It looks like Mirror's Edge is getting a tv show adaptation, and I couldn't be more excited.

I've seen countless "Mass Effect movie" threads and I don't think movies would do the series justice, whereas a tv series could take a lot of time with the lore, recruiting and loyalty missions from ME2, and explore different choices and scenarios.

I would 100% be on board with a tv series, how about you?

I'm fine with a Mass Effect TV series.

Television production has improved drastically over the past 10 years alone and offers plenty of flexibility to tell more stories and delve in to the lore and history better than a movie could.

Also allows for more characters to get screen time and more opportunities for smaller stories to be told which would normally get cut in a movie.

I would prefer a tv show, there is too much to the ME universe for a movie to give it justice.  A tv show could explore the lore and universe and even expand on it in a way the games haven't done so yet.

Reapers entering the atmosphere. Husk looking more like those Silent Hill monsters. Real omni-tools.

There's so much open-ended plot in the trilogy and so many characters they could expand. There's a lot more story to be told than just Shepard's and yet they choose to reboot to another galaxy... :(

Oh well, l'm happy with a marathon of Babylon 5 > Firefly > Battlestar Galactica > The Expanse....

In a modern video game, players can loose themselves for hundreds of hours. They get to know the world in detail, spend a lot of time with NPC's and decide how the story plays out. To make a movie or tv show about it, is really hard. You probably end up choosing a chapter from the franchise that isn't already covered in a game. But even then: with too much lore and references, you scare away non-gamers. Keep it too simple, you won't please the fans.

As long as it didn't cover the events of the trilogy I'd be all for it

This could be interesting.... just small Easter Eggs to give the gamers little "squees" but still covering the Universe of the series? I'm game for that.

It wouldn't work as a live action TV series because the amount of cgi required would make the budget unworkable unless it was a human centric original story set on a human colony or ship without much aliens, alien worlds, action or space travel which wouldn't appeal to me at all.

I'd quite happily s***can me2 and 3 and have a movie trilogy which works as a film series.

cgi isn't as expensive and time consuming as it once was, lots of tv shows use it all the time. You could make it about the First Contact War.

I wouldn't mind a series, but it shouldn't be about Shepard (at least Shepard shouldn't be in it) since we all have different Shepards.

Idk about live action tho, it might seem a bit cheesy. An animation could work well. But not an anime, unless its style is a mix of asian and american cartoons (like The Legend of Korra and the Last Airbender). Although I did enjoy Paragon Lost, it was only because of the story, not the art style or character designs.

Not too sure about this.  For every Game of Thrones, there's a Legend of the Seeker or Shannara Chronicles.  No way to predict which way a Mass Effect series would go.

And I say this despite my signature (still waiting on that studio announcement, Harriet! Crack that whip!)

Break the lore or make it an AU with Humans arriving much earlier in the TL and make it about the Rachni wars/Krogan rebellions. Seasons 1-2 are covered if you do that. Plenty of conflict, lots of world building,  players haven't experienced that era. Worst case and most likely scenario though is you just end up with a traditional TV sci-fi with MASS EFFECT slapped onto the intro. Which then makes every game that follows it a game about "That" TV show.

I love the second video because of the outro.

"The war for earth begins. Decide how it ends...."

I wish I could go back and try to warn everyone it ends with Shepard committing suicide no matter what you decide, they wouldn't believe me for one second.

First Contact War could be a great movie and a good way to introduce people in Mass Effect.

TV series would be great for the trilogy. The problem is Shepard: race, sex, class, paragon or renegade... However, I would be happy if they made two Shepards, brother and sister, one paragon, the other renegade, one the main character of ME1, the other the main commander in ME2 (until the Lazarus Project concludes in the middle of the recruitment of the Suicide Mission...), I digress, sorry XDDD

I wonder if it's technically viable. And by technically I mean financially.

Really? I always found the FCW to be a very minor event. You can do a movie about it, obviously, just as you can do a film about anything really, but I don't think it's a good sample of what Mass Effect is about.

Couldn't agree more, however, I see a problem here: The established time period during which humans had contact with Aliens is rather short,

and because obviously humans are going to be central in this hypothetical show it has to concentrate on this short period, which is unfortunately dominated by the events of the game mostly.

I mean, how long can you stretch the first contact war? (if there's one thing TV shows are good at, it's stretching, but still...)

On the other hand, I guess if you aim after The Ending you have a whole set of new problems, but a relatively clear field to work with otherwise.

A short series or a movie about the discovery on mars followed by the FCW could work I think.

But like you I rather doubt that it is financially viable enough to satisfy Hollywood's appetite...

If ME gets an adaptation, regardless if it's a TV Series or films, I can't see it not being an adaptation of the trilogy. That's what Mass Effect is.

The fact that Mass Effect got it's own ride proves that it can have a future outside of gaming. And it definitely should be the beloved trilogy for so many reasons, although AU could be cool.

I think it would be hard to make CGI aliens realistic if it does goes live action... that cost a ton.

Animation is the best route, you could bring back a lot of familiar VAs to reprise their roles. I wouldn't mind ME Foundation and Homeworlds to get an adaptation, also some of the in-game stories; Aria and Patriarch, Wrex and Saren, Jon Grissom, Ashley's family after Shanxi, Joker's sister etc.

They don't really need to retell the game. Anyone can play it, but creating an expanded universe around that game. It would be fun to write.

I can see the logic, but that will probably make me ignore that adaptation.

I don't want to be told that Shepard was the generic Paragon soldier war hero, when most likely I never even played that combination.

Or to suffer through what I know is coming at the end...

If there is a Mass Effect TV series, then it should stay far away from the original trilogy. Make it a prequel that tells the story of humanity discovering mass effect technology and integrating into the galactic community.

Or a sequel, I wouldn't mind either way.

It would take a studio/network with tons of cash to throw at it, and it would take a lot of talented people to make it work for general audiences so I would be apprehensive until I knew the network and creative team behind a Mass Effect TV show. HBO or Netflix would be my top choices for networks since they're willing to throw huge sums as grand-scale series. Maybe Alex Garland and his usual team of collaborators could do something great with Mass Effect? Or better yet, Alex Garland and Shane Black both being showrunners.
