This is something I don't think we've discussed. So now that we're traveling to Andromeda, there will surely have to be a new currency system or atleast a second one on top of the now credit system. I'm assuming that these new races will have another currency system, or will credits still be a universal currency? It will be interesting in seeing how and if EAware will actually take note of this rather small detail. Or will they hope no one will notice and still utilize the credit as the only currency.

I just had the hilarious image of one lone Bioware employee scanning the threads, they open this one and a look of horror comes over their face.

"WE FORGOT ABOUT REPLACING CREDITS," they yell and run to the rest of the team where chaos ensues and the Mass Effect gameplay trailer will announce the delay to 2018 to replace their extensive credit system.

Just going by logic, why not just a barter system? As far as I know that's how people have mostly exchanged stuff in the past when trading between different cultures or civilizations where their local currency might not have any value in a foreign trade system. People could exchange technology and supplies for other goods or if need be come to an agreement about the relative worth of the different currencies they follow. 

 

We might not even need to depend on currency for acquiring our gear depending on the culture and practices of the alien system if for example it was a service based culture.

 

P.S. Or they could follow a system like Fallout where a commonly occurring material (like bottlecaps) or an ore etc can be considered as a substitute for currency and we can harvest/mine these materials in exchange for goods.

I agree, this will be a whole new universe. The citadel council basically came up with this system. To see races who are outside of the milky way galaxy using it is just silly. I agree with teabaggin krogan that if there is a new system it should be some sort of bargaining system.

"Credits" is an extremely generic name, so that's probably what they'll wind up going with. Although I'll still wind up calling them shekels anyway.

It's not like we'll be walking around with dineros or rubles.

Honestly, it's time for something new as we are in a different galaxy. Not only the currency but even the door concept and etc., should vary a lot.

Within the ARK and among the peoples who came from the Milky Way... credits.  Then, a barter system for exchanging goods and services with Andromedan cultures.

 

Later, perhaps, the Euro.

I hope things like this are sorted out in game. I wouldn't think it very professional of the BioWare writers to just overlook things like this and stick with what they already have.

 

As for the currency itself, I would be satisfied if the Andromedan species have a sort of bank that allows you to exchange credits with their own currency. Perhaps their could be two currencies you can utilise. Credits for on the Ark (which I'm going to assume has some kind of city within it) and one for an Andromedan hub that allows you to purchase items from their own stores, with the ability to exchange each currency for the other.

 

What you could do with this is purchase specific armours for any potential Andromedan species Companions. I doubt the Ark will have facilities that would allow for them to produce gear for those new species, but they would be able to for Humans, Krogan, Turians et cetera. Same for the Andromedans; they'd be able to produce gear for their own kinds, but unlikely for Humans or Krogans or Turians.

An  invest/mission-reward system could be implemented,like with liara terminals in shadow broker dlc, for example you investigate a world, probe it and send it for research or trade, then its up to you if its worth spending your resources on investigating the planet further in hopes for high profit resource(jewels,fuel) . Oh and investing into researching/colonizing the planet would attract raiders, ha getting excited about this space trade ideas
