Well, we known the protagonist is a human male or female, and that's it. The Ryder is just a theory, and the leak mentioned he won't be an proven soldier like Shepard.
The guy from the trailer is said to not be the main character, but for me we are going to be so much like him that it really doesn't matter. You could well consider he is the protagonist.
The protagonist is called the 'pathfinder', a job that comes with an emblem and everything. He/she has a jetpack.
Speculation: he/she is born in dark space.
