How long would you last?

You can bring any items, medicine, books, or technology you like.
You are immune to all forms of magic... including healing. You are in, but not of, this world.
You are not connected to the Fade - Sloth would not be able to put you to sleep. You are distinct from the humans of this world, though they would not know it from looking at you.
You cannot be afflicted by Taint, but the blood remains toxic to you, and an ax will cleave your skull as easily as it would here. You wouldn't survive the Joining ritual without a stomach pump if you attempted it.
How would you prepare? How would you contribute to holding off the Blight?

I wouldn't be a bad archer. Never shot at people (lol), but I imagine killing darkspawn wouldn't bother me after awhile. I'd try to find high ground and stock up on ammo and food, until I figured a way to get to Denerim. Maybe I'll meet a pirate to get me into the sea. I think I could convince her. Hint hint. I wouldn't have a caravan or big family to worry about... I'd be better off than most refugees.
OTOH, it's possible I'd get conscripted for Ostagar. And then die there. ![]()

You're taken from our world to Ferelden and dumped off in a location of your choosing.

I suppose I'd bring something of modern make that could be sold as the work of a master in Thedas for startup capital, flee to the Free Marches with the other refugees, make my way through Nevarra to the Andefels and see if I could enlist with the Templars there, counting on that immunity to magic, and try to avoid getting addicted to Lyrium if at all possible. The perks of being a Templar are immense and recruitment doesn't require any particular skillset going by Alistair.
Screw the Blight.

I'd probably trip and break my glasses and then be SOL.

Hadn't even thought of Lyrium, though I figure it'd be about as healthsome as guzzling mercury.I suppose I'd bring something of modern make that could be sold as the work of a master in Thedas for startup capital, flee to the Free Marches with the other refugees, make my way through Nevarra to the Andefels and see if I could enlist with the Templars there, counting on that immunity to magic, and try to avoid getting addicted to Lyrium if at all possible. Most weapons and whatnot one could bring would soon become useless without the manufacturing to maintain them, though I imagine they could be pivotal to a single battle. I don't care what those scales are made of, an anti-materiel sniper rifle in the hands of someone who knows what they're doing with it would put a high dragon down for the count.

It would take me years of training to be an adequate combatant. I wouldn't try. Instead I'd contribute by being an insufferable know-it-all and selling my inside knowledge of the game or trading it for my safety. I'd pack a gun, just for dealing with darkspawn if there's no other choice

Well there are no places that sells ammo in thedas but learning Archery and arrows and bows are replacable. Also Trap making and Explosives are just as useful. Learning how to adapt to Thedas without replacing parts for Modern technology will be important. Also Herbalism and learning about modern medicine will be useful skills to have in thedas. Any skills that can be transferable are useful.
Most of us due to game mechanics, would become Rogues. Due to most of us are not dedicated Fighters/Warriors, and had developed other skills. I am very decent at Stealth and good at covering terrain. Also I am decent at Duel-wielding and Archery. A Willing Student can learn a lot and become a good fighter and useful within Thedas.

Maybe, maybe not. We see sane, fit and healthy templars well into their sixties who have presumably been taking it for decades, so I doubt it's as damaging as all that taken in small, regulated doses.
Exactly. I'm an electrician by trade, and much as I would love to bring technological advancement with me to Thedas everything I'm educated to know how to do relies on a huge infrastructure of several overlapping industries gradually evolved over three hundred years. Theoretically I could bring enough materials to set up something more or less permanent for my own benefit, but it would take years of research, preparation and effort, and I'd only need to make one mistake for it to be completely useless. I was thinking more in terms of art or synthetic gems, something I could liquidate quickly and would last me for as long as possible until I'd find reliable wages.
An anti-material rifle would be a nightmare to lug around, look very weird, and it really wouldn't save you from a group of determined attackers. And Qunari agents could get wind of it and suspect you of having stolen the secrets of gaatlok. I might bring a handgun and a combat knife made to last just in case, but I'd rather go cold turkey and focus on adapting to life in Thedas proper than try to bring short-sighted modern utilities into it and make trouble for myself.
Obviously I'd get myself checked out first though, and bring a medical manual or two as well. Magic not working on me would be an advantage when hunting and brutalizing mages, but being immune to healing magic in a society with only primitive medical alternatives is one hell of a downside. Healing poultices are all well and good, but I don't want to find out what Anderfellian dentistry entails.

Well, I'm boring. I misunderstood the original post about bringing in modern tech. But the point stands, I'd still be an archer. I wouldn't be that much worse off, even without a gun. Better maybe...no ammo issues really.

What do you mean by being an archer, exactly? Would you enlist in the army as a bowman? Survive by poaching?

I just mean I have enough skill to defend myself. If I didn't get conscripted for Ostagar, I'd be OK. If I just popped up like the Terminator, I might just not get conscripted.. no one would know me. ![]()
But I mentioned what I'd do earlier... and yes, poaching would work too. My main goal would be trying to safely reach Denerim and get on the sea.

If you landed near Ostagar, Gwaren would be closer. You'd just have to cross the Breceilian Passage to be safe from the darkspawn.

That's true...
I would think just about everyone is getting conscripted though, no matter where you land.

I would open a video game store. I would have all consoles with me with various games to play. hahaha
Most likely I would be a warrior helping fight the darkspawn

1. I would find Isabela
2. Beg her to bring me on her boat to anywhere but Ferelden
3. Then die once the Qunari found her and began attacking her ship.

Get to Kirkwall like a lot of other refugees, then join the Qun.

I doubt I'd last long against the darkspawn ^^;
for one...I'm a terrible runner, I'm squeamish about blood, and without my glasses I wouldn't be able to shoot them from afar either
So I'd probably be killed by whichever monster would find me first XD
Though if my glasses don't break, I suspect I would be able to kill some darkspawn before being overwhelmed,
provided someone teaches me how to shoot a bow (I've only done it once, and I'm not very good at it) ^^
Or I'd be lucky and life in Denerim, take ship before the Battle of Denerim, head to Kirkwall and then move toward Ostwick (I don't think I'd be a good Qunari convert ^^; )

Immunity to magical healing is a crippling disability for anyone who wants to engage in combat in the setting. I'm staying the heck out.
