How would you guys like the addition of character emotes and gestures in to MEA? Lately a lot of games seem to be having this and for someone like me who considers emotes to be the best thing since the invention of 3d games, it is a pretty great freaking addition. Especially in the multiplayer, it'd be very helpful as a means of communication which is faster and more entertaining than text.

But why not just use a mic some of you might ask? Well that works but it just doesn't have the gravitas of your in game character vigorously expressing their sentiment through their actions. I wouldn't want my character to just stand there after they've just kicked some serious ass, no I'd expect them to be dancing a mazurka in the ruins!

Or as I like to call it, The lonely boy for all you Black Keys fans out there.

Gestures can also exactly depict how you feel after certain situations, kinda like gifs do in these forums. Like the first time I dropped into a platinum match by accident when I was searching for bronze.

Spoiler

Or when you get grabbed by a banshee's magnetic hands from across the room.

Spoiler

Or just one of those games where you absolutely have no clue as to what the fudge is going on!

Spoiler

I think it works great in the sp as well, just imagine fighting those krogan warlords in ME2 and Shepard's all "come at me bro", a la Devil May Cry style.

Spoiler

Anyways I would be a happy Krogan if they introduce gestures and emotes in game, so I don't need to just rely on headbutting people to tell them how I feel. Praise the Sun!

Also bonus video, I think most of you might have seen this but if you haven't...p-p-p play it!

P.S My apologies about the gif spam but it just wouldn't have the same feel otherwise.

I didn't know I needed this... But now I'm gonna be disappointed if it's not included in MEA.

It's a gimmick, I don't need it.  Resources are better spent elsewhere

the resources could be better used. It'd alright I guess. But it's not necessary. In black ops 3 it just makes you look retarded. And BATTLEFRONT well......It was better than cod. I'm indifferent to it.

Well for one, the quality of the game needn't mirror the resources or investment behind the game. More resources spent =/= a better game. Besides the addition of gestures is a rather small investment, even the original dark souls which had a much much smaller budget had plenty of gestures and it wasn't even considered an AA game on release.

Also as far as I know resources don't really work like that, where the developers run out of this huge bucket of "resources" one day and say "Oh well, that's that!" An exaggeration sure but large game studios have several competent teams working on different aspects of the game simultaneously. So this argument of focusing on a particular feature leading to less resources for the other areas of the game is pretty silly.

Oh well, I guess this is one of my personal whims after all.

like I said. I'm indifferent. Definitely no emotes in SP though. I curse this day in age. And I'm a millennial.

For someone that plays a lot of Dark Souls i think that's a great idea. But the ridiculous looking gestures should be only in MP.

What about some gestures that makes your squad engage in a conversation? Sit and have a little talk about the situation.

That would be really cool.

This kind of stuff breaks verisimilitude for me. Maybe it would be okay in MP only, as Furisco suggests?

I also like Furisco's idea for conversation prompts during exploration. That could be cool. That kind of stuff can potentially create verisimilitude, rather than breaking it.

I always thought I might like to see Shepard gesturing (ala ME1, when s/he gestures Jenkins to his death) whenever you use the controls to position squadmates.

It might interrupt whatever else the PC is doing at the time, though.

No thanks. I'd like to use the buttons for more power quick slots instead. Maybe even separate the Interact/Revive/Sprint/Take Cover/Dodge/Everything Else functions into different buttons.

Hehe.

I'm picturing lining up a krogan headbutt with a pelvic thrust and how rude it would look.

It seems like it would be unnecessary for SP but part of me would love to go around and troll everyone with gestures. Not sure how it would work with MP in ME since if I recall there was not a lot of downtime in it since it is horde mode. Maybe something like GTA 5 has where you can set a gesture and at the end of a successful match it shows each individual in the squad doing a gesture. If they did have this in the game I would bet that you would have to pay for most of them.

A millennial who protests millennials, what are the odds

I'd honestly love emotes/gestures in MP, as long as it was accompanied by a multiplayer that actually felt like something worth playing. Don't get me wrong, I play ME3MP but it feels exactly like what it is-- a tacked on afterthought. Give us a full-fledged MEAMP and throw in some fun emotes and that would be great (as long as it doesn't draw time/people away from making a stellar SP that is).

I mean who DOESN'T dream about teabagging an imaginary opponent as a vorcha?

Let me preface this with, if BioWare does implement something like this I don't care for it is their game.  I just don't think it makes much sense as a business decision.

The first problem I can see is that the animators at BioWare are probably already overload with making sure they have all the power animations, weapon animations, cutscene animations, idle animations finished for the game's release.

If the first problem I see is something that would be a factor to me it would then become DLC and I can see the cries of microtransactions and the negativity around that with BioWare and EA trying to get past the negativity around Mass Effect 3 that could push the decision in a direction of "nice, but no".

As mentioned above is that they would have to dedicate a space on the controller for emotes which already problematic for BioWare for going back to Mass Effect 3 I forgot how frustrating it was to have so many actions bound to one button.

I don't think this is a problem with the newer consoles, but with Mass Effect 3 they removed the holster animation from the game because they needed that memory elsewhere.  Unfortunately you never know if this could be a problem with an open world game if they are aiming to make use of all the memory for other areas of design though.

I'm sure BioWare would pour tons of resources into animated dances and gestures. Enough to compromise the rest of the game, probably.

Upcoming announcement is the game's full title. "Mass Effect Andromeda: Dancing All Night."

I see these little depictions and representative gestures as juvenile and out of place in a ME game. After-action behaviors should be in keeping with the character.

For example, Riddick's comment after killing a creature in Pitch Black was so appropriate for his character:

This is so much more powerful than a cartoonish dance. A Renegade should get a custscene like Riddick's after killing a boss. A Paragon's after-action behavior could be something like: "And that was for _____!", or, turn to a squadmate or a civilian and say, "Are you alright?"

ME is a mature game. Let's see it improve in a more powerful way for enhancing character development, not childish behaviors.
