lol it's touching how you express your love for the game.

I'm playing DA:O and loving it. Oblivion was my previous top game, I have 500 hours on it and had barely played the main quest yet and didn't even touch the DLCs. TES lore is awesome and I can play Oblivion for hours and not get tired... but it annoys me how much the game is bugged, how I have to kill and reload it every 3 doors I open, how it starts CTDing for no reason and I waste 3 full days trying to make it work again.

DA:O plot is original and very creative and full or surprises and hard choices, the battle system is by far the best I've seen... and I can just load the game and start playing! No Wrye Bash, no MOM, no BOSS, and I can safely go anywhere I want without closing and loading the game again!!

It's definetly waaaaay more original than DAO and DAI (typical world-saving Mary Sue story (but at least Origins had lotsa RP options)). Having a human-only character made possible a much more detailed story (I sometimes think the class should have been fixed too: Mage, for story reasons). The Friendship/Rivalry system is IMO the best thing of this game, plain approval systems are way too simple and boring. Companions and LIs are also the very best in any DA game IMO, they really feel as other people with their own opinions/agendas. And Hawke really feels like just another fleshed out character, unlike the Warden/Inki-winki.

I <3 Dragon Age 2

It's so unfair for the best game to get beat up on the streets.

I think many other games get more beaten up than DA2. DA2 is just sitting a corner somewhere, watching another game get killed by the fans, so in all honesty, it's sort of okay in all honesty.

DA2 was the first BW game I played. I loved it at the time because I had never played any game with such stunning cinematics, superb voice acting, amazingly-well written dialog, the possibility of creating your PC's appearance, complex plot, difficult decision making, characters with such well-established personalities and captivating romance.

If it wasn't for the ending, the sudden 3-year gaps which harmed the continuity of romances or the fact that Hawke is a sort of handyman and never leaves Kirkwall, the game would be perfect.

DA2 gets a bad rep, but considering that it had a development cycle of a year-and-a-half, when the "minimum" development time is usually two years for any major game of similar scope...

- It has a fully-voiced protagonist, which can be male or female, with any one of three different personality types (that's a lot of lines)

- The protagonist can be one of three different classes, which in turn determines who one of your companions will be and determines more dialogue

- Each class has three possible specializations, so different attack animations, effects, numbers, and algorithms need to be there

- Has to balance innumerable variables (i.e. plot decisions) from a previous game, thus providing continuity

- Has a dual-balanced morality system that determines possible dialogue with companions/NPC's on multiple levels (that's a whole lot more lines)

- I could go on...

Sure, the re-use of environments isn't it's strong point, but when you realize the context, it's a lot more understandable.  Especially when you find out that Kirkwall is essentially built over a Tevinter blood-magic nexus/slave prison, and was designed to be drab and confusing so as to discourage revolt.

And anyone can make a "Good/Evil" morality system, and there's nothing wrong with that, it's a classic.  But turning that expectation on it's head by adding a THIRD (snarky) while allowing for overall tone of voice to reflect whichever personality your character takes requires commitment and skill.

Not only that, but the Friendship/Rivalry system requires a lot more finesse than simply "Don't steal that person's money!" or "Give me his money and then I'll kill you!"

Point being, this game was made on the equivalent of a shoe-string budget with practically no time to do it, but they managed to create ALL OF THIS AND MORE.

It really puts it in perspective.

The blue is not 'good", the red is not "bad", rather patient–impatient, gentle–rough. In some places the red a good response.

In the DA2 no "bad" or "good"... Hawke is not Shepard from ME3...

The frienship–rivalry system are good idea, but sadly, it bleeding from many wounds in this form. (But I like.)

I gushed a little about this game in another thread. Perhaps I should have posted it here originally.

I suppose I was fortunate that I went into most of this series (and Mass Effect) blind -- which is what I prefer -- and there was very little waiting on my part to play each installment. So, my feelings about any of them are already different from the start. Going into DA2 without really knowing the situation meant 1) My opinion would be free of outside influences, 2) I didn’t have a full understanding of why things were the way they were. That being said: I really enjoyed it on my first run. At first the more “restricting” setting can be disappointing, but getting absorbed into the story and its characters is where I found the heart of the game. I love the layers of each “act” and how they relate to each other. If DA2 had been given the time it deserved to develop it truly could’ve been something very special and unique to the series or even just RPGs in general. Regardless, I still love playing it.

It doesn’t hurt that I find DA2 to be the easiest of the 3 to get into and play. And it has Hawke. They might be my favorite PC of the series because they can feel more like a real individual. The Warden’s absent voice didn’t bother me, but I imagine if they did have a voice they’d be similar to the Inquisitor, who can feel plain at times -- even if I favor the joke options. That they put in the effort to have three personalities for Hawke… it’s just awesome.

The biggest disappointment that I had for DA2 was the lack of companion dialogue. Coming from Origins when it was possible to spend hours just chatting up your camp-mates, DA2 felt very stripped down. But, when compared to ME where dialogue is much the same, it’s not so bad. I’m not a fan of Tallis, though, so playing that DLC can be… trying at times. Definitely adore Legacy.

If it was the best game ever made then I could stay interested in it. As it now stands I'm sorry I wasted my money.

When I finish my current game of DA:I I'll try again.
