Clearly you should buy this game and all the DLC so you can understand what the hell people are arguing about in this thread.

To be fair most of what we are arguing about happens in Origins...

Hope you enjoy it, I bought it because I Loved DAO and hoped to see cameo's from characters I already knew. The game does have flaws but don't they all, I enjoyed it regardless.

True because most of the times i have no idea what you guys/girls are talking about or it's about DA 2.

My reasons for buying it were the following - firstly, it is a BioWare game, and despite previous disappointments I never quite gave up the hope that they could deliver something great again. Secondly there were trailers and assurances that this was a game made by PC gamers for PC gamers.
One of those came partially true. You will get some pretty good production value - the landscapes are breathtaking, atmospheric and very diverse, and huge. You will get a set of interesting and equally diverse companions and a few great story moments.
On the downside, it has some of the most soul crushing, mind numbing side content known to man, but that is almost entirely skippable. When you start playing, always remember one thing: feel free to get out of the Hinterlands at your earliest convenience.
That said, enjoy the game! Despite its flaws, I feel that I certainly got my money's worth out of it.

If you haven't gotten it already and play on PC, you can try a 6 hour demo of it from Origins. (I think that offer is still open). It will give you a better feel how the game is played than any words and will give you a slight taste of the story. Then you can see if you want to jump on the game full prize, wait for a sale or just skip the game completely.

Or
Free Games- Demos and Betas- Inquisiton Trial in the Origin client.

As for my opinion, I liked the game. I think it plays nicely, the story is decent and the characters are fun. I really think you should at least try out the demo and see if the game intrigues you.

Why not get it? If you have the money and are looking for a new rpg to play... there is no reason not to get it. I loved the games and have played it at least 10 times but unless you only play games to you deem to be 100% perfect, than go for it.
If you only play games that meet whatever your personal preferences are for perfect, then I am not sure if you should buy/play DA:I

If you are a fan of the Mass effect series(as i presume given the icons under your avatar)then i will recommend to focus more on the upcoming MAA rather than the Inquisition which had basic problems with the PC port and whom side quests were not very deep.
To be fair though most RPGs seem to have not very deep side quests.

No, only some Wardens who believed in Sophia supported her. But the Wardens at Weisshaupt officially denounced her. I would even write that she was unauthorized, but some people around here have difficulty grasping that concept.
You seem to be obsessed with the concept of "authorization."

And no, that wasn't the reason why there were so "few" Wardens in DA:O. Maric had allowed them back in to Ferelden many years before DA:O began. "Invasion" isn't a stretch, it's outright false. The one leading the coup was a Ferelden, and related to the king she was trying to overthrow.
WRONG! "The Wardens" didn't do diddly-squat. It was Sophia Dryden and those who followed her who tried. The Grey Wardens officially denounced her and refused to support her.
But you know who did support her? The Cousland family, that is until King Arland carved most of them up like Feastday hams. So why can't we throw that in Teagan's ugly and unrecognizable face? Why can't we point out that Couslands might now rule Ferelden as King and Queen? Huh?
That's not called splitting hairs, that called being factually correct.
I swear, you people have no clue when it comes to canon lore. You are WRONG on so many things.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1...

I suggest aroma therapy and bubble baths. Also take a sabbatical from the all caps key.

So basically you dislike the game because you don't believe a character should be allowed to dislike the wonderful Gray Wardens, or twist the truth about them slightly in order to support his point.
I dislike the DLC for many reasons, and the ones I posted here are that Teagan foolishly went out of character and we were not given the chance to respond to his foolishness.

Since there isn't enough negativity in this thread I decided to say after one or two playthroughs I found it to be repetitive. I usually like to make many different heroes but have only gotten through with one in DAI. The first playthrough was good though.

go ahead and buy it! ![]()
At the time the game was released I read a lot of negative reviews, so I decided to wait (there were so many other games to play anyways).
I finally bought it a year later and I've been completely hooked since then
(of course DAI has plenty of problems, including poor side quests or the lack of freedom of choice and the consequences of those choices)
but I still had plenty of fun playing it, I've even done a second play just because I wanted to - and I almost never ever do that
I think I enjoyed it more than DA2.

The DLCs are massive disappointments as well. They're short for the enormous and unfair price they'll charge you.
To sum up why DAI is a disappointment
>short main quest
>fetch quests beyond count
>no side quests like you'd expect in DAO or 2, ie with cinematic conversations that immerse you in that moment
>poor villian and poor ending boss fight
>static open world
>mmo style leveling, exploration, questing
>cast of characters are weak imo
>lots of bad writing, from side quests, to cheesy forced dialogue
>sjw aspects
>utterly absent soundtrack when in game
There's probably more I can come up with.

I enjoy it; have 1000+ hrs over three campaigns and a lot of CC practice. Recommended for mature players.
This game is not mature.

You'll get your money's worth but the game is not quality. It's basically an mmo timesink. A huge step down from previous titles, hell I think I might prefer da2.

* The fastest time I have heard is 17 hrs in a speed run; the length of some other entire games.
* Not that many actual fetch quests; count them.
* Thankfully fewer cut-scenes; not required when returning pantaloons (eg; DA2) or gall (eg; DAO).
* No Open World; areas designed to set the mood for a specific area.
* MMO like gameplay; like SWTOR w/o all the other Players that look like you and your Companions.
* Cassandra, Dorian, Solas, and esp Cole are among the more vibrant NPC's seen in a Bioware game, IMO.
* Award winning writing from main to side content, banter, and dialogues. Also the equivalent of ten novels.
* Music score is mesmerizing from launch menu to close.
Game is recommended for mature Players; no such critter as a mature game.

>speed run, people can finish dark souls within an hour
>actually a lot of fetch quests. More than 3/4 of the side content is fetch quests
>cutscenes offer immersion, what DAI offers is an mmo that is cold and emtionless
>mmo gameplay, game mechanics, some people hate mmo's and an action rpg like DAI should have been more of an rpg than an mmo
>all boring and drab. "Muh daddy doesn't accept me" great inclusion of sjw pandering
>don't seem to remember DAI winning anything on the writing front. And if they did it's because 2014 was a dull year.
>good for you, I never hear it in game when I'm "exploring"

*sigh* another pointless internet debate.
OP, get the game at bargain price - even if you end up being disappointed it'll still be cheaper than one (1) bad movie night out - which I'm sure you've had to endure for the sake of the bf/gf. Then you can make up your own mind about it.

OP, I had a blast playing DAI and the dlcs. You can get the GOTY edition at a cheap price and decide for yourself.
