It depends on your group.
I once got a Reinhardt and Soldier 76 pushing through the middle which made my job as Tracer so much easier.
Most of the time though, everyone wants to be the cyborg ninja so I play Reaper.

Really? I've never had a problem with those people. I just get my D.Va to get her ultimate unlocked, use her shield to absorb all their shots then activate the boosters into their line as I eject and activate the ultimate. That leaves me in a new mech and their defense line completely gone.

I have the game, but I'm sticking with AI practice mode at the moment.
I'm very bad with Mercy, I think.
But that's normal for me at the early stages of playing any game like this. Unfortunately, people keep leaving during practice so I'm spending a lot of time just moving between sessions. Do some people tend to take AI mode as seriously as the competitive one?
Any tips? I've gone through the shooting range, and I keep testing abilities in that area with all the moving robots, but Mercy's abilities are so support based that it seems hard to test them out with just her alone.

You could also spend five minutes on each map and figure out where the different routes are and where the health packs are, but you can always figure that out in pvp as well.

I've seen too many useless McCrees to believe he needs to be nerfed although putting a cooldown on Fan The Hammer would have been the way to go IMO.

As Mercy you want to stick with someone who can protect you.
Mei is a good choice since she's strong against the offence heroes that will zone in on you and the other is Pharah since you can keep following her into the air and buffing her damage.
Of course this is assuming they'll look after you.
If you're still learning the ropes though, try a bunch of different heroes but Soldier 76 is always a good start for beginners.
If you get to grips with placing walls, Mei is a lot of fun and capable of making an entire team rage.

That's two for each role besides Support where it's just the one.
Reasons:
Soldier: 76 is a good all rounder. He has a heal. You can stay at range and you have an escape (sprint). His Helix Rockets also take down larger threats really well. His ultimate as well is a really simple one to use. Activate it and hold down the trigger. Easy.
McCree is generally a simple one to learn. He has one combo which doesn't take long to master. He can also stay at range dealing a decent amount of damage. Flashbang can help both in team fights and dealing with players that are trying to flank you. Your ultimate is a little more tricky than Soldier: 76's but it's not a huge deal. Even if it doesn't outright kill, it still does a lot of damage.
Junkrat is a pretty good and simple defensive hero, though you can do some really next level stuff with him as well. His grenade launcher does a lot of damage and you don't really need to aim it. Your traps also help deal with flankers, and they can also act as escape tools. There are a lot of ways you can play Junkrat. His ultimate is also really simple as well. There isn't much to it.
Mei is great for dealing with flankers and even getting into the thick of things. You have a heal that also makes you invulnerable to all damage, and a wall that blocks a ton of damage. There are also few heroes that can outright counter you, so you generally have an easy time. The ultimate is also great for team fights. Just throw it out and let it do it's job.
Winston is a pretty decent tank. You have a great escape/engage tool and a giant dome shield to block a fair amount of damage. You also don't have to really aim your gun, and it also takes out traps and Symmetra's turrets really easily. You do have to utilise the health packs on the map though, but with your jump it shouldn't be too difficult to get in and out of fights. The ultimate does need to be timed right though. It does make you even more tankier, but you are also more of a target and can be brought down quickly.
Reinhardt is another great tank. Just keep your shield up and push forward with your team. You have a charge which, if it connects, can kill all but tanks instantly. You can send out a flaming projectile that damages all in it's path which is pretty good for dealing with grouped up enemies. Your ultimate also knocks down all enemies in front of you, allowing you to take out at least a few of them or escape if you really must. Besides his firestrike, he has no real range capability whatsoever though.
Lucio is really the strongest support right now and that's down to his kit. His heal/speed boost is aoe and you can still fire your weapon whilst it does this. You don't really have to worry about much besides dealing some damage and making sure you stick with your team so they can all benefit. His ultimate is also very useful. So long as you use it when engaging the enemy, you will have done right by your team.

I think Genji's Deflect should be buffed by reducing its cool down by one second.
Also, Reaper. When he uses Shadowstep (?) I think damage against him whilst he's immobile should be reduced by 25%. So you would only deal 75% of your damage against him whilst he is immobile. This wouldn't stop single shot headshots from a Hanzo, Widowmaker, Mei et cetera, but it would allow for you to escape should they manage to hit you anywhere but the head.

What platform are you playing on, Arti?
I'm playing on Xbox One, but I think I need to do some more practice before I feel alright throwing myself into the game. MP can be a lot of pressure.
By the way, I think I might really like playing Widowmaker as well. We'll see.

I think they are going to buff her movement speed whilst firing and potentially the damage as well. Up close, it's not too bad. As soon as they start getting away though, the damage fallout is too high.
That all sounds wonderful, considering I have eliminated entire teams pretty much single-handedly with her as she is now.

Disagree with this. Reaper shouldn't be using this while enemies are around.
That said, pull it off and he can wipe out an entire team on his own WITHOUT an ultimate.
Roadhog can be problematic for him though.

Let's say that you use Shadowstep into a group of enemies. Their attacks deal 75% of their damage against you whilst you are immobile. For example, Junkrat deals 100 damage normally. Against you at this current moment, it deals 75 damage. That's still a lot of damage. If he can get just a few grenades on you, you are still going to die. In the middle of a group, you are still going to die.
The buff is more for flanking. You start moving around the side of the map but someone on their team is doing the same. You use Shadowstep and encounter, let's say a Tracer. With the reduced damage, there is more chance you are going to escape and find health and get back into it. It's not meant for getting into the fight and surviving. It's meant for the unforeseen encounter while you are doing your job.

And should unforeseen circumstances arise, Reaper hits hard enough to blast his way out of trouble.

Whilst watching it, I couldn't help but scream internally overy your game. For example, when you first got ultimate. It felt like you were saving it for that one great moment that never really came. When you were trying to solo Reaper, you weren't using your heal or keeping him at range. And then the last minute or so where it felt like your map awareness wasn't on point. You were stuck in that little alley and you managed to get beside the door into a room with a health kit. It's only a small one but doing it would have got you out of the open anyway. Yet you didn't go in.
Of course, I did note you were doing most of the work. 4 gold medals. Just feels like you were off point. Though to be fair, my opinion of you is largely based on what I believe it to be, which is similar to mine; because I haven't actually seen any yet besides this game.

Yes it's recent and I actually agree with all of your criticism.
This team frustrated the hell out of me because we had two Widowmakers who weren't hitting turrets and a Genji who wasn't killing anyone or harassing the enemy so it fell on me to do their jobs for them and push through the initial chokepoint because Reinhardt kept dying.
Nothing frustrates me quite like people not doing their jobs but still refusing to swap heroes.

So, dumb question time. I'm still sticking mostly to AI matches still, so I hopefully avoid causing someone else the kind of frustration you guys are talking about, but I can't even figure out how to say things in this game. When I join a team, other people say "hi" and sometimes "gg," in the corner text. How do I do that?

On Xbox, hold down on the D-Pad and that will bring up a wheel with a few orders like "Group up with me" and "I need healing". It will also let you do things like use your emote or say "hello" and "thanks".
You can't however type a message to the group like you can on PC. It's just one of the limitations unfortunately, though understandable.
