I guess this isn't really to do completely with dragon age, but i'm assuming everyone else thinks dragons are badass as hell. I was wondering what peoples fictional type of dragon is. You have the ones that are super smart and can communicate like the ones in Skyrim, or Smaug from the Hobbit. or you have the more bestial ones like the ones in dragon age, that act more like animals than sentient beings

Although ice dragons are the easiest type of dragon to fight, I like the look of the Kaltenzahn the best.

I'm pretty cool with both stupid AND smart dragons.

Overall, I like intelligent dragons that can communicate. Of the DAI dragons, Kaltenzahn is the best looking but, Vinsomer is my favorite fight, second would be the Highland Ravager.

Best = No long, drawn-out quest to acquire the dragon battle (rules out the Abyssal), no calling dragonlings (bye Fereldan Frostback, Sandy Howler, Kaltenzahn and Highland Ravager), no random flying (rules out Gamoran Stormrider, Greater Mistral and Hivernal). Lot's of people complain about regen guard or fire/lightning circles, but I don't mind any of that. So that leaves: Northern Hunter, Vinsomer, Coryphish's pet, and Hakkon, although Hakkon does the summoning thing too, but I'll let him slide on that one.

Oh, you meant for fantasy in general? That's a tough choice. Lot's of good options, like Smaug, Draco, Vermithrax Pejorative (one of my top 5), and of course Drogon.

But above all, I'd have to say Kalessin, of Earthsea. Followed very closely by SPOILER, also of Earthsea, though of latter days. Walking, talking, flying, magic using -- everything you'd want in a dragon, and more. Their very language is magic, the language of creation.

I prefer the clever ones, even if they are unable to speak.

On Mythology I like the norse ones, especially Fafnir and the Nidhogg, I could also put Quetzalcoatl, but I'm not certain that it is correct assign him as a Dragon.

On literature I like many, Smaug, the Harry Potter ones, but I think my favourite have been the ones on the Inheritance Cycle: Saphira, Glaedr, etc.

For video games, my favourites have been Thuran and the Dark Glass Dragon from the RTS Rise of Legends, as for Dragon Age, well, I liked Hakkon and Ataashi, the Queen of Dragons looks cool too.

I was ready with a picture of the blue and red kaltenzahn, but that isn't what you want. :(

I like all the dragons, whether they can speak or not.

Actually, that thing looks like a rip-off of a Nargacuga, with an Axolotl mask.

I prefer the smart ones like Paarthurnax and Durnehviir two of my favorite dragons and i like Smaug from the Hobbit to although he is not so friendly and rather wants to eat me for diner or he wants to set me on fire and that's just not a good idea.

The animation for the DA:I dragons is awesome so it makes them clear winners for me.

there's a moment in that desert place (not hissing wastes) where griffon wing keep is, and the high dragon lands on a land bridge in front of you and pushes off again. it's a thing of beauty. so the realistic movement does it for me.

Or Toothless. dragon cuteness personfied :)

Smaug is just smug and irritating.

Chrysophylax Dives from Farmer Giles of Ham by Tolkein.    A dragon that can be reasoned with, that is not particularly brave but nevertheless useful to have on your side.   It would be rather fun to have a dragon as a companion, particularly one that is not meant to be noble and good but simply sees helping you as helping himself, plus has a sneaky respect for you.    Chrysophylax is not cute and scares the s**t out of most  people but he and Giles have an understanding.

The dragon you get if you have drunk from the Well of Sorrows reminded me a bit of him in that you have to show it you are capable of standing up to it and then it will serve you, or rather the spirits/magic that controls you but that is the whole point, it is not actually you it respects and whether you assume it dies or not in the later battle, it clearly no longer is under your control and really was always more a servant/slave rather than a free thinking individual that chooses to befriend you.

For a really terrifying dragon I'd go with any of Tolkein's but particularly the earlier ones, like Ancalagon the Black.    I have a feeling that we have yet to meet a dragon like that in game since the Great Dragons would correspond to him and they have only been hinted at in the earlier comic series.    If anyone could claim to control them it would have to be Yavana but I'd like to think this would be because these dragons have free will and reasoning ability that allows them to choose to give their allegiance, rather than simply be slavishly compelled to do her will.

^Isn't the Dragon on the comics the Queen, though? She is significantly bigger than any other Dragon we've seen, she's seemingly also more clever than most.... Anyway, Great Dragon or not, she didn't strike me as she was being mind controlled by Yavana, but more as they were friends.

In videogames, the Dragon Age: Inquisition dragons are by far the best ones, IMHO. They are beautifully animated and have a great rangeof different actions / reactions.

When it comes to art and illustrations, being a D&D fan since forever, Todd Lockwood's dragons are by far the best ones: http://toddlockwood..../bronze-dragon/

Immediately followed by those drawn by Paul Kidby for Discworld: http://www.paulkidby.com/drawings/

In literature, I love the Discworld dragons and those of the Dragonlance novels.

In general, I love intelligent dragons that have 4 legs + wings (I don't like dragons that are depicted with just two legs and wings).

In terms of my favourite looking one in DAI I'd say the Gamordan Stormrider but as people have said the ice ones are the easiest to slay. I would say the electric ones in general are the hardest. Although I would say despite it being the lowest ranked dragon of them all the Ferelden Frostback can be quite a challenge.

On my very first playthrough, I have encountered the Ferelden Frostback pretty much by accident at a very low level.
I was able to escape because rogues can just disappear and run, but it was definitely a great "Oh, sh*t" moment. :)

I find them all beautiful and I hate to kill them. I only do it, if it's necessary for the storyline and I make sure, that Iron Bull is in the group then for the drinking scene. But apart from archdemons, I hate dragonslaying.

Melyanna: the Ferelden Frostback is easy to avoid - just stay moving and she will give up after a while.

In all of fantasy?  I like ones that can be ridden.  I'm looking at you, Dragonriders of Pern!

In video games in general?  Intelligent ones.  I love it when they're getting all cocky and then OOPS I'm stealing their soul.

In Dragon Age?  Any of them that don't  breath fire.  I hate fire breathers.  I think it's just a visceral thing as that seems like the worst way to go, but I'm sure having my family jewels shocked or frozen would suck too, so meh.

I like ice dragons, but also ones that are smart. I mean, what manner of creature doesn't think to fly away when it realizes that the odds of surviving aren't t that great?

Smaug - last of his kind - true heir to Ancalagon the black.

Paarthurnax - much more clever than his elder sibling.  Would make a fantastic antagonist.

In game the DA dragons are great for a fight but they're merely beasts.
