That bad huh ?

Honestly, when host has a solid connection, playing off host has almost no impact on my gameplay, a few glitches here and there but really nothing much. Had about 4 games with someone from Florida yesterday (I'm in France). Almsot forgot I wasn't hosting, one or two lag spikes, 30 secs of Annihilation Field bugging and one Ops pack I used but still died, that's pretty much everything that went wrong.

It probably helps that my connection is okay too.

Sniff. So much truth.
And so compact the wisdom. It's almost a form of art.

Wipe tear from eye. Thank you LR, for finally speaking that absolute logical truth.

I have to bump this compact wisdom, every page on this thread ,
now until eternity
because it has to sink in sooner or later.

I host only about one game in twenty on PC and never host on PS3. This game's netcode is pretty garbage, but like others have said, it's PvE so I don't really give a **** anymore. Fat turians are fairly resilient to lag, anyway.

However, I do find more and more I'm only wanting to play around about 6pm-8pm in my timezone, which is when most lobbies will be with people in my region and the pings and quality of the connection will usually be at least halfway decent.

Haha, I honestly can't tell if you're being sarcastic but I have to applaud the poetic form of your post, very moving.

I mostly play with friends who live in the same country as I do - as such, the lag isn't so bad off-host.

Even Novaguard works rather well off-host in these circumstances...but I do know from my countless silver quick matches that a bad connection completely f***s up biotic charge and much more.

I'm just hoping it will get better in ME:A...though I do believe the netcode situation in DA:I-MP isn't much better (if not worse) - doesn't really make you put faith in BW's netcode programming team.

I'm honestly suffering with you right now  :(

How can any of you stand playing that way? Are you secretly masochists?

You merely adopted the lag. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn't see a stable connection until I was already a man.

But seriously it's not by choice. We do it for the greater good as our internet is a dumpster fire. Hell, if all bad hosts out there would be willing to never host again, this game would be a helluva lot better.

And yeah, net code is really retarded and nonsensical. Projectiles going through enemies, blank grenades, false reloads, double cooldown on powers, 1st shot connecting by the time the 4th one leaves the barrel... Welcome to off-hosting.  <_<

Although the good news is if you're masochistic enough to keep playing off-host, after a while you get used to these quirks and can compensate for them. True story.

Playing this game on host and off host are two very different experiences. Still, if the connection to the host is good enough, they can both be enjoyable. I've had off host games that felt exactly like I was hosting (though very, very few, I'll admit. But that's probably due to my shitty connection). I've also had on host games that felt like I was playing on a host on the other side of the planet. Yes, lag while hosting is a real thing, at least if you have my potato connection.

Most of the times, though, if I want a smooth game I'll host. It's not usually needed unless I'm already raging.

You know why I spent most of my life playing MUDs (Text based games)?
Yep, potato PCs on potato Australian Internet. You have no idea what lag is until you've used an Australian Internet Connection.

Especially the ones where you lose connection for 3 days if it rains or there is a slight breeze.

If the host have a good connection it's definately ok to play off-host (eventhough it makes things different compared to hosting).

That being said, there are a lot of people with very bad connections that insist on hosting when they really shouldn't.

Also if you have just the right amount of latency (not super low and not super high, no rubber-banding and sh..t) it seems that enemies react slower and focus a lot on the host. They often run right past me, even though I'm much closer and in the open and dealing damage to them, which is weird.

That´s my experience too, but beware once they do engage. It´s not rare that the enemies shoot at you and the game doesn´t register the hits right away, only to apply the full damage half a sec later. Getting downed in 0.000001 secs is helluva fun I tellz ya.

I will, however, say that even when it doesn't appear to be laggy (Powers don't fly through enemies, no rubber-banding, etc) it's still a horrible experience, as it feels like the enemies are never quite where they appear to be. Which makes Sniping and high-accuracy weapons a nightmare.

The only enemy who does that on a regular basis, is the geth bomber. But hey, atleast it bullsh*ts the player equally on or off-host.

I don't play on PS3 but I heard about this scrub from France that compensates for his bad connection by only using glitched 6/6/6/6/6 builds and the missile glitch :P

I played for some time shadow with eagle off host and actually it is not bad. You can always cloak and shoot the gun on later waves, works like any infiltrator. Also, electric slash can sometimes detonate something somewhere. Every little thing helps.

You could do that.

Or you could attempt to go 4v1 against Phantoms with said lag, swords only fight to the death, and ascend to Valhalla.

QFT. My single most horrifying/embarrassing moment in all my games happened when I was accidentally hosting, which as I said earlier is a very rare occurrence for me. QMR honoured me by joining in as a Krogan on Giant Hazard, along with Mordokai and a random other who was in on the theme. For Tuchanka and all that. Mordo was drunk, and QMR was using MC Hammer, possibly for the first time. Everything was going riotously well until wave 9, which I was left to clutch, but got synced at the bottom of the back ramp.   Now, I know it's human nature to deny responsibility following a major derp, but I swear there was more to it than my scrubbery, and can still recall the little visual glitch and loss of frames before I got grabbed.

QMR's one word message simply read, "Unacceptable" as we were heading back to the lobby, and felt worse than a kick in the quads. We took revenge in the next game, but it still hurts.

It really was a kick in the quads. Apparently health regen doesn't work on them.

Ark, this is my reply to you saying i'm not the official queen cuz of the no nic cage wearing a tiara post..... dammit, I was just typing my response as that thread got nuked...RIP you magnificent thread.....  here is / was my response...

I really combed thru the catacombs that is the internet searching for a nic cage wearing a tiara...and there were only 2 of them and neither felt right.. If I were any good with computers I would have photoshopped one,  but I am just not good at using it...I asked my brother if he would make one... you should have seen the look on his face when I asked... here is that conversation.........  (  Me =  " Hey bro, listen, if you have a few extra minutes...would you mind making a picture of nicolas cage wearing a tiara?  him = " Now, why exactly would you need something like that?"   Me =  "Well, I am sorta running for the queen of..... never mind." )   .....

It is sad how nobody understands our need for Nicholas Cage in a tiara and an official Queen of the BSN to guide us.

It was indeed glorious. And then it went strange, namely the penguin eating part. Still, it picked up towards the end.

You are evil. An evil, evil, Penguin.

Also, make sure it is on PS3, where the netcode and hardware is even worse.
