Equality is key.A) We did see a strong female Shepard in the ME3 marketing last time - though she could certainly have been featured more - and
there was a female Inquisitor feature in marketing and in some of the trailers. As I recall, the trailer for the final DA:I DLC had the femQuisitor in it, so it's not like they haven't been trying.
At any rate, it would certainly be nice if they featured the female version of the new protagonist in ME:A marketing more than they have in the past, but I'm not sure you'll actually see some sort of 50-50 split between the male and female versions in ads, etc.
a female PC in the promotional art just for a change?

They should make a promo art of the female PC choking a male character. I'm sure it'll get lots of praise.
We've had threads literally about romancing the Mako.
So I'm sure somebody around here is into that.

Radical feminist? I know there are male douchebags, I butt heads with people like that all the time, out there but don't judge all men as scoundrels. You're missing out. They should make a promo art of the female PC choking a male character. I'm sure it'll get lots of praise.

As far as we know. I don't think that's going to be the main character's MO, but we are dealing with politics in a BW game. There's always some sort of corrupt politician that's going to have a hidden agenda. I wouldn't be surprised if the PC was going to explore some planet and it turned out they were used as a front for conquest.

Maybe some xenophobic guy like Illusive Man but that's not how we do things anymore. We aren't savage Europeans. All the races are in this expedition together. As far as we know. They probably have their own civilizations. But I want to know the Khet's motives for fighting us. Maybe they're savage. In a galaxy as big as Andromeda there is plenty of space. Sure we are foreign but there's no reason we can't be civilized. If we left MW during Reaper War it would make sense. We are fleeing for survival. I like that a lot more but leaving for the sake of exploration and adventure is cool too.Of course we are.
We'll be "bringing" civilization to them.

Diversity would be having both, not just one.
There's pretty much no way this thread is going to go to a good place, so I figure I'd just point that out.
This.
I'm going to dodge around the gender politics and say that Bioware shouldn't show the protagonist on the cover. Having a single iconic protagonist appear in the marketing material is misleading for those not already aware that Mass Effect features character customization, and having multiple "iconic" protagonists is a bit odd. The potential alternatives for use in marketing material include, but are not limited to:
1. Showing the villain
2. Showing an important symbol
3. Showing a cool landscape
And this, a hundred percent. We've seen countless successful franchises do the exact same (Elder Scrolls especially, regarding the important symbols), and each one has never been hated on, as far as I know. I see no reason why Bioware could not do the same, with maybe placing something like the Arkcon logo (if it turns out to be relevant enough) on the cover?
I know I definitely wouldn't complain if they dodged placing the protagonist on the cover. I never played as John Shepard, so it's semi-irrelevant having him on my cover, although it doesn't really bother me, personally.

That's stops human/mortal nature...how, exactly? The races of the MW may be all in this together, but since when has that prevented power grabs? If anything, I can see it being worse because all of the races are going to want their own home. Certain races will see this as a chance to gain more power in the wake of so much change. There will be fights over eezo and other resources. Folks are going to start looking for their own planets to set up base from. The Quarians showed that a race can't survive and thrive on a ship forever. Xenophobia aside, a place to set roots and call their own is pretty important to people even in ME.Maybe some xenophobic guy like Illusive Man but that's not how we do things anymore. We aren't savage Europeans. All the races are in this expedition together.
The Asari councillor is my example of a politician looking out for themselves and their race when the entire galaxy is in peril. The races should have been in that all together, but it didn't stop the various leaders from picking fights and avoiding the main issues.
I'm sure there will be more diplomacy in the future, and I'm sure that the general populous would be against violence. Still, I don't think mortals will ever evolve beyond wanting power and prestige or even just security for themselves. It isn't just the TIM's of the setting either that would do that. Whether it be in a more gentle manner or in direct conflict, the races are going to start wanting to establish their own homes.
Desperation is a helluva thing. You don't have to have hatred or even a desire for power to do immoral acts. Some would think less like TIM and more like Ash. The whole, "You'd save yourself over your dog's" speech. I don't think Ashley would be the only person in the ME-verse to feel that way, regardless of species. Even for some of the native races we are likely to run into.
C'mon, you know that BW wouldn't be able to resist a quest or two about political corruption. A politician or even a few using the player to forcibly take over a planet/colony is pretty standard for BW.
Wow, I'm way off topic. Sorry about that.

There is symbolism in showing a protagonist. It is your story. You are that person. Who you see on that cover is you. They can have their default face but they should leave the protag on cover anonymous. That may be the way to go. Should they keep mask on in trailer or make two of every trailer? It's a tricky dilemma.This.

And I've never used Sheploo

My point is that we are not going to conquer the Andromedan races worlds. We are just looking for a new home. Besides we don't have the warships and fleets to do it anyway. We're like refugees. That's stops human/mortal nature...how, exactly? The races of the MW may be all in this together, but since when has that prevented power grabs? We don't have the resources and we're not savages. We are going for exploration and a new home. It's different from the colonialism that we've know for thousands of years. And it's on a much larger scale. This is extragalactic travel. Reinforcements would take years and our mission for a new home would be done before it even began. If they have their own civilization they have loot.
They must be conquered.
