If you like Mass Effect 1 the areas remind me of Dragon Age Origins except Dragon Age has a few more areas like 5 versus 3 in Mass Effect.

Origins is absolutely worth it. One of the best RPGs ever. 2....not so much, but for story purposes I'd play it anyway before Inquisition(what happens in 2 essentially sets up Inquisition).

Origins is the best of the Dragon Age Trilogy. Epic story and the different origins for your PC give the game a lot of replay value. I liked DA2 a lot, but the third act had problems. Despite its more advanced engine, Inquisition is the weakest of the three. It has its moments, but the massive world created leaves too much room for pointless meandering.

I cannot comment on DA2 or Inquisition, but Origins is definitely worth it. Great RPG for people who really like to role-play. It is, together with The Bard's Tale and Baldur's Gate - Shadows of Amn, at the top of my list. Mass Effect is great as well, i am just not so much into sci-fi settings...

Maaaaaaybe hold off on downloading DA2 for a week or so, depending on your platform. There's been some talk of an XB1-compatible Dragon Age 2 being announced at E3.

I'd pass from DA2/DAI if I were you, but do what you will.

If you are expecting something in the lines of Mass Effect, forget it. Despite being games from the same period, they are, essentially, different kind of games.
But, if you don't mind it, by all means! I would recommend, though, that you play Dragon Age Origins only. Dragon age 2 is pretty mediocre.

As one who is more focused on characters, I'm always drawn to Dragon Age more because they are just more dynamic here. You get more options and get to affect their dispositions more, which can change the feel of the game considerably. By comparison, ME's characters feel stifling in that they act largely the same no matter what you do, unless of course you can get them killed. Also, the protagonists in each game are all smarter than Shepard, so that's a plus.

But DAO ftw!

Origins is one of my favorite games of all time. Honestly, it's probably worth it even at 100 dollars.

I was hesitant to try DAO. I loved Mass Effect and wasn't a fan of fantasy RPGs. But I would say that in a few ways, DAO is better than the ME games.
I personally liked DA2 despite the flaws and hate. It definitely can be tedious as hell, but it has some great character moments. I'm currently on DAI and I find it to be a beautiful and addictive game.

Absolutely. Despite it's flaws, it's my favorite game of all time. Ask yourself this:
- Do you like a game in which the main character is treated as chuck Norris, the video game version?
- Do you like a game which has fantastic voice acting?
- do you like a game with well written dialogue?

If you enjoy fantasy RPGS, then yes. If you like “grown up” RPGS with choices, interesting characters and storyline, character options and moments where you have to pause to think about the best way forward, then even more so. I'm nowhere near completing it, but I think it's my second favourite RPG after Fallout: New Vegas.
I played the living f:Dck out of new vegas.
