I liked the Trespasser sountrack, but thought the Inquisition main one was lacklustre. I'll be happy if I never have to hear the Dawn WIll Come (aka the Inquisition main theme) ever again. Same with the non-bard song version of Empress of Fire.
I loved the DA:O sountrack. Inon Zur's music IS Dragon Age.

Yes, please! He was fantastic, and with Trespasser he solidified his position as the composer for DA. I never felt Zur's work really clicked with DA, Origins had a very generic sound, and 2 was a hit or miss. The only thing BW themselves need to change is make the loops longer, I much prefer the approach, where the music keeps playing almost constantly. It's much more work, but it's worth it. I haven't played Skyrim in a long time, but I'm still listening to Jeremy Soule's soundtrack.
In general, I tend to enjoy Zur's work, when it's other composers, who defined the style of the music for the series before him (Fallout, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate). Morris definitely gave DA the unique sound the series was missing.
Jeremy Soule... I still have some of the Neverwinter Nights bits in my head and I haven't played that game in yeeeears.
I would prefer it if Inon Zur returned. There are some pretty great tracks in Inquisition--I especially like "In Hushed Whispers" and the music at the end of Trespasser (I forget its name)--but there are also quite a few tracks that I felt were kind of out of place and didn't quite belong in a Dragon Age setting. So on the whole I still prefer Inon Zur's work.
I liked DAI's soundtrack, but in general it felt too.. prim and proper, maybe. It was fitting if I played human, but for other races it lacked something.. But, well, whole DAI was too 'civilized' for my taste *drinks*
If only it had more tracks like this and story to back it up properly *double drink*
But I love Inon Zur's sound. And I miss Aubrey Ashburn. It's part of the Dragon Age Universe for me.
(currently try to play Sword Coast Legends and can't shake the feeling that I'm somewhere near Ferelden )
Morris' music sounds more... mature for me. Deeper, both in literal and non-literal sense. I mean, it actually gives the world of DA a proper identity - there's a cohesiveness to it; each track is its own, but at the same time all of them feel like part of a whole. I especially like subtle modern overtones in it, which I find fitting to overall style they've decided to go after choosing style direction from DAI onwards (being a fan both of orchestral and electronic music I find the skillful mix of both in DAI soundtrack very appealing for me, personally).
I didn't have the same impression with Inon Zur - there were some pieces I liked and which tickled parts of my brain the right way, but the music sometimes felt... random. I literally had to laugh at the music choice at the beginnings of mage origin (my first Warden choice) - it literally sounded to me like a generic 'fantasy'ish' tune from cheap Dracula movie
One thing I like about Zur is a lot of tracks are intimate and upfront... Morris (and I noticed this in film/tv stuff too) is sort of quiet and build up. Zur was really able to provide character portraits with his stuff this way. Not just a "mood" for a level.
I mean come on.. There can't be better songs for Fenris and Leliana than this.

Right... because this doesn't bring about a rather clear portrait of a melancholy of a certain lost elf
Not to mention Cory's theme

I haven't even played Trespasser. I'd rather not listen for now.
I only meant he deals in more mood and soundscaping.
And I don't know what you mean by generic fantasy themes. Like the Fenris theme is a pretty unique use of strings. I've been a musician myself for almost 30 years now. It still jumped out for me.

You're talking about different music piece than I do. Plus, please do read what I've written more carefully please. I've said that there were some pieces composed for DA by Inon that stuck out for me, but it wasn't a constant and the soundtrack overall was sometimes lacking in cohesiveness or identity. Hence, some pieces or themes sounded like typical fantasy pieces. I suppose it sort of went with overall 'general fantasy'ish' visual side of DAO, which partially struggled with its identity and partially was designed to be that way, at least at time of DAO.

The only thing I think you could be referring to is his use of Elvish language tracks? That's typical fantasy, I guess... at least since the LotR films. The Ashburn stuff does give it a sort of Enya feel. But they're great, nonetheless. To me, it fit well especially for the themes. Like Leliana's Song is In Uthenera. And a lot of DAO is about Death.

Leliana's Song is one of the few exceptions for Inon's work, it's fantastic.
The only other tracks of his that I enjoy are the first minute of this track...
Inon Zur's music for DAO and DA2 was pretty good, but I don't think it's his best work. (Personally, I love his Icewind Dale 2 soundtrack the most. That was excellent.)
On the whole, I prefer Trevor Morris and the music in DAI. The opening credits version of The Dawn Will Come and the Trespasser confrontation music give me goosebumps every time I hear them.
Jeremy Soule... I still have some of the Neverwinter Nights bits in my head and I haven't played that game in yeeeears.
Same here. I can close my eyes and can recall 'Heart of the Forest' or 'No Man's Land' (the theme of the city during night) without any problems. I was actually hoping he would compose, before DAI came out, but I'm happy with the result.
I will say though that Trevor Morris music risks being a bit too epic at times. I get so pumped by it and focus on it so much that it is hard to concentrate. Thank God I play on Normal or my party would probably die from spontaneous wiping. It'd be like *rocks out* yeah this is so totally awesome ma- wait what?!

I thought the soundtrack of DAI was exceptionally poor given that I've barely heard any of it during THE GAME.
What i missed the most was some good combat music and exploring music. There was almost none to be found, dead silent when running around and just ambience.
This is absolutely soul stirring. When I was fighting that final boss, I couldn't get over how powerful the message the music was sending was. I loved DAI's soundtrack, and Trespasser's even more. I think that Trevor Brings the Dragon Age feel more than Inon Zur.
Please bring back Trevor Morris!
Agree or disagree?
I love that one too. Its my ringtone and i play it often while doing chores or reading hehe. Both soundtracks are my go to playlists
I was going to make a similar thread. In particular I hope they bring back the Dread Wolf theme in DA4. I listened to it again today and still can't get over it.
It's like the visions I see, the implications I perceive, and emotions I feel when listening to Trent Morris's soundtrack are far grander and larger than the game itself.
I agree. Inon Zur was good. But Trevor Morris is awesome. I just have to close my eyes and listen to "The Lost Temple" to see the beautiful forest of the Emerald Graves. And I can't listen to the "Lost Elf Theme" without sobbing like a baby.
So yeah, I hope he will be part of the DA4 adventure!
