They must be conquered.
You think we'll be playing as a Munchkin, then?

There is symbolism in showing a protagonist. It is your story. You are that person. Who you see on that cover is you. They can have their default face but they should leave the protag on cover anonymous. That may be the way to go. Should they keep mask on in trailer or make two of every trailer? It's a tricky dilemma.
That is a notable solution, actually, and a valid point. If John had been wearing his N7 breather mask, it would have most likely resolved the "that's not my Shepard!" dilemma, not including the colour of his armour and the pieces that he's wearing.
Still, that leaves the female/male problem up in the air, although that could potentially be remedied if they did as they had with Mass Effect 3's cover, and placed a female and male protagonist on either side of the cover that the player may switch to, if they so please.

We don't have the resources and we're not savages. We are going for exploration and a new home. It's different from the colonialism that we've know for thousands of years. And it's on a much larger scale. This is extragalactic travel. Reinforcements would take years and our mission for a new home would be done before it even began.
Exactly, we're lacking resources.
So we conquer them and take their stuff.
You think we'll be playing as a Munchkin, then?
I'm mostly thinking that decades of playing video games has taught me that as long as I'm saving the galaxy I can pretty much do whatever I want.
I would enjoy a male version of this cover as well...
Anyway,Draining Dragon gave an awesome idea. Why show the main character in CGIs and artworks if he/she is a fully customizable character? they could simply show important characters, like companions, villains or even random NPCs.
If I remember it right,Halo Reach is the only Halo game that allows the player to customize the main character, and that's the reason why Bungie never showed the "default PC" in any CGI or promotional art.
Maybe Bioware should just follow the same path, but still,I would really like to see the default PC in the promotional arts and CGIs as the female default character.
Although, since most part of the players are male,I can hardly see this happening...
That makes one of us.
I don't need to see either one of those variations on the cover. Everything can't be a vehicle for making up for perceived lost time or settling up with Hollywood et al over under representation of the LGBT community. It's inconceivable to me actually that nobody even for one second tapped one of these casting supervisors or whatever on the shoulder and suggested that it's an even bigger insult to suddenly have 8 out of 10 people in every story be gay. Or to gay up characters that really have no need whatsoever to be gay and who gain nothing in development or depth by retrofitting them with gay qualities. Nothing looks more stupid than a character or characteristic of a character completely out of context and clearly dropped in just so nobody can say it wasn't.
I meant we don't have the fleets. We don't conquer. We are not the bad guys.Exactly, we're lacking resources.

I rather there be no main character on the cover art or in any trailers. Seeing two of the same trailers was idiotic for Inquisition and ME3. I'm sick of people crying because the female protag wasn't on the cover art or in trailers. You can play female in the game, that should be the only thing that actually matters. So this time around I'm just hoping EAware use the Ark logo or something to slap on the box art and use companions in the trailers; not the protag, that way there will be no whining about it. This world is becoming more sensitive everyday, everyone has to be included and represented in everything these days or it's racist, sexist, or homophobic ![]()

If not by conquering, how do we loot everything that isn't bolted down and on fire?

you make an interesting point but the reason they put a protag on the cover is because it's symbolic. It represents the protag. It's their story. All the more reason to have that loot, so we can kill our enemies.

There are great games where the protag isn't on the box, it's not necessary. They did it with ME2 collector edition they can do it with MEA

If I remember right Mass Effect 3 collector's edition also just had the N7 logo on it.
I expect they will do what the did w/ DA:I and show prominently the male protagonist in the official vids, etc and the female in the fan stuff. Of course the Trespasser DLC for DA:I featured the female Inquisitor and oddly enough the world didn't end.
Was anyone on the cover of FO:NV?
Yeah there was, but rather it was the protag or not you couldn't tell.

It was just somebody wearing the NCR ranger trenchcoat and mask with a revolver

Similar sort of expectations. The male Space Marine is still bigger for marketing, but Bioware is well aware of how diverse its fanbase is so I do expect some smaller bits of marketing for the female lead. Like Trespasser even Bethesda used the female lead for the first time in the Far Harbor DLC, which is nice to see. Kind of shows the growing interest in female protagonists across the board. Its a growing base and certainly won't be ignored.

Bethesda used a launch trailer that featured both male and female voice actors going back and forth between each line. The footage itself also goes back and forth.
I think right now at least it's also a bit of a marketing gimmick to "show how progressive" you are because you're not just making it all male characters, even though RPGs in particular have allowed you to play as a female character for decades.
Nope. We are male. We will never surrender.ME1 and ME2 always depicted the PC as male in the promotional arts/videos,and ME3 used MaleShep as the cover boy 80% of the time.
Women were never respected and seen as equal as they are now,and the feminist movement is now, stronger than ever.I think it would be a nice change if Bioware decides to show the main character more as female than male this time, you know, just so we could see a diversified main character as the cover of the promotional arts, not just another "cheesy white dude"
My preferred approach would be cover art without recognizable gender, like in DAI, and trailer like fallout 4 with both genders. I was very happy in DAI that in the official site it was clear you could play both genders and the various races.
Nope. We are male. We will never surrender.
We can not be ruled, challenge us and you will face destruction ahah
Challenge them and you'll be sleeping on the couch for a month.
I swear I must be the only person who didn't care that Sheploo was on the cover art of ME1 and 2. I got Collector's edition for 3 so its got both FemShep and Sheploo on there.
And I've never used Sheploo
OK..glup....Challenge them and you'll be sleeping on the couch for a month.
