Yep, they confirmed I think over 200 years passed after the original trilogy.
Really? Source? Because this would make ME:A so much more tolerable.

Well, because when they made the Shepard Trilogy it was planned that Mass Effect would just be a trilogy. Mass Effect 3 was planned to be the last game, but shortly afterwords that plan was changed.
How would you know that? Just curious.
How would you know that? Just curious.
It was in one of the interviews with the devs during Mass Effect 3's production that because ME3 was going to be the final game they could go all out with the choices, something they couldn't do in ME1 or ME2 because the choices had to be workable for the sequels.
I agree but it's about one of them being canon. Some say that nothing will be canon which makes no sense.
- If control ending is canon, we should see the Reapers.
- If synthesis ending is canon, everything from MW will be part organic and part synthetic.
- If we don't see the above two scenarios happening in ME:A then likely it will be either destroy or complete-cycle ending. Species of MW either defeated the Reapers, re-built everything and headed to Andromeda or the surviving abandoned the galaxy completely and headed to Andromeda while the Reapers are gone into dark space.
I can see a nullification sentence during the opening title sequence, for as much as it seems they want to go back and give people a Mass Effect 1 style experience I also think they want to ignore Mass Effect 3 as much as possible.
1) Control could have the Reaper leaving for Dark Space after sharing their knowledge they have gathered across all that time or at the very least something like a Prothean Archive.
2) Synthesis could be mentioned that they no longer notice its effects and nobody has moved forward with AI research.
3) Destruction could be simply mentioned as they cleaned up after the war and it didn't take as long as expected because all the races came together after the war.
Well, because when they made the Shepard Trilogy it was planned that Mass Effect would just be a trilogy. Mass Effect 3 was planned to be the last game, but shortly afterwords that plan was changed. That's also why they made the choices in ME3 so widespread since at first they thought they wouldn't have to be worked with. So this trip isn't mentioned in ME3 because at the time there was no such trip.
I did a quick Google search and it seems they have plans to continue Mass Effect after Mass Effect 3. From this Article in August 2011 it was said that...
"Not at all no," says Bioware CEO Dr. Ray Mazuka when we put the question to him at Gamescom this year. "We have ambitious plans to continue this franchise going forward. Mass Effect 3 is simultaneously a couple of different things; a thrilling and epic conclusion to the trilogy as we promised our fans we'd provide for Commander Shepard, but it's also a brand new beginning – it's an entry point for new fans and it's also a brand new beginning."
Even if you are right and it changed during the development of Mass Effect 3, that is still early enough to change the endings if the idea was to obliterate the universe only because they weren't making a sequel.
My theory is they had no idea what to do with the Reaper because they made them too powerful and when creating them had no idea what to do to defeat them.
None, that is the whole point of heading off to Andromeda after all, a fresh start unencumbered by all the baggage & controversy from the trilogy.

Most games usually tend to create tougher challenges to the main characters to beat, like ME trilogy did (Geth,Collectors and Reapers).
But the question is.What could be worse than Reapers? Are we going to see creatures even more overpowered than them? To a fantasy universe it wouldn't be hard, but to a Sci-Fi universe where laws of physics and closure to reality matter,I don't think that's actually going to work. (unless of course,Bioware decides to make ME Universe look more like Star Wars,Warhammer or some comic book Universe.Which in this case,I would stop playing Mass Effect for the rest of my life and go back to my Killzone).

but a chinese website translate old news,i don't know where is the original eng post :

& N7 day trailer tell us,they send some body running away from Milky Way,shepard still there.
Its before ME3 start,but after ME2.
& after ME:A story start, reaper came to Milky Way.
So that why no canon effect,& no time for shepard to think about what happen in Andromeda.

wait wait wait wait wait...
So ME:A is not in the future? It's before ME3 events and after ME2?
Well,I guess that makes the story much more reliable.
It's bad though,I would really like to see ME Universe hundreds or even a thousand years after ME trilogy events...

That is the benefit as I see it to moving to a new galaxy as well for there are new threats for our new protagonist for they don't have to make a tougher threat for Shepard or wondering why these guys are attacking the Milky Way after we defeated the all powerful Reapers.

The way I take that quote is we leave Earth prior to Mass Effect 3, but on the timeline it happens after because of the time it takes to travel to Andromeda.

this is N7 day trailer :

Shepard said :
“We are travelers, constantly moving forward, and looking back. Alone and as one,”
Jennifer Hale’s Commander Shepard says in the video.
”We have no choice but to try for our insatiable curiosity, for our fear in what should happen if we don’t. You are the explorer now.”
We have no choice but to try.......for our fear in what should happen if we don’t.
that means before ME3 reaper came, but after me2.
& after MEA start, after the explorer running away reaper came to earth.

maybe this is the only way to start MEA story.
if you choose after ME3 timeline, you have to take care about canon effect,& what happen to me3 old pal & other.
with after me2 but before me3 timeline,we can "cut off" all thing about canon, old pal & all of them.
& start all new story
As I pointed out earlier, the only characters confirmed not to be in the game are the major characters. They never said anything about minor characters and have also tweeted there will be familiar faces.

"That actually will be our goal with the whole trilogy. To take all of the things you've done in Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 and then just let it go. Let it diverge into wildly different conclusions."
Though yes it's quite clear in retrospect they had no frakking clue what they were doing

I agree with the ending we go they had no clue to how to wrap up the Shepard Trilogy, but I don't think they were planning on stopping the franchise.

Yeah,I guess it could be,and it also could imply that ME:A could happen during a short time after ME3 events, some decades or even few years (I actually have no idea how much time would be needed to travel to Andromeda using mass effect cores).
But it has too. Then why we weren't notified about it in the trilogy? Such a project won't stay secret.
While thinking about this thread,I was also wondering about an important issue...
The Reapers were responsible for the deaths of thousands of civillizations, which that's why it was impossible for them to evolve long enough to become smarter and stronger than them.
As far as I know, the Reapers only acted inside the Milky Way,so it could mean that the other races that lived in Andromeda were able to evolve and become more powerful.
So the way I see,it means that there is a large possibility that we could find a lot of powerful factions like the Galactic Empire from Star Wars or even god-like creatures like the Forerunners from Halo.
I just hope I'm wrong...I hate Halo and Star Wars...
None we are starting over.

It seemed like they might have planned on prequels or sidequels, but the response to that wasn't very positive.
Given the endings, I do not believe they planned on moving forward at all.
What about people like Matsuo, Lizbeth, or Anaya? Always alive and not overexposed. Wouldn't rule out Hackett or Liara cameos via recording.
