Maybe a few animals of each species (Mainly domesticated animals), but not for the purpose of eating (At least not until they have a colony) since growing animals in a ship is very expensive and consumes very valuable and limited resources. You can bet they'll bring pet animals (Cats, dog, pyjaks, birds, fish, etc.) aboard.

I don't think varrens could help in sustaining the population (or any other animals for that matter), but they've become kind of iconic animals of ME, so I'd expect krogans to take them. Actual form is irrelevant, even clones from DNA samples would grow up in a matter of months.
Someone could take Thresher Maw spores, just to say big "screw you" to andromedians, but I think Ark will have some IQ requirements, so such people wouldn't pass.

I have to like aliens to play this game? That's a requirement now LOL. I was intrigued by Cerberus ever since the small tidbits you find out about them in ME 1. The advancement of humanity as a whole and there struggles to become relevant is also interesting for the ME universe. There are many reasons to play this game, aliens isn't the only one. To me they're boring, sure there's few that peek my interest; like aria and the geth as a whole. Please, Krogan aren't even challenging to kill in the games; charge claymore to the face, simple. I'd be more afraid of catching a disease on that planet than the Krogan that inhabit it.
