Well I'm in Emerald Graves walking through the river when I see this woman's corpse. Well it gave me a side quest and I thought she looks like a noble and she fell so it was "the game the orlesian play at where they back stab eachother". As I go up I see picnic basket a note crystal grace I think they are called.

As I read the diary I find out a very creepy story that led to this womans death. My questions are why did the girl forget about yven and who or what is this Mother she speaks of??.

The "Mother" was a demon who tricked the girl to fall to her death.

Probably a Desire Demon.

The quest in question:

BW uses "Mother" here and there for villains, like in Awakening and Jade Empire. JE Mother should make a cameo or easter egg in DA at some point.

Betta's actual mother was dead. When she and her sister were forced to flee into the forest due to the war, they fell prey to a demon who posed as their deceased mother, altering their thoughts to believe she had never died. The demon also made Betta forget about her nephew, whom the demon presumably killed. One can assume the sister met the same fate.

When Betta went to pick flowers, she fell to her death. Or did she jump? Perhaps she realized what had happened and thought suicide was her only way out.

And what happened to the demon? Sadly, we'll probably never know.

The note is found right next to Chataeu d'Onterre. I was under the impression that is where they took shelter and the demon was the same one who possessed the d'Onterre child.

Pretty sure it's supposed to imply that the Desire demon that resides in Chataeu d'Onterre was messing with the woman and eventually made her fall to her death because that is usually how demons amuse themselves. The Diary does mention that they took shelter in an abandoned house and the only building in the near area is said demon infested Chateau.

This is the assumption I went with as well :)

I can't say this with absolute certainty, but I'm not sure that the "house" Betta stayed at was Chateau D'Onterre. It's in close proximity and it is definitely haunted by a demon, but the description of Betta's house ("There is a roof and some hay") suggests that it was a bit more "agrarian" than Chateau D'Onterre. Like, why is a roof notable unless you expected it to be caved in or missing? Also, the demon in the chateau seemed focused on killing intruders, not screwing with them.

Might depend on the intruders. A couple of young kids wouldn't pose much risk to a demon but could be a source of entertainment. A well-armed party of Inquisition specialists, one with the Fade attached to their hand, would definitely be seen as a threat.

Well actually the demon there does initially just f*ck with your party by lightening candles and making spooky noises. Only after some time does it start to send corpses after you.

But yeah, it's not entirely clear what exctly happened to Betta.
