NOTICE

Ever since i brought this problem to light i been messing round trying to find a solution, i found a huge gap that stops the radar beeping for ages. I played the whole game through almost radar beep free, minus a few occasions, but the most part i had a very good run.

Its was really simple i made myself a charcter and the radar kept beeping, but due to the fact i hated that class i made a second character aka a second profile for my adventure, I found when you make a second character and play it radar beep a whole lot less though the game. Now i not sure if its just my come, loads of ranodm dumb luck on my part or something else but it worked for me. SO i tested this solution futher and found anytime you make an odd number character (like your first character or your third or fifth so on) the radar beep like it normally does, but making an even numbered character (like 2nd or fourth) the radar doesnt beep no where near as much.

My conclusion is this making an even numbered character and combining it with other anti radar beeping trick = a very good run of the game with hardly any beeping radar.

I don't know if this was part of the issue, but . . .

I installed a lot of Windows updates (I am running XP Professional SP3) and the beeping seemed to be minimized.

Hmmm... what I see in common on the people who pasted their ME config files is that all have Athlon X2 processors, Nforce Chipsets and Nvidia 8xxx/9xxx GT/GTS (these two are the same family of GPUs, aren't they?).

Dunno if it has anything to do with it, but it's a hell of a coincidence.

Yes, it is a hell of a coincidence. I still think its an Athlon X2 processor, issue. Although, it could be a graphics card issue.I know in ME1 i couldn't play it, then i rolled my graphics card driver back one. It ran like a champ, on full high settings. It is a hassle to change graphic card drivers for me. So that is one thing i haven't tried.

Chalk me up as another one with this problem. Athlon X2 3800+ and an nVidia 8600 GT. This has *got* to have something to do with it.

rebooting seems to help for a couple of hours.

It's not the first time that Nforce chipsets have had adverse effects on gaming experiences. Although the ones I know of were sound and network related.

I see. If it helps: I am using default key mapping. I have an athlon x2 6000+ | a 9800gtx+ | and an asus m2n-sli deluxe mobo. Good Luck guys.

I had been playing since launch with no problems. But the other day I had to reinstall Windows because of some other issues. I just loaded up ME2 again and started getting this radar issue, gameplay was also a bit laggy.

I saw the mention that we all seem to be using AMD Athlon 64s and remembered a fix I used for a previous game that I hadn't reinstalled when I reloaded Windows. AMD released a small patch they call the AMD Dual Core Optimizer, after I installed that the radar bug went away and performace went back to what it had been before I had to reinstall. So if you're using a dual core AMD chip, you might want to give this a try.

You can get it here.

Docktor in da house! Your suggested fix worked for me! I started up ME2 just now, experienced the objective marker issue.. came to this forum IMMEDIATELY and saw your post, then downloaded and installed the AMD core optimizer immediately. I then ran ME2 immediately afterwards and no objective marker issues! I'm estactic! Thank you thank you thank you!

I didn't get to test this fix for very long. But if it indeed works, this post should be posted at the top. till then, bump for fix (hope)

As best I can tell, this has fixed the problem. 8 hour session; no beeps. Somebody give this guy a medal.

Good to hear that it sounds like this is working for people. I only had this bug briefly but it really was annoying as hell, plus my performance was impaired too.

Has anyone tried the AMD Dual Core Optimizer and still gotten this spastic radar bug? Or does this work for everyone? It's probably a good idea for dual core AMD chip owners to install this even if it doesn't help with this bug. I've run across other game bugs that get helped by this.

Approx. 8 hours of gameplay and NO GLITCH after the optimization install. Will report back if I hear a dreaded beep. Many thanks to you Doktor. I'm sure Bioware will also benefit from the information. Maybe they can announce the fix over the Cerberus Network :P

Ya restarting only adds a few good hours, but i tried downgrading my graphic card just to see if it would work and for some reason radar doesnt really beep at all (only odd occassion) after i did this, update again to latest version and its back.

@Loopy and Narr

As stated, downloading the AMD Dual Core Optimizer fixes the problem...at least for me it did. Many hours of playing beep-free.

So Apparently I have found that adjusting the graphics in game doesn't help.
