After I finished DA:I a while back I wasn't too thrilled with how things ended. Trespasser changed my mind, it impressed me so much that I made it a point to play the game again someday. Recently Amazon had the GOTY edition on sale for 20 bucks. Since I had some credit I got it for $8 bucks so I dont feel that bad for double dipping but IMO this game is definitely worth it.

I started it up and was impressed by the quality on PC. It's not night and day above the PS4\XB1 but enough to make me appreciate all the effort that they put into this game.

Ok, done rambling....just wanted to know. I originally beat the game with a bow based Rogue\artificer. Wasn't as fun as I thought it would be. Was thinking about a two handed Warrior or a Mage. So far doing a lot of research seems the Mage is quite a bit of fun to play. I know they nerfed the Mage at some point because of that OP combination people used.

Suggestions of a class to play and specialization? Not closed the book on Rogue again either.

Also, any collectibles that are skippable? Kind of dread hunting those shards again....

I'd say mage. Mages are too fun in general - in all three games. But specifically, the new items and alternate skill modes added by the last patch (or by Trespasser, can't remember, but I think it was the patch) offer a lot of potential for neat playstyles. When I get back to the game, I'm very keen to try a real arcane warrior build - Knight Enchanter, using the Blade of Tidarion schematic (staff... but basically a 2h lightsaber, complete with animations), with the alt-mode mines. It seems like it could be a lot of fun.

Ill's suggestion: Mage - Knight Enchanter or Rift. I enjoyed Rogue, both dual wielder and archer, but Mage has been the most fun for me.

Skip the Shards - don't even look through one Ocularum, and it wont even show up on your map. No point in doing something you dread.

Since you've already done it - you know the rewards aren't exactly lucrative.

You're on the PC version: I would also suggest some mods @ Nexus

Quick war table, maybe some aesthetic mods, etc. It is a lot of fun, and makes each experience unique.

Oh...and get Sweet FX - you can toggle it, but it makes the colors really pop.

I play as rogues and mages, and I definitely recommend trying out the mage class. Knight Enchanter is my favorite. Yes, they "nerfed" it by making Spirit Blade's power reliant on a charge, but personally, I enjoy the challenge. I like to move around the battle field between the front and back lines as circumstances demand, so the flexibility of the class is really fun for me.

As for collectibles, I kind of think they're all skippable on a second playthrough, honestly.

I just got the GOTY edition for PC as well, now that I have a machine that can run it. I've only played around with the character creator so far but I was also impressed by the PC quality. And it looked great on PS4, I had no complaints at all.

I've played before as a human warrior (sword and shield) and it was almost too easy. I picked "Champion" since I played mainly as a tank in my party. I always had so much guard. I could kill a dragon single-handedly (though it would take quite a while without other party members).

Then I played as a rogue (elf archer) and I had so much fun with this one. For specialization I picked "Tempest". It sounded suitable for my archer. I didn't regret the choice. I mostly used "Flask of Lightning" since it made everyone around me slower. And I must say that focus ability "Thousand Cuts" can be damn powerful!

Now in this playthrough I'm playing as a mage (elf again) and for my specialization I picked "Rift Mage" since I heard some people were saying that "Knight Enchanter" can make you nigh invincible and I wasn't really looking for that. They've been suggesting it if you're going for Inquisitor achievement (nightmare difficulty). It looks awesome though. But currently I'm really enjoying Rift Mage abilities. I totally recommend it. I'm playing on hard now and so far I didn't have any major difficulties, actually it feels like I'm playing on normal difficulty. I'm yet to try the nightmare difficulty.

Just pick what sounds best to you. :)

Another vote for mage, preferably an Elven or Qunari mage. Vitaar add damage for the Qunari, making them the power house mages and Elven is just fun with the story, plus the ranged defense bonus helps since you are mostly at range with a mage.

Knight Enchanter is not so invincible as it used to be with Spirit Blade needing to charge to be effective but, it is a great Nightmare with trials on specialization. Rift mage is a ball to play too and, Necro is great if you like being the control expert of the group.

You've got to do a Blackwall, Iron Bull, Cullen and, Solas romance at least, each gives interesting insights into the characters you miss if you don't romance them. Cass is cool to see more of too. Dorian is okay, Sera is just silly fun but, if that's your thing. Jose is the Disney Kids romance of the game, sweet but definitely PG.

Great thanks for all the ideas etc. May make a stab at Mage. Not sure what I'll specialize in right away I can decide that later. I forgot about Nightmare mode etc. if there's achievements for that I guess I may tale a shot at that some day too. I romanced Cass which was hilarious. I may hit up Solas just to get more info on him. lol. Good to be playing the game again.

Two-handed templar or champion with AOE Block & Slash is very fun.

I'm also having a blast with a close-quarter necromancer build.

If you fancy a rogue, try dual wielding tempest. I found it one of the hardest classes to play,, but it can be very fun.

I prefer the Mage by far it's a lot of fun being a Mage the only thing i miss a little is walking and shooting firebolts at the same time like the rogue with bow can. Second for me is the rogue with bow. And third would be the warrior i just don't like close combat in DA I.

Play as a Rogue or a Warrior. Mages in this game are puny weaklings, a shadow of their former glory in DAO and DA2. I recommend playing as a Rogue because you have the option of playing from a distance with archery or in close quarters with double daggers. Additionally, Rogues output consistent high damage and all their specializations are good.

For minimum frustration potential - any ranged class. Spares you the clunkfest that is non-AOE melee combat and lets you go with glorious aim-assisting homing missiles instead.

That said, I played as a two-handed templar who went for Spell Purge and Wrath of Heaven with some parrying and grappling chain to remain versatile. Spell Purge can detonate Wrath of Heaven and the combo generally eats demons for breakfast and asks for seconds.

I'd say it would be a toss up between:

1.) Weapon and Shield Reaver

- The vanguard tree essentially nullifies the danger that being a reaver normally brings. Not to mention W&S has way more abilities to play around with on a much lower cooldown. Damage is not even that much lower than 2h.

2.) Knight Enchanter Mage

- In all honesty the buffs to this specialization have made it more enjoyable. Instead of spamming spirit blade I'm actually using more spells and constantly shifting between melee and ranged. Best of both worlds imo.

3.) Artificer DW Rogue

- I'm one of the few people that actually prefers artificer on daggers. Makes the rogue feel like more of a brawler class than a stalth oriented one (which i dislike) My favorite class by far was a duel wield warrior in origins and i feel like this is the closest thing to it in this game.

I mean I enjoyed the bow and artificer gameplay for the most part but in the end left me with wanting to try other classes. I guess its a design of a pretty good game.

Methinks female elf mage so I can get a little more info on Solas.....I might go down the Rift path or Knight Enchanter.

Also, I'm skipping shards, most requisitions and other collectibles. Hopefully I can get through it quicker to try a warrior or a different rogue for a third playthrough.

If i were you i would go with the Rift Mage profession it's just more fun then the Enchanter profession the Enchanter profession is not really a Mage build but that's up to you to decide with path you want to go.

And i wish you a lot off fun playing those different types of characters in DA I.

I've always thought mages are the most boring to play in  Inquisition, unless you go knight enchanter.

I guess I just like getting in the middle of things in this game. The most fun I've had was dual wield rogue with that chain grab talent that lets you zip between enemies fast. Feel like goddam spiderman.

Then you and me do not agree hey that rhymes  ;).

And i find the Knight Enchanter profession the most boring of the three.

Suggestions of a class to play and specialization? Not closed the book on Rogue again either.

Mage is a lot of fun especially if you enjoy dramatic visual effects. Also, it may seem weird to consider this, but you don't necessarily have to go with a specialization, lately I have been focusing strictly on the elemental spells and having a blast (literally) playing the game. I chose a specialization, I just left it empty.

Also, any collectibles that are skippable? Kind of dread hunting those shards again....

You can skip all the collecting,. Shards give you a nice bonus to certain defenses but if collecting them makes you crazy then it's hardly worth the trade. Just buy herbs and make potions instead. :)
