I think it has to do with the 80's punk band X-Ray Spex and the year of my birth (yep... I am old).

Either that or the xrayspecs you could earn from the back of comic books back in the 80's for selling seeds or some ****.

I can't remember why I picked that name as it is my Steam account and I chose that like 12 years ago. I just wanted to simplify and have my Origin account the same. I didn't realize that it would be my in-game name. Now that people call me "Ray" I really can't change it now. (and No, my name is not Ray).

Pretty cliche'd and boring at the same time, though it's always interesting who picks out the reference.

Named after a favorite character from the Steven Erikson novels - Malazan Book of the Fallen

Best epic fantasy out there if that's your buzz.

I was 24 when I first got my PS3 back in the day.

I'm a writer of strong character based dark fantasy & coldsteelblue is the iris colour of my protagonist, decided to use it for gaming due to how unique it is, alas, no major story here.

I think I just made mine up one day.. many, many moons ago when I was playing GemStone.  My first name in GemStone was Feklar, and I kind of wish I stuck with that, but Star Wars buffs had a pretty good understanding of the origin of the name, and I decided to distance myself from it a bit.  So, I chose Gekrakel for my warrior-mage dwarven character in GemStone.  And it stuck.

Gekrakel is apparently German for a scribble or a sketch, but I think that is just a coincidence.  It does make me think I could make up a better history for my name.

We should have had a thread where each person gets to make up the history of the previous person's name.. :: chuckle ::

Studied Deutsch in high school and college.. which is why I'm not completely sure it was coincidental...  Not sure how else I pulled that out of my head.

Fiskrens is Swedish for "leftovers after gutting fish", and I've used that as one of my online id's since ...Internet ;). Used it as nonsense-word in programming, and then it stuck.

I sometimes let it be accompanied with this picture of a Blobfish
the_blobfish_poster-rb7011d5e2a0e4cc584e
but people (on other forums) have found that too revolting, for some reason. I myself think that's demeaning towards the poor Blobfish :D.

Funny I did the same.  Everyone else I know took Spanish because we are in So Cal. :P  I probably should have taken up Spanish because I could have use it everyday.   I don't remember the last time I attempted to use German... except maybe saying du bist ein dummkopf. :P

Funny thing is that my sister took French.  And according to her, the only time she get to use it was when she was Paris... there was a sign pointing to the "Library" and she was able to proudly use her well practiced phrase.... "Where is the Library?" in French to impress the locals. LOL ;)

Yeah, Spanish would have been helpful in Florida too.  Everyone else was taking Spanish or Latin.

I took Japanese because I was the student who helped all the new female Japanese students at my Uni's dorm get acclimated.

(and I might have a thing for Japanese women... maybe....shhhhhhh!)

Me too LC.

I took German in highschool instead of Spanish. Now that I live in Los Angeles, I REALLY could use some Spanish. It is like once every 2-3 years that my low-level knowledge of German pays off.

Wo ist der discotheque?

I am not even sure that is right as I vaguely remember something about words being masculine and feminine with regards to the die/der/das.

Whatever... it was a LONG time ago.

You mostly learn strange dialogue in those classes though.

Hertzog:  Hello.  My name is hertzog.  How are you?

Claudia: I am well.  I like basketball.

Hertzog: I also like basketball.  Do you like my pants?

Claudia: I like pants, but I also like shirts.

Hertzog: Yes.  Shirts are very nice.

Claudia: This is my friend Maxine.

Hertzog: Hello Maxine.  Do you also like shirts or hot dogs?

etc...

I have to admit, I am a little confused by that sentence...  so you haven't spoken german in 20 years?

Yeah, it's been 20 years since I spoke German, but quite a bit of it stuck with me as my 2nd year we were not allowed to speak English in the classroom.  Granted my spelling may be off a bit as I didn't write in German very much.

Thank you.

Now I know what English speaking people think, when they read my posts. ;)

Back to the Topic (and pursuing with my 'school knowledge' of English).

I love MPs with a Coop-Modus.

I played MEMP for a very long time with great pleasure (what a fun).

When I started DAMP it seemed to be quite similar to MEMP.

But it started with a lot of bugs and it has a crude loot and promotion system.

Therefore the ironic undertone.

I like it, but I missed the ultimate kick.

Figure I'd throw this out there, my PSN name is xCanonfodder, because for as long as I was playing online games (and this was back in the days of Day of Defeat being a Half Life mod), I was the derpy guy who couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, and realized it.  So I decided to help out my team by being the guy who ran up to the choke points with a cooked grenade with the intention of throwing it into their nests, and succeeding about 3/4 of the time, clearing out the point so the rest of the team could rack up the kills.  Was proud when I got a K/D ratio that broke even.  My original handle was Cannonfodder, but in the timespan between, it became more popular. . . .

My current handle is a bit more. . . . . adult.  Had a friend who was into a MMO (Rift), and was convincing me to give it a go.  His main was a rogue with the name Ieatpaintchips, mostly to get a laugh outta people as he was murdering them.  So I decided to roll out a decoy character, to distract them while he did his stabby thing.  It was a female elf cleric by the name of Leadpaintchips. . . .

When was 4 or 5, my family and I were on vacation and staying with some friends who lived in a house quite a ways up a canyon. Their property was up against one of the canyon walls, and they had a large cherry orchard and some rabbit pens. My sister wanted to go look at the rabbits, and I wanted some cherries, so we went out into the yard without telling my parents where we were going.

After I had eaten my fill, we went looking for the animal pens with all the cute little bunnies. We found some empty cages, and were trying to figure out why there were no rabbits in them, when I heard a sound. I turned around, and there was this huge rattlesnake less than 10 feet (that's 3.05 meters for all you non-americans) away from us. We ran all the way back to the house, screaming our heads off the whole way. My dad and brother went out and chopped the snake up into pieces with some spades, buried the head, put all the pieces in a bucket, and my brother kept the rattle as a prize. My mom chastised my sister and me, saying that we knew not to go out on our own because of the rattlesnakes that live in the rocks by the canyon walls.

A while later, I was out on the porch drawing in a coloring book, when my curiosity got the better of me. I walked over to the bucket my dad left on the edge of the patio (WTF dad!), and inside I find a dismembered zombie-snake writhing around like it was trying to get out and exact revenge on the little kid who is responsible for it's being chopped apart by gardening tools. I spent the next 15 minutes or so banging on the locked door into the house and bawling my eyes out. Turns out that my father had left to go somewhere (and took my siblings with him) right after my mom had gotten into the shower (WTF again, dad!)

That story has absolutely nothing to do with me being called snakebite. One day, when I was 14, one of my brother's friends randomly started calling me Snakebite. The end.
