I've spent a lot of time with the Mass Effect trilogy, and I can honestly say, after having played through them several times... there are still many moments that hit me right in the feelings, despite having seen them already.

 

I'm not going to deny it: there were moments in the trilogy that made me weep like a damn baby. The stories were just that incredible. Mass Effect 3 was especially sentimental. It was as though someone had placed onions under my keyboard for the whole game.

 

Given the choice, it'd be really hard to say what invoked the most emotions for me in the trilogy, but I have to give awards to Shepard's talk with Anderson at the end of 3, and the final moment with the memorial wall.

 

So what moment in the trilogy hit your feelings the hardest?

The Ending. For all the wrong reasons.

 

 

As for an actually emotional moment, probably Mordin on Tuchanka, both choices.

The suicide mission. The finale was epic especially when I got everyone out alive, besides that; Jack's loyalty mission and her conversation which mentions Murtock

My last run left with a dark hole in my soul for a while...I was as renegade as you can get, a racist too, and wasn't enjoying it much.  So I decided to rush thru ME3 and see what low war assets would be like.

 

The sadness started with Tali elegantly threw herself off a cliff, then I got an email from Tuchanka saying a huge bomb had exploded and there was a huge death toll.  Then the breeder Rachni went crazy and killed a bunch of ppl at the Crucible project.

I headed over to Sanctuary only for Miranda, Shep's ex, to die in a really touching scene.  Ash walked away tactfully and Shep and Miranda had a little moment together, it was really well done.

Then I'd skipped Grissom Academy, so found a datapad with Jack on it at Cerberus HQ.  She was being tortured, blood was all over the walls, and my Shep realised that in not going to their aid his old friend had been taken.  He then had to kill her a little while later.

 

I get to the beam run and totally forgot what happened with low EMS.  I took Shep's girlfriend Ash and bestie Javik, only to watch them get squished by a tank and nuked by a beam.  The look on Shep's face was awful, he was a jerk but he didn't deserve that.  The whole low EMS thing is distinctly more depressing.

He didn't save Anderson, who got shot in the head by TIM, so had to sit there for the whole time in silence.  I legit thought the audio had broken. 

Then, to reflect his mood, he told the kid to bugger off and shot at him.  The Reapers won.  All was lost and everyone died.

 

By the end I had a lump in my throat and was emotionally exhausted by it, but looking back it was kind of great.  It showed me there is diversity in ME3, you can do different things, and my Shep got his commupence.  He reaped what he had sowed, and in it's terribleness it was quite powerful.  

I'm glad I did it actually.  It was sad, but good sad, if you know what I mean.

When my first Shep got to to the crucible and Hackett's voice calling for her about Crucible not working. I could feel my Shep was SO tired and at the end of her endurance and she can barely move, her father figure had just died, but still she just had to get up and do everything by herself...

AND when I later bought Citadel and listened to Anderson's recordings at his apartment....

Ending the Genophage after doing Mordins loyalty mission and doing your best to sway him toward accepting responsibility for what he'd done.

Killing The Quarians with Tali.

That moment between tapping Grunt on the shoulder, him making a last stand and me realising he'd accidentally killed everything and survived.

Holy crap, I had totally forgotten about that. I had that happen one time, when I had no idea what the outcome would be in siding with the geth (and I didn't have the points to persuade in either direction at the time), but I thought it was the right choice. When I saw Tali kill herself... I was in so much shock, and so emotionally shattered that I had to restart the entire mission just to save her, even though I thought saving the geth was the right choice.

 

I don't know if that made Shep a paragon or renegade, but it did make him a friend, I suppose.

 

As for the rest of that post... good god. I've never seen it get that bad. I've always had max war assets, but mostly because I couldn't handle the devastation if I didn't manage to save everyone. But you know what? I am going to have to try it one time. It would be one hell of an emotional roller coaster!

I did most of this by mistake in my first PT as in first game since bringing it home from the shop.

Well, in Mass Effect 1 I had a moment that I can only compare to my 12 years old self seeing Return of the King  for the first time and watching that Ride of the Rohirrim and tearing up thanks to the sheer force of epic. The moment being Joker/Normandy 'charging' at Sovereign at the end.

 

And a whole bunch of moments in Mass Effect 3, most of which made up, to an extent, for parts of the series that I loved being gutted to the bare minimum. Anderson dying at the end definately got to me, beautifully sad moment - only to be overwhelmed by the snafu that came after it. Mordin's final scene obviously. My favorite robot Legion's final moment. My bruh Thane getting it - and thanks to f--ing Kai Leng. The love of my Mass Effect live, Miranda, not dying, but I sure as hell was worried that I made a wrong choice and got her kille - not tear-jerking but f--ing stressful. And to return to the same reason as the first: Mama Thresher Maw going at a reaper.

 

And the ending. That detroyed me - for all the wrong reasons. The extended ending didn't fix anything, either, it just put some band-aids on a crippled donkey. . . The bloody donkeys still crippled.

In ME1, I can't honestly recall  all that much that got much of an emotional reaction out of me. The ending battle against Sovereign, with the Normandy soaring in to deliver the final blow was uh... pretty inspiring? Oh, also, when Anderson finds your squadmates in the rubble of Sovereign, and asks where Shepard is - the look of sadness in your (potential) love interests face made me feel something.

 

In ME2, it was mainly the suicide mission. It didn't make me feel sad at any point, but there was this insane tension during the whole thing. I was worried for each and every one of my crew. After each section I'd have to take a deep breath, and go over in my head, making sure I was making the right decisions so everyone would survive. It always leaves me a feeling shaken and tense, even several hours after I've destroyed the Collector base and stopped playing.

 

In ME3, there were actually a few things. I feel like ME3 had the most emotional impact on me in the entire trilogy. Seeing Grunt emerge from the nest of Rachni, soaked in their blood, but alive. It reminded me of the collector base, the way I worried that I didn't do a certain thing in ME2 and didn't trigger his "survival flag" or something. But he definitely survived, and it made me so relieved I might of possibly almost nearly shed a single tear. Which is a lot for me.

 

Legion's sacrifice - One of my favorite characters from Mass Effect. It really took me by surprise, that Legion just had to go right there. I thought at first maybe I did something wrong or missed something, and could have kept him alive. But I had to deal with it. Not to mention the fact it happens within the same five minutes as that heart-pounding reaper fight and the big Quarian-Geth peace decision that had me dreading I wouldn't have the paragon/renegade/reputation to accomplish it.

 

Anyway, this post is getting long, so I'll just throw in honorable mentions. Such as...Curing the Genophage, Mordin's Sacrifice, going to Rannoch with Tali, having my whole team wipe on wave 11, Liara's romance scene in Citadel, returning to Earth, and the ending. Yes I liked it. I liked the ending. Fight me.

Though I felt the ending was lacking, I never really hated the ending.

 

What I did hate was that I didn't get to take part in something much grander in scale beforehand. I wanted to see my war assets called upon, with all species and all races fighting together at once. I wanted to see a huge invasion of the Citadel (and not by Cerberus) with everyone familiar from the games coming to help me fight. I wanted all of my choices up to that point to mean something. I basically wanted an all-new suicide mission with twice the awesomeness. In fact, I was looking forward to it through the whole game. I was hoping for that intense rush, that feeling of time running short while me and all of my amassed fleets fly in to destroy stuff. Maybe even have a big final battle where all of my team mates are with me, rather than a squad of three. What if there was an actual space battle? You're in the Normandy, leading a fleet, flying headfirst toward reapers and blowing them out of the sky to make way for the crucible. And I think of how much better Shepard's final choice would have been if he had his closest friends and loved ones there with him to either talk him into or out of something.

 

I loved the final goodbyes on the Beam Run, because it was so wonderfully emotional, but I felt like it was all too short. What if Shepard and his LI were at the crucible together to make the choice together? To say a real goodbye to each other? To hug, to kiss, to cry. To hear them try to talk you out of it, to plead and say, "There has to be another way. I can't lose you like this." I would have loved to see the reaction of Shepard's LI (no matter who they are) when they see and hear all that's going on up there. For a lot of people, myself included, the LIs were a huge part of the playthrough. To end the game with that character that Shepard has had feelings for in three games would have been amazing.

 

So maybe the fact that the ending was a let-down for so many was because of the high expectations we might have had for the conclusion. The endings would have been fine... if there was more to them. It was the feeling that it was rushed and unplanned that sort of spoiled it for me.

 

If something immensely epic occurred right before talking to the Catalyst, I might have been more okay with it. Hell, even Shepard dying might not have bothered me so much. The fight in London was intense, but it didn't get my blood pumping in the way I had hoped. Not the way I felt when the Normandy came sweeping around to blast Sovereign in the face, or the way I felt when that theme for the Suicide Mission cranked up when I was rushing through the Collector base.

 

That said, the endings always made me tear up when they're at the memorial wall.

Playing a renegade is pretty tough for me as well, but it encourages me to play through the games again as a paragon to redeem myself. Renegade Shep is absolutely hilarious in the way he handles things, like hanging up on the Council, but with other things, it's like, "I feel like picking on somebody helpless today. Hey, you in the wheelchair!" He'll go from being a total badass, saying things like, "I'll relinquish one bullet-- where do you want it?" to him simply killing his friends because he doesn't want to put up with them. If anyone really is Renegade Shep's friend.

 

But no offense comes close to being as harsh as the renegade choice on Tuchanka with Mordin. The tears flowed with a vengeance that day. My Shepard was friendly with Mordin in 2 even despite being a Renegade. That was so hard to watch. I don't think I could ever do that again.

• Talitha, especially after I found out that Shepard is lying about her past. (she said her family are farmers... what kind of farmers that battle Batarian raiders for days that they were killed by an artillery strike.. kinda overkill for slavers)
• Toombs killing himself just so Shepard would be the only one who lived.

ME2; 

• Listening to Shepard choking and die... 

pretty much nothing since I get the suicide run perfect and nobody die. ME2 doesn't illicit extreme emotional response for me.. there's a certain kind of detachment I guess.

Posted that before somewhere, but it's always fun, right?

 

In ME2, Tali during discovering her dead father (her voice acting is brilliant).

In my current run, I deliberately let Tali die. When she said to me "I won't disappoint you." when I chose her for vent duty, I choked up a little.

 

The rest is from ME3:

When Mordin died, especially when I shot him in the back in my last playthrough. Then I had Eve's funeral scene and that got to me too.

When Shepard continues the prayer during Thane's death scene.

The nightmares partially.

When I couldn't broker peace in my 2nd run, sided with the quarians and Tali got upset because she had called Legion friend.

When Joker was the one after the Citadel party to talk to me when going back to the Normandy, and the same with any LI I guess (I only had Kaidan so far).

The FOB scenes in London with Kaidan and Garrus.

The evac scene, as stupid as it is, but it just hurts saying goodbye to the squaddie that mattered most to your Shep.

The first time I played I legit cried at the ending, it was the only time real tears have been shed when I've been playing video games.  I picked destroy and Shep lived, but just having that entire wonderful space opera come to an end....hit me right in the daddy bags.  (The imaginary ones I don't actually have  )
