Wanted to start a new thread in similar fashion to an AA meeting, being that we all suffer from the same addiction. And that is...too much cowbell!

 

Perhaps people have explained some in the past, but wanted to focus this thread around where our names come from, and if there are any stories to be told of it.

 

I've said this before, but Sophloph isn't my gaming name at all. My wife had our PS3 account and I was too lazy to change from it and wound up friending people over the years, so a name change didn't interest me. Her name is Sophia, and I have no idea what the 'loph' is other than a silly verbage to rhyme with 'Soph.' The real deal closer was I had played a little dragon age MP on the PS3 way back in the day before Destruction and a little during that first expansion, and accumulated maybe 30 promotions. And thus, I play with a woman's name! If there were another DA or something in the future I wanted to get into, I would use one of my usual gaming names, like Katsumoto77(Last Samurai) or Legolas77(badass archer, but does not have leaping shot, must have been nerfed by BW)

I just want to point out that the first letter of my name is a lowercase "L".  A lot of people thought I am icneed which could mean "I see need" but it is not that!   It is LCneed.   LC for short.   LC stands for lostchild which was my online handle at The Sierra Network about 25 years ago.   Need was my character name in Yserbius which was one of the first graphical MMORPG inside The Sierra Network. 

 

Need was also the name of a sword in one of the fantasy books I read back in the 80's.

Apparently Scottish Laddies must be pretty tall if 6'1" makes you a smurf! I'm 6'5" so am I Gargamel? That analogy is immensely unproportionate, but anywho, apparently Stranger is 6'8 so he's got us all beat.

Well, I like talking about myself and my name has a history for sure.

 

My xbox gamer tag is hidethedrone.

 

I joined an aspiring pro-gamer squad around 2001.  I didn't have a good name but I liked playing StarCraft and I was best at the time at Zerg.  Hence the beginnings "drone."  We kicked around not just being "A" drone, but "THE" drone, or just drone.  Settled on "THE" drone.  More powerful.  Leader of all drones, or some such.  We had aspirings to not just be a gamer team but do comics, flash toons, etc.  So my comic alter ego was an Egyptian protector of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.  Failed, entombed with Tut, then discovered and released somehow.  We didn't get too far beyond brainstorming. lol

 

hide is actually pronounced "hee-day".  I added this later as for some reason "TheDrone" was taken a lot of places, or the number of characters was too short for some areas, or I just liked the name!  I can't remember now.  hide was a Japanese guitar player from the band X-Japan.

 

I mainly let people tell me what they think it means, I've gotten a lot of different answers over the years as it seems to have a life of its own.

At some point long ago, I had Caine as my main user name. As in Kwai Chang Caine. Kung Fu the show ended when I was four. At some point in my childhood [ around like 5-6 grade? ] I got super into the re-runs.

 

Fast forward to I believe to Diablo 1 and Caine was the name for all my first characters. So then I started naming the different classes all Caine something.

 

Right about the same time I started to play D-N-D again [ didn't last long ]. The second character I created was a monk and for or some reason I changed his name to Kanetu [ I like #2 - as in the second coming ].  Anyhow - that stuck.

 

21 = my lucky number forever. I tried to get it on all my sprots jerseys as a kid.

Lyam Draken, basically is is the name of the main character of the novels I wrote back in 2007,08,09.  Lyam came from my use of the name at rennassaince and pirate reenactments, and Draken came from being the Swiss word for dragon.

 

On the PS4 I am RaShkahn, also known as Ra.  This came about way back in 1995 when I was playing text based mmorpg's originally it was meant to be Ra Sherkhan, but due to lack of space programming it was abbreviated to RaShkahn and when I became an admin for one of the games I played it was changed to Ra which everyone thought was appropriate for my title.

 

And before you ask I do have a tattoo of the eye of Ra on my arm as a symbol of seeking wisdom.

I came up with my username sometimes in 2003/2004(hard to remember lol) I was playing Runescape, and I was attempting to make a low level pure ranger. I started off with the name Gelu Ranger. Gelu was the name of a hero from a game called Heroes of Might and Magic 3. he was an elven archer capable of upgrading your archer unit's into sharp shooters, which were AWESOME. Old, old school Runescape had a pretty horrible system for combat training, and it made it difficult keeping low level characters the stats you wanted. I wanted to avoid defense completely. Well I wasn't able to do so, and got like 4 defense levels because I wasn't paying attention while I was training . So I restarted and changed it to Glue Ranger, and had the same thing happen AGAIN hahaha. So I figured I'd give it one more go, and settled on Gleu Ranger. It looked cool to me, and original. Took me a few weeks, but I managed to reach my goal, and just kept the name. As years went on I dropped the "Ranger", and just went by GLeU. however I can't do that on my PSN login .

HMM 2 was the 1st one i played, my friend had it, and i loved it so much. i tryied to order it at a radio shack, and they said they could only get the 3rd one. so i got the 3rd one, and it was even better!

Well, when I googled different languages for dragon, for some reason Draken came up. Apparently my resources were not all that accurate, but I doubt I'll change the name.  (and no I am not Swiss)
