So, playing on Xbox One and I’ve somehow encountered a strange bug that, while not game-breaking, is… strange. And since I couldn’t find anything online from anyone I figured I’d be the first?
The strange thing is this: something post-Skyhold reset my progress.
Landmarks, rifts, camps, loot, codex finds, bottles, shards* and even torches/barricades are “undiscovered.” On both complete and incomplete areas. My journal, codex and the actual maps remember* what I’ve completed and remain clear, but the physicality of it is lost. I fast travel to claimed camps only to arrive at an empty spot I have to reclaim (and sometimes the game takes longer than usual to load). Pass by landmarks I’ve already staked, and have to re-stake them. Run into open rifts I’ve sealed. Loot is unlooted. Red lyrium shards are not destroyed, etc… None of this constantly resets, thank the Maker.
Quests* are not affected. Anything that was completed stays completed and do not reappear in the journal or anything like that. Astrariums seem to stay clear. Not sure about logging/quarry claims.
*Shards have turned into a mess and are by far the most annoying part. Those I’ve already collected have been reset and all the doors I’ve opened – including the temple entrance – demand shards. NEW shards. I had collected all shards in the Hinterlands, and yet the Oculara act as if I haven’t. I highlight shards, pick them up, and then they’re added to my count as if new. Ugh. Enemies do not respawn inside chambers and the rewards are gained again, which means I’m getting additional resistance (so it seems) and regaining all loot.
As far as I can tell all this happened at some point after Skyhold. I recently upgraded to Xbox One and I’ve been playing a character that has been settled into Skyhold for a while; leveled somewhere in the late teens, completed Wicked Eyes along with most companion quests, some side quests, slew some dragons… I think I was about the do The Abyss. At this point everything was normal.
I took a break and decided to transfer a character from 360 out of impatience to play Trespasser (downloaded that a few days before the transfer, but I doubt that’s the issue?) So it was only when I returned to my non-transfer did I begin to notice things were reset. Thought it was just the game being goofy, but no. I brought another (non-transfer) character I was playing through to Skyhold and eventually noticed the same issue after progressing further. I still have a couple of other characters in Haven who don’t have this problem. None of them are transfers.
Fortunately, I have old saves from before Skyhold for both Inquisitors, so I loaded them and found that things were how I left them. As in not missing. I even have a save with my second Inquisitor some time before Wicked Eyes (no Abyss yet) and found that things were also in order. So it might be something in the quest chain? Or side/companion quests I did? I haven't yet brought anyone else up to Skyhold and then complete any quests to further test this “Skyhold/Quest Reset” theory. I’m wondering if the transfer (or dlc) is somehow causing the problem? Because none of this was happening before that.
The only positive to this is that I’m gaining additional influence, xp and loot. I even gain +1 power for reestablishing camps. Even so, I’d rather the game not forget I’m playing it. I’d also rather not run into the same problem in all of my following playthroughs.
Is anyone else having this… whatever this is happen?
That's Rather Uncalled For (found a bug?)
