Puny mages with their fair play. I primarily play as a Rogue, which means I do not play fair. Your female mages will be killed in their sleep or have their meal poisoned. Even if we did fight, this sort of thing would happen:-

Mage is a lot of fun especially if you enjoy dramatic visual effects. Also, it may seem weird to consider this, but you don't necessarily have to go with a specialization, lately I have been focusing strictly on the elemental spells and having a blast (literally) playing the game. I chose a specialization, I just left it empty.

You can skip all the collecting,. Shards give you a nice bonus to certain defenses but if collecting them makes you crazy then it's hardly worth the trade. Just buy herbs and make potions instead. :)

Awesome, sounds like fun....I'll think about choosing a specialty or not. Never occurred to me to just skip specialization. I think when I played a Rogue I went without specializing for a while and then finally picked something because I figured "your supposed to". I'm currently just about to get Skyhold and have played for quite a bit.

Yeah the shards are a pain on certain maps. :P

An Elemental mage is great fun, with them I do take Rift Mage if I am soloing that mage. Stone fist is great at opening normal locked doors and, can blast things out of your way. Still some things you have to skip doing, bashing in walls and destroying red lyrium for Varric but, nothing game breaking needs to be skipped solo on a mage.

Or, if you are like me and detest jumping puzzles to get shards but want to get the loot out of that temple, grab one easy Hinterlands shard to give yourself one and, unlock the war table mission then, pop on Cheat Engine and the DAI table and, give yourself a few hundred of them. :P

You can use Stone Fist on the red lyrium.

Just beat it as a female Knight Enchanter on hard mode.....now on to Nightmare mode for my third play through. Its going to be either:

2-H warrior champion

Tempest Archer

Maybe just maybe I'll try a mage again cause it was a blast to play. :)

I have one last achievement (besides those in Trespasser) to get and that's beating the game in Nightmare.  whew.

Honestly, it does not really matter. Just pick a class and have fun. whatever you choose, remember that the game does not play DPS (Melee rogues and Dragon Rage Reavers specifically) that well, while the player can.

Play as a mage. I know, ironic coming from me, a Dwarf, but seriously, play as a mage.
