No, I don't want that evil communist Muslim anywhere near Andromeda. He needs to show the birth certificate, and then go back to Africa where he was born.
You crack me up so much

It's a very common mistake. The character is called "Ellie" and Ellen Page was her model without a doubt. However, the voice actress was Ashley Johnson.
Older Ellie model was modeled after Ellen Page, but that's the past. Page complained about it before game's release:
"I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called Beyond Two Souls, so it was not appreciated," she said in post about the Naughty Dog title.
so Naughty Dog based their new Ellie's model on her VO, Ashley Johnson, which, in my opinion, looks way better than older "Ellen Page" version (that eyes!).

I wouldn't mind siblings and parents, but preferably no spouses/children. It's one thing to start off with parents/siblings baggage, I think that can be used as an interesting base to start on while allowing the player to move forward with their own choices on who their character is. But spouses/children (even absent ones) have an entirely different kind of baggage that either forces you to address it or forces you to willfully ignore it, neither of which I particularly enjoy (looking at you Fallout 4).

Oh, the feels when we have to turn him to green dust with polonium rounds (I loved those), kill him to liberate him from the Khet <plot device>, or whatever.
I really doubt the sibling connection, but I do think something like this is going to happen with the "important non-protagonist N7". He's gotta be crucial to launching the plot, or driving the plot, the way they've talked about him. Oh, well. Different thread.

What do you think about having a family member or reference to it? You could have cousin and parents in DAO, you have a family in DA2, you have a mother as an Earthling in ME series. You want dialogues to talk about your family like whether you're an orphan, self-made orphan, family, or something like that in DAI? I actually like Carver a lot, he's like an annoying little brother I have, but I could see it limit a lot of storytelling in a way, but in general, Shepard is a lot more defined than a typical RPG protagonist.
I think i could deal if it was brother/sister combo and both were available to team-up with. Even just a couple other relatives, as long as both paragon/renegade personalities were available to group with.

So the Ohana reference is a Disney thing?
Sad...I was hoping BattleBloodMage was Hawaiian. Hawaii is my favorite place on the planet,
Ohana is hawaiian though

That's just what he wants you to think. Where's the birth certificate to prove it? (PROTIP: it's in the same vault as his ISIS fund, and it says Kenya)

Just like real life, family members are better heard from―or about, in this case―than seen. I have no problem with establishing background through dialogue, though. I welcome it.
As for the title, I thought this thread was about Oriana Lawson, and the OP had misremembered her name.
Depends on the family and how far you go. I definitely feel better and have a good time with my siblings around, but don't feel my parents' absence as much, cause, you know, they fulfill different roles.

I'd rather have as much as possible for headcanon, but I should admit that I like the way they've handled DA2 and DAI\Human. The writing was very headcanon-friendly, and player could RP anything from a daddy's girl\boy to a black sheep\outcast. Neither of two games forces any kind of relations on player, which was good. As funny as it sounds - Malcolm Hawke is one of the best written characters in DA2, and I don't mind anything like that.
Just no 'Thessia Drama' again, please! Let the player decide which emotion suits them best.
