I'm just curious if Bioware gave an explanation as to why ME2 lacked a same sex romance option.  The game is fine without it I was just merely curious if they had planned on implementing one or not.

I haven't played through ME2 much yet (thanks RROD) but I read that Tali is a romance option...how exactly is that possible given her situation.

Play it find out brah!

And I really didn't see a chance for same-sex romance unless you're talking Morinth, who I haven't recruited yet(only beat the game once). It seemed awkward for any of the other characters. Maybe it's just me.

It's built into the romance, but you have to commit to the romance before you can push that aspect forward. and "see" things for yourself. Basically, it's a small bonus for choosing her as your romance

As for same sex, idk. The only one that would make sense character wise to me is Jack. The other ones, they seem very straight in character, of course, it could have been written in pretty easily. So who knows. My guess is EA threw the hammer down on them..

Tali felt Liara-easy in ME2, did anyone else get that vibe? Right after her loyalty quest she was ready to roll, literally.

Bioware went with fan love, but didn't go the whole way in some more preferable ways, and went too far in others.

Example in not going far enough: having Jacob and Jack as available characters for same sex romance (no, Kelly doesn't count, and according to devs Liara doesn't *wtf*). I'm very disappointed in Bioware for this really, especially considering what they were going to do in ME1, yet also dropped. Ok, not just disappointed, but a little angry.

Going too far: Tali is fine imo. It was 'fanfic-y', yet also cute and sweet. However, I don't understand the devs creating Thane to be the humanoid-ish love interest for femShep, then putting Garrus in as well (a romance that mostly amounted to comic relief...). If you're going to do the Thane thing (which is 'ok'), don't toss in Garrus too Bioware.

It seems to be -

For maleShep: Miranda, Jack, Tali, and kind of Kelly.
It should have been (imo): Miranda, Jack, Tali, Jacob

For femShep: Jacob, Thane, Garrus, and kind of Kelly.
It should have been: Jacob, Thane, Jack

Yes, femsheps do lose out in terms of number of LIs, but I think this is ok considering how the majority of players will still be playing maleShep (as good as Jennifer Hale is).

Kelly should have only amounted to harmless flirting.

I know some incredibly straight-acting athletes that would kill me if I ever made it that their team found out they were gay. It's quite silly to me, but I can also imagine the concern they have for their social standing.

And if this came down to an 'EA' decision, ohh man. I already feel the rage building up... (just noticed there isn't a real angry looking emoticon on here - way to try to redirect our thoughts Bioware).

The reason I say it looks EA-ish, is because Bioware was practically telegraphing it. They had it mentioned how they cut it in ME1 due to time constraints, added a peripheral gay (soldier-ish)character in ME: Ascension (novel) to establish that it certainly does happen. They do it in Dragon Age too, and then....nope. denied. To me, that screams decision from above.

Yeah but seeing as she already knew you and it is kinda said she was in love with you back in ME1.  She just never did anything about it seeing as she is stuck in her suit and was going back to the fleet.

Yeah Tali's is one one hand very Mary Sue -ish, but on the other hand very believable.

I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest. EA always ranges from horrible, to having a sort of sterile (as in not passionate) acceptability. For much of ME2 I'm accepting how things are, but if this is what happened... eff EA.

If this indeed was a decision from up above EA should start to realize that it needs to let is developers do WTF they want otherwise why invest in them? games put out as "EA" games, blow so many goats its not even funny, you'd think they would learn. But seriously the lack of a same sex romance is disappointing and made me angry. Bioware if your listening, DLC.... all i gotta say, my femshep is just dying to get into Miranda's pants, and oh yes i'd pay for that DLC

As money-taking as that idea is, I'd so go for paying over $30 for this. After seeing Jacob shirtless, man, my Shep will only go for him.

As a sidenote, I just met Kaiden again and hes even more whiny as before. I just wanted to tell him to suck it up and take it! (hahaha). I was begging out loud to my roommate that he better not be wearing pink armor like in the into, he better not... :P

My FemShep looks like Kelly because she can't have Kelly.

If Bioware could somehow add post-game DLC which brings in these romance options (ALONG WITH other content and missions), it would be amazing.

But I'm bracing myself for lackluster N7 mission DLC (not that they were bad in main game, but I don't wanna pay for that) or Zaeed 'exciting but ultimately makes me feel like I didn't do much or learn anything' missions.

ya so far the DLC from DA:O seems to be going in the right direction. But i would seriously pay alot extra if i could romance the ladies with my lady... just feels wrong to be cut out. Fighting to save the universe from extinction i REALLY don't think sexing up Miranda with my femshep is too much ask on the grand scheme of things...

This topic...is depressing.

I remember how someone once advertised that there would be a lot more LI options, and this immediately after saying that ME1 had m/f, f/m, and f/femalien.  The implication to *me* was that there would be m/m, not to mention more than 3 options.  I also remember David Gaider saying that he had to plead for same-sex romance in DA:O.  Not to mention that apparently one French player found unused maleShep/Thane romance VA work...

Ugh. I thought Bioware was just being lame trying to appeal to the shooter crowd, but if this really is a case of executive meddling, then that puts any future same-sex romance into question.  EA, DIAF.  Please.  :crying:

First maleShep/Kaiden, NOW maleShep/Thane??? WHAT??? I'll need confirmation of this, but I'm getting more upset by the minute.

somehow...im thinking most of you are jumping to conclusions without have pure facts and that some developers are now rolling on the floor laughing about it.

I hope you're right, actually.  :/  If some dev were to comment here with a promise that this wasn't executive meddling, and simply a one-time, "same-sex romance wasn't as asked for as much as Garrus and Tali LOVE" deal... I would be overjoyed.  Of course devs seem to avoid these topics, so... sigh.  :(

I was kinda annoyed when i found out, after recruiting, helping, flirting and doing all kinds of **** for Jack, that my femshep couldnt romance her. Then i think "oh well, good things there's Samara" BAM! NO! Asari woman no want relationships no more!

Damn you Bioware! Atleast i still has Tali on my male shep, she really suprised this time around, didnt care about her in the first game :)

I agree it's speculation, but still, that's what it seems like to me.  I would actually be happier if I was proven wrong, as somebody else said.  It would make the possibility more likely in ME3.
