Thane, Kasumi, Illusive Man, Legion and EDI.

I find them all quite interesting and complex characters. Also I like learning about different alien cultures and Thane is pretty much only one teaching us about Drells. I'd love to hear another viewpoint on Drells in ME:A. Legion and EDI also give lot of information of Als and like whole dilemma about when robots become persons/humans in fiction so that combined to Legion's fanboyness and EDI's humor is pretty great.

Garrus, Javik, Miranda, M1 Ashley. ( don't like what she has become in M3, it was meh, I think Bioware neglected her, and her reaction in M2 made me roll my eyes. Also, the buggy eyes were hard to watch. )

Honorable mention for the Illusive man and Zaeed. ( loved hm but too bad he was underdevelopped )

Ashley looks a lot better in ME1 and 2... More suitable to her character of an infantrywoman.

My favourite is Garrus (perfect friend or a possible love interest) followed by Liara (great friend and a love interest too), Wrex and Grunt (I won't even comment these two, awesome krogan pals, would totally romance Wrex if possible). Grunt had the funniest scene in Citadel DLC. :D I also adore Joker, Thane, Mordin, Legion, Kasumi and Tali. Aria is awesome too even though she was never part of my Normandy crew. xD Loved her even more on Omega DLC. And I mustn't forget dr. Chakwas, my loyal doctor throughout the whole trilogy, healing my wounds. :P And Traynor who managed to save the Normandy with her toothbrush. xD

1 - Garrus - Because of his evolution during the trilogy (and also because he is a good bro and the best LI option available).

2 - Wrex - A good friend and a badass.Mass Effect is not the same without him.

3 - Javik - Hands down the best ME3 character.

4 - Jack - A mad woman with a soft soul,I love her.

5 - Mordin - "Someone else might have got it wrong".

P.S. If I were to put Shepard on this list,He/She would be one of the less important characters...

Ashley looks a lot better in ME1 and 2... More suitable to her character of an infantrywoman.

I wasn't a fan of Ashley's default appearance in ME3, because that catsuit looks like no other uniform we see any other Alliance Marine wearing. But even so, I had less of an issue with that than Asley wearing pink/red and white combat armor when you fist meet her in ME1 and ME2.

Ashley looks less believable as infantry in ME1 and ME2 because she goes into battle in armor painted in the most non-tactical color scheme imaginable. It's also as non-standard as that awful ME3 catsuit.

At least in ME3 you never have to send her into battle in anything but proper combat armor, and having the helmet on makes her hair a non-issue. Even without the helmet though, long flowing hair is going to be less a problem than wearing armor that practically casts a spotlight on your position.

Nostalgia is the only reason why ME1 Ashley and her garish Phoenix armor gets a pass from fans. Her character design has been consistently flawed, and despite some problems in ME3, there was at least a modicum of improvement. Ideally though, her default appearance would have been camouflage utilities similar to what ?Traynor and Cortez wore, and her hair would be tied back in at least a ponytail.

For the squadmates, my two favorites are Garrus and Wrex. Garrus since he's the scopin and dropin, collar poppin best wingman ever! Wrex because he's Krogan and a badass one at that. These two are followed by Grunt, Joker and the rest of the gang. I also quite like how Javik turned out and his quotes on war but my favorite line has to be "Throw it out of the airlock"

But there are also a bunch of other characters in the game who despite their very limited time, made a good impression. For one there's Charr the krogan poet and his love Ereba, with his love poems "Oh blue rose of illium.." That was a great little story in game though sad.

Kal Reegar was another favorite for being a good space marine and it would've been fun if you could recruit him to the squad. Another would be Niftu Cal the biotic god!

Also the specters Nihlus and Tela Vasir. Vasir in particular was a great fight as a vanguard and she even had a car chase! Saren as well was a very interesting villain in ME even though he was shown to be a pawn at the end.

Honorable mention to Marauder shields though, his sacrifice should be honored!

1.) Mordin - He was the perfect package, he combined a tragic backstory, an excellent loyalty mission with serious consequences, and was just so damn funny outside of it too. I let him live now, krogan be damned, because he's just entertaining and amazing.

2.) Garrus - If I hated Garrus, I'd think he felt forced, but now, I just like the dynamic. He's got your back, you're bros forever, he basically fulfilled everyone's Chewbacca thoughts. Plus, I got to understand turians a bit too. Only thing I didn't like was his romance, I thought that felt tacked on.

3.) Legion - This was everything the zerg wanted to be. I really understood the world of the geth, Legion was confused to the nature of humanity, but didn't want war. A little bit could've been explained better, but his alienness was appealing, and I liked the fact that he was trying really hard to communicate with humans.

4.) Kaidan - It's been a crazy ride with Kaidan, but I liked how they fleshed out his story with the conversations about Dr. Cole, and the whole Spectre thing. I felt like, because I took the time during my off-time to speak to Kaidan and let him work things out, him siding with felt like the way a story should unfold. Plus, there's also those funny details of that redhead turning around in ME3's intro to check out Kaidan's ass. That was hilarious.

5.) Samara - Of all the characters in this game, she felt the most alien. Her mindset was completely different and I found her fascinating. I also loved how tragic she was. Some of the Ardat-Yakshi details needed to be ironed out because ME3 had their retcons, but she was unique and fresh. Plus, her romance was amazing, even what little we got from it.

6.) Thane - Samara-lite, Thane's alienness was amazing. I only wish I could've gotten some more from the drell philosophies, given that Thane and Kolyat where the only ones we saw. His end was truly tragic. I never romanced him, but I've seen the scenes, and he was very sad. He really put a face on how the galaxy was suffering, and I liked that.

7.) Kasumi - For a game full of sad, tragic moments, Kasumi provided some much needed joy. Her upbeat, fresh personality made me smile, her mission was unique and memorable, and even when things got sad, I loved how Keiji brought out a mature side to her. Her mission in ME3 was equal parts hilarious and felt like something Shepard should be doing at that point. All in all, she suffers from lack of content because she's DLC, but she was worth the price.

8.) Tali - She is adorable, and combines tragedy well, but I think she angsts a bit too much about her dad. I understood it, but the more I heard it, I ended up being a bit annoyed by the end. Plus, her gameplay was very odd. Still, her dialogue on the quarian ship was amazing. And her romance was beyond precious.

9.) Zaeed - Similarly to Kasumi, he suffered from DLC, but at least he was free. He was freaking hilarious, great in a battle, and his mission really undercut what choices meant, and how bad decision making from our folks could make things suck.

10.) Grunt - I love you, Grunt. Unlike so many of the other characters, he was straightforward, and I loved it. Just some mindless love of killing, understanding the medium, and fantastic in battle. Plus, his banter in ME3 was absolutely great. He appealed to my lowest common denominator, and that was fine.

11.) Miranda - I think she rivals the VS for growth over the course of the story, but in ME2, she was really insufferable. She came off too much as the Cerberus cheerleader. I just wish she trusted me more in 3. I appreciated the fact that she knew I had my own problems, but seriously, don't screw around with the safety of your family, get the big guns on that early.

12.) Javik - Like Grunt, but he made a lot more morally dubious decisions. Although I can understand it if I think about it, I do need to spend the time doing so.

13.) Ashley - I don't dislike Ashley, and I think she gets undeservedly vilified for space racism, when a lot of other characters like Wrex get a pass for it. However, her dialogue is infinitely inferior to Kaidan's, and her redesign just makes her look like she ripped off Miranda's look (seriously, military women pin their hair back so it isn't in the way. At least let her pin in while on missions.) I also dislike how she keeps mentioning Cerberus, when Kaidan points out that he doesn't understand why Shepard is pointing a gun at Udina.

14.) Anderson - Yeah, he's only a cameo character, but he was cool, goddammit.

15.) James - Vega was good for the newbies, and i can understand why he was needed, but he was fairly dull when compared to the other characters. Loved that punch-out with him, though, that was a fun scene.

16.) EDI - I loved EDI's character, a lot. Her growth, her character arc, that nifty bit at the end where she was the Luna VI, it all worked for me. Her dialogue was funny and heartwarming. As much as that did it, the sexbot ruined it. I think, if she needed a body, it should have been something more akin to her personality: Giant trollfaced rabbit.

17.) Jenkins - Yeah, he dies in the first battle in true BioWARE fashion, but he was adorable and I felt bad that he died.

18.) Jack - Jack was great when she wasn't in the party, but when she was in ME2, she was insufferable. About the only thing I liked about her was taking her Warp Ammo.

19.) Wilson - I was intrigued by Wilson. I pegged him for death almost immediately (didn't play the demo) but I really wish we could have discovered more about him. That being said, total dickwad, deserved death when he got it.

20.) Nyreen - Wasted potential. We had the first chance to see a real turian (Garrus considers himself not a very good turian) and it was turned into little more than a XenoFemSlash fanfic. If I could've brought my squaddies along, maybe that dialogue with her could've worked better.

21.) Kenson - "I can't hear the whispers anymore!" was an utterly fantastic bit of voice acting. But it was pretty clear to me she was indoctrinated, and there was not much else to say about her.

22.) Morinth - Only useful to get her skill, and then reload to kill her. Like Nyreen, she was wasted potential, given that she disguises herself as Samara, and all of Morinth's self-righteous talk can be shut up pretty easily (Ardat-Yakshi are sterile, so they don't make a good future for the species)

23.) Jacob -  If Garrus was Chewbacca the bro, this guy was Blando Calrissian. The cheating on Shepard was douchey, but even without it, he was literally a bit of walking scenery and salutes. It showed when the Dr. Cole mission worked just as fine without him. I got more emotional resonance leaving Ronald Taylor to the feral males than any part involving Jacob. He was everything Kaidan already did, but much much worse.

24.) Aria - In the beginning, Aria was a bit forced, but pretty fun. I liked her hints of a past with Mordin, and the implied bit of where she tells Nef's mother that Morinth was killed was wonderful. But then the Omega DLC came out and ruined it. She turned into a tantrum, bloodthirsty git who I was screaming to shut up before I reached the first check point. By the end, I wanted to make a deal with Petrovsky and kill Aria instead.

25.) Wrex - In the first game, Wrex was okay. He fulfilled the Zaeed like function of a tantrum baby willing to destroy the mission for his needs. Okay, it had emotional resonance with me, it worked. Then the second game showed up and he was doing his thing. I thought it was cliche, but it was an ultimately forgettable part of the game. Then the third game, and Wrex turned into Dinosaur Jesus fighting the cruel and horrible salarians, and all the bad things about the krogan were completely ignored. Wrex made some horrible blunders that were in line with his character, but I not only couldn't criticize him, I had to blast my allies for daring to hurt Dinosaur Jesus's feelers. The story was infinitely better with him dead, but I don't mean it like his death was important. I mean the story was better with him gone. And that's worse

26.) Liara - From the beginning, this chick was nothing more than Shatner fantasy. Her plot was annoying, her characterization was non-existent, and I didn't even talk to her when I didn't have to. But then she was retconned into my bestie. She was constantly around. The Genesis comic kept telling me how wonderful she was. Her characterization in ME2 became scattershot and spaghetti, and the Shadow Broker mission turned my third party member, who could've been my lover, into a living prop. By ME3, I'm done with her constantly being everywhere, inviting herself up to my room. Pure bad writing, that's all she was.

Of the NPC's, the best was Kirrahe. Followed by Matriarch Aetheyta and Tarquin Victus.

Other than the armor, I still found Ashley better designed in ME1. At least in ME1, I can give her camo or black armor and be done with it, right from the beginning too since there's armor you can loot in the nearby crate once you recruit her. Of course, this gets tossed out on Virmire, since both Ashley and Kaidan reset back to their defaults through much of it. I'll never understand that damn Phoenix armor. Why the hell would anyone want to put on this strawberry shortcake suit into battle?
