I would say, a lot.

Half of the Star War movie trilogy success was made by the design of the helmet of the Star Troopers and the helmet of Darth Vader...ok I know I'm a bit exaggerating here, but  the point is that a detail like an helmet can change the overall feeling of a game.

ME3 in my opinion did not excel  in this respect, in fact the enemy troops which, by the way, were the main enemy force encountered during fights, were too generic, and did not different much one from another.

Dont get me wrong, the armour and helmet were well done, but not very original, actually they were anonimous.

I would like to stress the importance of an enemy that has character, personality and the firts hook is the appearance.

I hope Andromeda will fix that.

Since the helmet has the big practical function to cover the face of an enemy, why not designing it with extreme care and thought, since it has to deliver an emotional impact on the player...helmets must represents the spirit of the enemy, which evil spirt it incarnates...

Japanese culture with its masks and helmets (from cartoons and films) has a pronunciate attitude to portray and enhance the enemies spirit exactly through this mystical objects.

What do you think?

I mean the design of the original helmets in ME were decent but i always tended to result to wearing other helmets i bought/found because i felt it was more unique to my character... i mean the design of the helmet looks pretty decent so i could actually see me sticking with that design but hopefully they have decent ones to buy and perhaps customize more with like liveries and insignias and stuff like that

I won't buy the game if the helmet design is inadequate. It's that serious.

I would like the helmets to be designed with head protection in mind. As long as they check that box I'll be happy.

I've always liked the turian helmet though, it reminds me of the original Mandalorian helmets from Star Wars and the design is very nice! And I think the popularity of the storm trooper helmets are more due to the success of the star wars films and not the other way round.

But yes more designs and liveries would be nice.

I thought Cerberus Trooper's helmets were awesome:

And so were (?) many other.

Overall, I believe Mass Effect did a good job with helmets. And I think the new one for Andromeda looks really good.

the point of a helmet is to make sure that my face don't get destroyed by something that may have penetrated my shield. in that regard the helmet should have as few edges as possible, so it deflect things AWAY from my face not TOWARDS it.

as for design, maybe we could have a choice to paint it with different marks and colours.

Helmets should probably protect your head.

Or not, if you're using a Javelin with Drill Rounds.

ME has been great with helmets from the first through the third, in my opinion. Even enemy helmets looked cool to me.

Other than the breather masks, I've been mostly okay with the helmets offered thus far.

I do think I'd like to see more helmets with completely transparent faceplates, so you could see character's faces when they are wearing helmets.

Helmets in ME are fine there are some cool design but they are not memorable....they are definitely realistc and serve the scope but I would a reaction like this: 'Oh my Lord! that helmet is so  ubelievable awesome!!!''....BW needs to dare more...

here few small examples:

1).a helmet that during the combat pushes out a 20 cm  blade in the middle from the nose part  till the back of the neck, to use it as a melee weapon....

2) a helmet that can be taken off and used as a bomb;, the trade off is an increased  vulnerability...

3) a helmet that act as a powerful speaker that scream words of war with bestial fury to incute fear into the enemies...

Good point, OP. Never really thought about it, but yes, helmets can be iconic. I never use helmets in Mass Effect, they look like motor helmets.

....

2) a helmet that can be taken off and used as a bomb;, the trade off is an increased  vulnerability...

Wouldn't it be preferable to just throw a grenade instead? I wouldn't want to have a bomb inside the thing that's supposed to keep me safe!

I do agree about the intimidation factor of armor and the image it creates. The movie Last Samurai had a relatable scene where the modernized army was fighting a samurai rebellion and they were  facing each other in a forest. I imagine this might be similar to how we might feel when facing off against an unknown species in a foreign planet, in fact the fear induced will be much greater.

(Ignore the bloody intro)

here few small examples:

So you would want them to abandon realism for awesome (citation needed) style?

1).a helmet that during the combat pushes out a 20 cm  blade in the middle from the nose part  till the back of the neck, to use it as a melee weapon....

How does that make any logical sense from a tactical or military perspective? You're more at risk of hurting yourself than the enemy.

2) a helmet that can be taken off and used as a bomb;, the trade off is an increased  vulnerability...

Why would you throw your helmet when you have your grenades? Why would have a bomb in your helmet to begin with?

3) a helmet that act as a powerful speaker that scream words of war with bestial fury to incute fear into the enemies...

Somewhat logical but can be very annoying or downright corny. Would it not make more sense for your character to taunt your enemy with the press of a button?

when I meant when I said to use the helmet as a granade, I meant a powerful granade, a sort of little nuke explosion....the trade off has to be fair...but I undertand that this idea is a bit nuke! :-P....

The first idea with the retracting blade is something!, I would like to use this weapon as a melee weapon, a memorable one even if a bit crazy...

I just wanted to explain how there are a lot of interesting elements to play with....

well, the speaker idea is interesting as according to the helmet chosen  you can have a different set of bestial scream...

Cheers!

So you basically want Nyx from Warframe?

Nyx.jpg?itok=Ej-zRpfv

That doesn't make much sense to use that as a weapon when you have a perfectly serviceable omni-blade on your wrist.

I understand the aesthetics of what you are describing, you are out of ammunition, have nothing left, so you throw your helmet at the enemy as they come towards you etc. The explosion is a need for effectiveness, thing is, I would be uncomfortable wearing an explosive device on my head, but perhaps this is no different from wearing grenades on a belt. I just feel this would be unpleasantly different if not dangerous, which it probably would be.

I would like a helmet with a speaker, radio, visual and audio systems and analytical systems, with a voice activated operating system, and a breathing system of some kind, filter & limited oxygen supply. In a way things that enhance the human functions of the human head.

I hope there is a helmet that resembles the Kasrkin respirator helmet:
