Except...those are not official covers for Origins. These are (and both feature the Warden, blood, and a dragon):

If you want to prove a point, you shouldn't use fan made material.

Huh, could have sworn the ones posted by 9TailsFox were actual ones.

It's interesting that they did use a ambigous character on the covers you posted although I think Inquisition did the ambigous character better and had a cover that stood out more;
http://assets.vg247....nquisition1.jpg

You have the dark and dreary ruins and the character standing beneath a descending horde of abominable creatures. The character is holding a burning sword while a dragon of green energy manifest from their hand and holds back the tide of evil with it's wings even framing the horde. If you look closely at the mouth of the dragon, it even looks like it is holding one of the creatures in it's mouth while the others are trying to climb past the dragon.

Badass and symbolic of Dragon Age: Inquisition's plot. It's a very awesome and fitting front cover, in my opinion.

Coincidentally, I love the recurring motif of a dragon on the Dragon Age covers especially since they are different dragons if I remember correctly.

Anyone else feels that the digital age is making covers obsolete/useless? When thinking of a game, I see a logo or a symbol instead of the cover. In fact, despite owning and playing all the DA games and Fallout games, I noticed that i had never seen the cover of most of them.

That's odd, since Origin's website and launcher clearly show you covers. With Steam it's possible, since they do logos, GOG makes cropped/rearranged covers, but Origin always shows the full one. You had to see it at one point.

Chances are it will be gender neutral, much like Dragon Age: Inquisition was.

@Shechinah

I'm pretty sure, that's the first time I see those, and both the digital and physical copies have those covers I've posted (or the one with Awakening bundled, but it looks similar).

The cover for Inquisition ended up looking really good. The dragons could reference different ones in the game, but the ones for 2 and DAI seem to be more symbolic than anything. But it's safe to assume the next one will also have a dragon.

Concerning MEA - I hope EA marketing doesn't wrangle them into a cover they don't want. A symbol, Mako, or both protagonists on the same cover are good options, but if they would decide to have a female protagonist, there's absolutely no reason not do it.

lol! I was poking fun at the outrage over the X men movie poster that showed the villain choking Mystique.

That's odd considering the third opinion is far more about equality than the first two. One wants to appease the crazy MRA/SJW crowd who cares so heavily about what's between a character's legs on a cover art, it's not entirely a bad thing, it'll at least get them to shut up (depending on how they are depicted, since they care so much about that too), and the second opinion just wants to avoid it altogether perhaps out of that same fear/appeasement et al.

The day people stop giving a rat's a** about gender, race et al is the moment we'll have true equality.

I was joking too. I never saw the new x men movie. Heard it was crap.

It's just that almost every game shows the main character in the game's cover. That's why it can mislead.

Speaking of which,DA:O has a very nice cover! ME:A really should do the same thing and use an important character of the game as the cover boy/girl.

But as I said, just not some default main character or it can easily mislead most of the people who see the cover.

Besides,it's much better to imagine your PC instead of having a default one in every promotional art...

but would showing an important character not also confuse people?

I mean if people thought you couldn't customize your character in Skyrim how is showing Morrigan any better? There's nothing on either cover denoting that the Nord guy is the PC and Morrigan isn't.

That would imply you have additional knowledge of the game which you always should have before purchasing a game but if you do, then you shouldn't be getting confused about character creation based on the cover.

It's not bad, I liked it, perhaps even more than Civil War. But it's just my opinion, even if its not the "popular" one.

Even worse then, can't you see?

Stop choosing any cynical Geese Howard as an argument you have to refute :D

Spoiler

Eh? That is not worst that is just the true. We do not know how overlap the statistics are or how they correlate to marketing. How many dollars where spend on the maleShep over the femaleShep, and how much time over the trilogy? We cannot compare the two just because there is a number that says 18% played FemShep in ME3.

Curious, here.

Why do you say "cheesy"? Is the statement " white male" offensive? too much for you?

On the other hand, marketing may have numbers you don't have.  Marketing's number one goal is to make sales.  Now, how can you possibly argue with that goal?

Ah... you mean the PC will have a helmet.  I think the cover art will have both genders. Cover art for marketing purposes is designed to attract, imply, suggest.

Speculation: cover art will include single male, single female and possibly humans with alien companions.

Though once you have an Origin game installed, you don't ever need to see the cover again unless you're reinstalling or buying DLC.As opposed to a disc game where you probably see the box a lot.

If it needs a "reveal" and you can't readily tell, then it doesn't count.

Dragon Age actually was always a game where you couldn't visibly tell the gender of a character in full plate armor. So, yeah. I think it's only ever the medium and light armors in DA that have visible gender characteristics. Plate armor does the smart thing and doesn't weaken its structural integrity to remind you that boobs exist.

I think if they just applied Mass Effect 3's gender-interchangable cover and marketing more consistently they'd please everyone, or as many people as can be pleased, anyway. I like being able to flip my cover around to show FemShep, and I enjoyed the additional trailers.

Also, Origin lets you swap in custom covers for your game library, so you actually can switch in FemShep. I have custom ME2 and ME3 covers that make them look similar to the ME1 cover, and a red-and-white, left-handed 'shop of the Inquisition cover that makes it fit in with the other two covers.

I have the Deluxe version of both ME2 and ME3 on Origin, so I didn't even knew those were the "original" covers, mine just says N7. :P Never had a problem with it.

Well, yeah, but as you said, once you have it installed. It's the never part that confused me, when you buy it, you can't miss the cover. Also, with a physical copy you also don't need to see it after you have installed it, since Origin treats everything as a digital copy.
