point for me and i had to exile him.
I raise a glass to Garahel, Hero of the Fourth Blight!
and make a toast to him with me.

Loghain
Get out. D;
I rather freed the world from that maggot and killed him, after all those are the Wardens' policies for deserters and traitors.
I think this is also Duncan policy but i don't like to kill people that can be spared.
Duncan himself was a deserter at one point.

You mean when he did not join his commander because she had join to the Architect?
No, he tried to run away multiple times. He didn't want to be a Warden for a long time.
The Duncan we finally get in DAO is a grim man who accepted his shitty fate.

He didn't want to be Grey Warden at all, Genevieve forced his joining by claiming him as conscript prior to his execution.
Exactly. But he fussed over afterwards too.
One reason Alistair isn't a favorite of mine is he is blind to this part of Duncan. Daveth is closer to Duncan than Alistair is.
The Hero of Ferelden! My favorite Warden and protagonist. Just wish he/she had a voice.
I'm going to have to say Garahel the Hero of the Fourth Blight for this one. Not only was he a City Elf along with his sister Isseya (who indirectly caused the decline and near-extinction of the Gryphons while also saving them at the same time.) he managed to rally the vestiges of the Grey Wardens during that final battle and struck down the Archdemon alongside his best friend and mount, Crookytail.
There are of course other aspects as to why I like him, but it's better to read 'The Last Flight by Liane Merciel' to fully understand the characters. I will however pick out how at the start of the Blight (or near the beginning) Garahel started out as a young and fit Elf, ready to take on the world, yet years later into the Blight he is thinner and stress has begun to age him. The responsibility to took on during this time, coupled with acceleration of the corruption in his veins during the Blight AND dealing with the political antics of Thedas while ultimately dealing the decisive blow at the end. I teared up to say the least.
I raise a glass to Garahel, Hero of the Fourth Blight!
Heres my Garahel I made him awhile back I loved his story the most

Nice pictures of them both thats your warden I presume
Thanks! Yes, that's a shot of my Warden. I really like that Alistair art too. In fact, I got a print of it for my girlfriend!

We can't kill him twice an alpha did the job for us(which is the same i presume that kill Alistair in the Dlc)
