I'll confess that I'd rather they avoid any "badass" poses, which is actually one of the reasons why I wouldn't want the protagonist at the forefront. To me that screams Generic Action Hero in Generic Action Franchise. I'd rather have a more "quiet," awesome scene. In the literal meaning of the word awesome.
But truth be told, I don't find covers to be terribly important, so even if I don't end up liking it it won't be a big deal.
I hear ya. Another idea I had was having a character with their back to the audience, staring at an alien landscape. When it comes to covers, not a big deal to me either. How they treat the female character in the months to come with conventions and the like means a little more. <shrug>
