So I'm watching something on tv which I found interesting. It's basically a 1k year old city bigger than Paris or London in the middle of the United States. It sprung up and disappeared over the course of about a century.

Surrounding this city is a mystery.

Who built it? When? Why? etc. Until eventually they use some modern tech to reveal it's secrets.

Considering our own age as a species and the age of a galaxy, the idea that we may come across a similar mystery is not so far fetched. Perhaps we find something while colonising that develops into a nice little side quest that see's you discover a small piece of forgotten history and solve a mystery nobody knew existed.

Or an extinct people who never made it off world and fell victim to overpopulation, climate change or biological warfare.

I think little things like this would help add depth to your surroundings and might even open the door for some interesting dialogue choices.

Just a thought.

I literally have nothing better to talk about right now and I don't know if there's a thread about it anywhere.

Oh and the people that built that city in America where worshipping a sun god or the sun as a god or something.

Maybe we'll discover an ancient society of Elcors. One can only dream.

They have something similar in Stellaris, where you might scan some planets and discover remnants of million year old galactic empires or a dead atomic age civilization. There is a funny bug in Stellaris where it will generate duplicate system, so I found a duplicate Sol system where all the planets were in order except Earth. Earth was just a wasteland and in the description it said that the civilization that was there has been destroyed by nuclear war, I found that pretty funny.

I really loved this part of Stellaris, where you discover remnants of dead civilizations and you get to research what happen to them. I would love something like that in Andromeda too.

Just finished watching a documentary about the Hittites (English name for their empire really is weird...) and their ancient, 3 thousand year old city, the base of the empire.

Turns out, they were defeated not by a foreign foe, but by fratricide.

But yes, I agree with the Krogan. Ancient civilizations and finding out about them would make for an interesting side story arc.

Well these guys were sacrificing virgins and warring among themselves before a flood wiped them out.

Which is fairly interesting as a brief intro to who they were from where I sit.

It was nice and I thought it would make for something nice in the game.

That's a nice idea, but I'd hope they wouldn't go for a clichéd Indiana Jones Aztec theme.

I feel that way with the Protheans, if you look at them from a human standpoint they're very mysterious.  Not for the asari like, but you know.  Kinda.

Given that ME has referenced dead civilizations countless times before, I wouldn't be surprised if you ran into ruins in ME1.

Hell, even DAO had you run around in Tevinter ruins or dwarven ruins half the time.

"Along the way, you will encounter the remains of a once powerful and mysterious alien race, the Remnant, whose forgotten technology holds the key to gaining power in this region of the galaxy."

"As you uncover who the Remnant were, and the mysteries their ruins contain, you are drawn into a violent race to find the source of their forgotten technology that will determine the fate of humanity."

They may be the new reapers. But who knows.

Actually Remnants story sounds very similar to the Protheans from the original trilogy like finding their artifacts, dig sites and etc.

we can only assume at this point. Sure the remnants are mysterious. But we know nothing about their origin yet. Are they like the protheans or forunners? We'll see. Maybe they come back. Maybe they are like the galactic white walkers. That's what I meant.

Yes! Anything that makes exploration more interesting.

Because apparently we're getting a lot of it *fakes shocked expression*

"Ruins" on Ilos remain one of my favourite areas, so there's also that.

Well, given that Andromeda doesn't have the reapers, one would have to assume that there would be ancient civilizations warring with each other for dominance.  Maybe, perhaps we can meet one of the Remnant, and they are simply hiding away on an unchecked world, planning for their re-emergence.

Hmmm.   I like it.

Identified Ancient Races in the MW - Could they have Andromeda roots?

"The Arthenn flourished across multiple worlds in the Zelene system some 300,000 years ago."

"The Inusannon were a spacefaring race that existed at least 127,000 years ago. Little is known about them except that they warred with another race, the thoi'han, over colonization rights to the garden world Eingana, and that they inhabited Ilos at some point."

At least these ancient space-faring races could have ancient ruins, or still exist, in Andromeda. This could extend MW canon, no sweat.

Doubt it. Who knows how many ruins Andromeda has or what kind of species could be hidden.

I like this idea.

I loved exploring Ilos, and as long as the Remnant, or whatever species that no longer exists in Andromeda aren't too derivative of the Protheans, I can't see this being a problem, since exploration seems to be a cornerstone of the Mass Effect Andromeda experience given what we know.

Its also a neat way to convey a truly alien civilization based on what they left behind, which is definitely what Ilos evoked I would argue.

El Dorado and Troy were some of the inspirations for Ilos, and there are numerable other historical examples that they can draw influence from. Atlantis? (scratch that, Rapture), but yeah I could easily see this sort of thing play into exploring a planet and learning more about some of the species, alive or not, of Andromeda.

I'd like to see a rogue planet with alien ruins. Maybe they were a pre-FTL spaceflight species whose planet was thrown out of its system by a passing brown dwarf. All you find left are the frozen ruins of their civilization, possibly a few mummified corpses huddled near the last barely functioning fusion reactor for warmth.

Unless the remnants never developed space flight your assertion here is completely wrong.

Honestly its not a long post you could have actually read it all.

Hopefully they'd treat them better than they did with the useless pyramids in ME1. Such a wasted opportunity with so much has potential.

I already have visions of DAI star puzzles on each planet that points the way to a piece of tablet with ancient writing...assemble them all to unlock the hidden planet of the Remnant.  That actually wouldn't be half bad, but more likely we'll get that all important codex entry. Yay!
