ME1 and ME2 always depicted the PC as male in the promotional arts/videos,and ME3 used MaleShep as the cover boy 80% of the time.

Women were never respected and seen as equal as they are now,and the feminist movement is now, stronger than ever.I think it would be a nice change if Bioware decides to show the main character more as female than male this time, you know, just so we could see a diversified main character as the cover of the promotional arts, not just another "cheesy white dude"

Didn't they reveal that the character on the cover of DA:I was female?

They'll probably do something like they did with DA: I in regards to promotions. There they used a default male as the cover boy in the CGI trailers and used a default female in the gameplay and dlc trailers.

Diversity would be having both, not just one.

There's pretty much no way this thread is going to go to a good place, so I figure I'd just point that out.

If it needs a "reveal" and you can't readily tell, then it doesn't count.

but that is a pretty good way of doing it.

It still lets you have a "mascot" for the game that is an identifiable character but also reflects the idea that the player gets to customize the character in a sense.

They also used a female character for the benchmark test on the PC.

All I'll say for now is that I agree with the OP with having a female PC on the cover/digital download art. However, I'd prefer a symbol or just the armor or something and avoid all the drama. I liked that for NWN/DA:O and a more anonymous look like in DA:I

Speaking of which OP, you might grab a flame suit. I'm not sure if you realized it or not, but you just blew up an oil well on the forums. Good luck.

I'm going to dodge around the gender politics and say that Bioware shouldn't show the protagonist on the cover. Having a single iconic protagonist appear in the marketing material is misleading for those not already aware that Mass Effect features character customization, and having multiple "iconic" protagonists is a bit odd. The potential alternatives for use in marketing material include, but are not limited to:

1. Showing the villain
2. Showing an important symbol
3. Showing a cool landscape

I'd rather have the box art move units instead of pleasing vocal minorities.

How about you change the game cover over to the female side. And maybe they should make two of every trailer one with man, one with woman. That way everybody is happy. There's is nothing wrong with women's rights or independence but radical feminist...... all they wanna do is bust a man's balls. Makes them no better than sexist men. That doesn't sit well with me. So let's keep it equal. Sure the males are the majority but I'm not against women in the spotlight. Just keep it friendly and equal. Equality is the way things should be. That's my idealistic view.

I disagree. I think it best to have a cover leaving the protag gender anonymous or using a flip cover. That way everybody happy.

And of course the female cover model will have to have long hair, be nude, and kissing another woman in the shower....

Lol.

The cover art model is not the determinant of whether women are being respected in the game. Since BW's concurrent intent is to open the game to a wider audience, I think it's more important that the cover art and trailers (several different kinds, I hope) bring excitement and an example of the action (not gender issues) in the new game.

Edit:  I encourage the writers to empower women's roles in the game.

I just wish FemShep would have looked like Ashley! Now if we can just get some luxurious brunette shoulder-length hair styles....

I would enjoy a male version of this cover as well...

Anyway,Draining Dragon gave an awesome idea. Why show the main character in CGIs and artworks if he/she is a fully customizable character? they could simply show important characters, like companions, villains or even random NPCs.

If I remember it right,Halo Reach is the only Halo game that allows the player to customize the main character, and that's the reason why Bungie never showed the "default PC" in any CGI or promotional art.

Maybe Bioware should just follow the same path, but still,I would really like to see the default PC in the promotional arts and CGIs as the female default character.

Although, since most part of the players are male,I can hardly see this happening...

Meh,not much.

I'm just a realistic person, and this kind of talk can be very...problematic.

So I will just be here trying to find a viable way to show my opinion without people trying to kill me...

Plus the vast majority of ME3 players played M!Shep according to statistics.

Okay.....I see where this is going.

Not touching it.

There are some females who played as male. I gotta remember to play as a female.in the next game. That's something I never did in the orig tril.

A) We did see a strong female Shepard in the ME3 marketing last time - though she could certainly have been featured more - and B) there was a female Inquisitor feature in marketing and in some of the trailers. As I recall, the trailer for the final DA:I DLC had the femQuisitor in it, so it's not like they haven't been trying.

At any rate, it would certainly be nice if they featured the female version of the new protagonist in ME:A marketing more than they have in the past, but I'm not sure you'll actually see some sort of 50-50 split between the male and female versions in ads, etc.
