Reaper relies on being unpredictable. Flanking is very important for Reaper, be sure to hide and spring ambushes. Teleport is excellent to get bounce on unsepecting enemies. Note that once you kill an opponent (the opponent dies by your ally) you can "consume" his soul to get health back.
Cheers, love! The Overwatch thread is here!

I really wish this game had a story mode. I love these characters, but I'm still not very good at competitive play.
Reaper is kind of awesome. I wish his abilities were more practical.
But on the other hand, being impractical is part of what makes them so awesome.
Watching the trailers made me think that we need some kind of movie with these characters, or at least some kind of Overwatch spin-off game with a storyline.
Also that I may have to buy this game, because I'm starting to understand the hype. ![]()

I just watched all the cinematic trailers today, in between trying to actually succeed at the MP (I mostly died).
The characters are extremely fun.

With the request for a story mode being extremely high and them putting a hero limit in competitive mode, I could see them possibly doing a story mode in the vein of Left 4 Dead. Six people play on one team against bots and it has a simple story to it. Or six players play on the Hero side and six play on the Villain side(will need to wait for enough villains) and one or both sides has a little story.

What heroes do you mostly play as or favour, and how do you like to play? Let's see if we can figure out what will work best for you.
I started with Genji and Widowmaker being my favoured heroes, however, I soon realised that I'm not all that good with them, so switched to different ones. I now favour Reinhardt and Zarya. The tank roles suits me perfectly, and I still get plenty of medals and even play of the games (mostly as Reinhardt). I've basically got those two heroes down, so can pull them out and do some work if I ever get in a situation where I've fallen behind and can't help my team.
It's all about finding the character that works best for you and using that as a stepping stone.
I first tried Zarya. I wanted a tank with some range, and I liked her shields. After a bit of work, I figured out where she succeeds and where she fails, though I am still figuring things out so I'm in no way a master. Once I got a grip on Zarya, I tried other tank heroes. Heroes that fit the same role are, I think, the next step. If you've found a role that you like and can do well, next is get some versatility.
This led me to try out Reinhardt and Roadhog, respectively. Reinhardt gets a larger shield, but limited range and Roadhog gets no shield but a greater deal of range. And I went from there. Zarya is still my most played in competitive games, but I can still play well as either of those other two. Once D.Va gets her buff, I'll try her as well and bring her into my roster.
It's all about finding the role that works for you. I know you said you wanted to play as a healer when you got the game, but maybe healing isn't where your skills lie. Maybe it's as a tank like me. Maybe it's playing as a hero that favours faster movements (Genji, Tracer). Or maybe it's playing as a hero that can lock down the enemy (Junkrat, Mei).
Find out what you are good at and develop your skills accordingly.
And the good thing now with Competitive out there. Quick Play can be used for learning new heroes without any scrutiny. If you do get someone being a pick, I'll happily harass them back for you.

Also, apologies for the wall of text. I want to help.

He works best as a secondary tank and harassing the enemy's back line but he's also good at shutting down flankers (except Reaper, he will murder you) and snipers.
You just have to be mindful of who you dive on and not to overstay your welcome.
Roadhog and Reaper are the two heroes you want to avoid at all costs as they will both murder you.

Strange, I find Winston the hardest tank to control.

Yeah, I don't like Winston. I'm not a fan of any of his kit.

Granted, he's my second least favourite tank.

You played Genji and Widowmaker originally, of course you're going to hate him.

Winston is probably the easiest hero to play and be effective with.

I like Winston a lot on King of the Hill maps; his ultimate is pretty good for knocking people off the point or off the map altogether, although I wish it did a bit more damage. I do get into trouble with him a lot, though. Sometimes if I'm trying getting away from some enemies I jump, but Winston's jump goes so far that I inadvertently jump into yet another group of enemies. Also, I've brought enemies down to basically one health, only to have to reload and get killed while doing so, way more often than I'd like to admit.
I just watched all the cinematic trailers today, in between trying to actually succeed at the MP (I mostly died).

Well, obviously you should git gud, Artifice.
But if it's any consolation, I'm approaching 400 deaths with Reinhardt, and have a losing record with most characters. All of you MLG gamers out there have to be accumulating those great stats against somebody; that would be me.
Also, I found some pretty cool Overwatch fan art by a digital artist named Miguel Mercado:

Just played a quick game as Tracer. 18 eliminations. 0 deaths.
My card I got at the end was for *drum roll*
106% kill participation.
One hundred and six percent.
Wish I had screenshot it. I was mind blown that by the time I had pressed the button, it was too late.

Hell in my best Reaper games I think I topped out at about 60%.

Or maybe the 'suicide' an enemy did. I was fighting him and he escaped but went off the edge. It didn't count as me killing him, but it gave me 50 or so points towards his death.

Another thing with Reaper: as his escape skill doesn't last very long or go that far, it's best not to stray too far from your team as retreating behind your team is usually the safer option.

Just got a career high 47 eliminations with D.VA (with 2 deaths). Tried out competitive mode, those people don't play around!

Very, very good.
My career high is 65 with Zarya in competitive. ![]()
Competitive mode is just... It's different. It's not better or worse than quick play. It just offers something different. I have found that people in Competitive (not all of them but the majority) do play to win and that shows. Whereas in Quick play, yes you still play to win but it's more relaxed.

I reckon this new map will be released during Oktoberfest this year, or closer towards Halloween (it's celebrated more across the globe). Either way, I expect it to come in the next few months.
I just hope any new maps they release are more fair, especially at the start. Anubis really needs another route into it for the attackers in my opinion. Even if it's something that only a few heroes can utilise, like on Volksaya. It's very one-sided.

I don't get what was the point in buffing D.va's ultimate. It was pretty OP and annoying to beginning with and now they even cut time to escape it in top of making invulnerable to her own ultimate. Egh.

It has a five second fuse, which savvier players easily have time to dodge.

No, it's lower right now. "Explosion delay reduced from 4 seconds to 3 seconds" <- from patch notes. It doesn't really let you have time to escape unless you have cover next to you and escape plan thought out. And it doesn't even hurt D.va herself anymore >-<

So even more audio ripped from the files of the Public Test Realm.
So much stuff, and there is even more out there as well.
