Bioware has gotten to formulaic with the relationships always culminating 5 minutes before starting the final quest arc.

It's silly that things don't get serious way sooner and intimate somewhere around the halfway point in the story.

Then the back end of the game would have honest relationship maintenance and the things that come after.

Agreed, SD. I've always thought this was silly. The romance arcs are cool side content for character development; but the unvarying formula and structure is pretty lame.

I always pretended they were ****** like bunnies off camera, but what we see is them in a vulnerable moment. Kind of like in books and tv shows they don't show the characters who are together always ****** just sometimes important bits for the story or really intense moments.

It could be like Origins where you can bed anybody the first night they're in camp by just spamming them with gifts.

but I suspect not a lot of people would enjoy "relationship maintenance" stuff in a video game, regardless of when the actual sex scene takes place.

You want to move at James Bond levels? Note: Not all clips involve Bond's romantic travails...

Ok I've changed my mind.

Just put brothels in and end these threads forever.

For the love of the Biotic God. Please!

Origins did it pretty well by having the sex midway through the game followed by conflict. Instead of waiting the entire game only to bang her LI right before the final mission, my Tabris had sex with him through most of the game, then forced him to bang someone else before the final mission. Sorry, Alistair! :(

I very much liked how Dragon Age Inquisition changed things up a bit when it comes to romances. My hope is that the romances in MEA are as varied as possible and are unique rather than them simply following the same set path with just a few variations along the way.

Just say "We'll bang, okay?"

Everybody wins.

I agree. I think it's silly that they supposedly wait to have sex for that long, it's not that realistic imo. Well maybe for some but if you consider what age group they are, then you wouldn't exactly think of them as being in celibacy.

Personally, I'd like it to vary depending on the person you're romancing. Some people are quicker to get into bed than others, and the in game relationships should reflect that. We could have everything from a no-strings-attached one night stand the day you meet, to one where you only get to shag well into the third game of the trilogy despite having started the romance right at the beginning of the first.

In ME3 Kaidan makes a comment to Shepard that he didn't wake him that morning. Shep replies that he didn't want to disturb him and Kaidan's like, "Next time, wake me" ;)

Also Steve hints that they're going to be doing it later after you hook up at the club.

These were both romances that can only start in ME3. I'm not sure about the other romances.

Anyway it was my impression that they were doing it all the way from the Citadel Coup to Chronos. It just wasn't on camera (for all LIs). I don't mind having the sex scene at the end. I quite like the idea of a night of passion before "The Big Mission".

As devs have said that choreographing intimate scenes is a nightmare, I say have one big smooch when the romance begins followed by a tasteful love scene somewhere near the end of the game.

What matters more to me is that the game recognises you are in a relationship periodically throughout the game. Little things like your LI being overly concerned when you come back up from the ocean in Leviathan go a long way with me.

Not a fan of the repeatable "press button to have sex" mechanic. I think repeatable cut scenes are lame but I suppose I don't care if they're included as I just won't use them. Also the fade-to-black "dates" from DAI were the worst.

Inquisitor:  I just wanted to spend some time with you.

LI:             I'd love to.

[fade to black]

[return to scene]

Inquisitor:   I've never had so much fun in my life!!

LI:               Me neither!! Oh Boo, how I love thee!

Okay so I'm making the dialogue up you get the idea.

Exactly. I heard a lot of people complain that there was no sex scene for Josephine, but that's apparently just not the type of woman she is. Not every relationship should end in a sex scene or implied sex.

Another thing I hope MEA continues is not having characters fall in love with you if you talk to them enough. I never romanced anyone in DAI, but I appreciated that nobody tried to force my character into one unless I specifically wanted it.

Yeah,I would also love to see the LI always or almost always calling the PC by something as love/honey/sweetie or any other romantic word instead of "Ryder".

Who the hell calls his or her boyfriend/girlfriend by their surname?

They could go the Fallout 4 route and record a lot of potential first names...

Variety is good.

Though we have few enough conversations with out companions that even at the end of the game doesn't really seem like they're taking it excessively slow to me.

Maybe they could have an LI who'd rather wait until after the main plot is resolved to get into bed, too?

I agree that the positioning of the sex scene should depend on who you choose to romance.  I also think the opportunities to start relationships and end relationships should vary in such a way that there are some you can start at the beginning and end by mid game (or reaffirm and continue them) and others you can start mid game.  I really thought it was a "missed" topic opportunity that we couldn't start a new 1st time relationship with, say, Garrus after Thane's death (with the love developing as perhaps Garrus consoled Shepard over the loss).  There is really a lot of relationship depth that could be added without adding more sex scenes.  Say, for instance, if in a romance with an NPC, the player could even have the option to initiate a quick goodbye hug or kiss just after each in private conversation with that NPC (which is something that many couples just do as a matter of course... even after 40 or so many, many years of marriage.  :) There is really a lot of depth that could be explored in this area... and there are many ways to express affection and even to hint at sex scenes without actually having sex scenes.

Yes please, I want things to get going faster so by the time the end quest comes your relationship has already been blossiming.
