I still remember the ME3MP demo and all the charge/nova grunting noises repeated over and over and over and over until a phantom synch killed them.

I'd rather have a new skill over nova. Nova's design is awful.

Nova definitely should go...

the sound of the Nova is just atrocious and 99% of the novaguards I came across in MP were just incompetent, mostly dead and annoying

The awkward yelling / grunting sound can go.

As for nova itself, I want to see enough variety that no one has to use any particular ability if they don't like it.

Both in SP and MP.

That said, there is no reason to remove it just because some of you guys dislike it.

The impression you have of Nova-guards as invincible demigods originates from a small minority of competent MP players with very good internet connection, the rest of the (mortal) player base can still die very easily due to being exposed without shields under fire.

Well I managed to off-host Novaguards, but then I'm a crazy person who would Shadow Strike Praetorians.

Though the lag wont be an issue in SP.

You could probably also just merge Phase Disruptor into it as an evolution that makes it into that but increases the damage.

Phase Disruptor is a tech power, nova is biotic. PD is exploited by poor players way more than nova and nobody ever complains about it. Ever. I don't care for it at all but i wouldn't actively campaign to have bioware remove it because it's clearly popular.

Although having said that the only power I really hate with a passion and would actively partition to have removed regardless of popularity is flamer because it's boring, noob-cannon, trolly ass **** for everyone else and makes vanguarding or sniping next to impossible when you have multiple flamers covering the entire screen in orange sh*te.

The main problem with off-host novaguarding for me was that I'd eventually end up flying over the battlefield. Or did they manage to fix that?

I think they should keep Nova, but remove the ability to charge immediately after. It was the never ending cycle of invincibility which took the risk out of the risk/reward.

No, it doesn't need to go, just a bit changed. Also the single player in ME3 is not a good indication as ME3's insanity is easy.

Insanity in all the games is easy, with the possible exception of the Benezia encounter, Dossier: Archangel, and small parts of the Suicide Mission.

Well I managed to off-host Novaguards, but then I'm a crazy person who would Shadow Strike Praetorians.

If that makes you crazy, then I am too.

I have said this before, so agree with OP.  Part of the problem is the combo system in ME3 which also needs a massive overhaul.

But it is in fact possible to use Nova in a relatively high-risk high reward fashion.  Run a no-charge novaguard without any shield restore abilities.

It's more combat than tech.

NG+ ME2 Purgatory was always hell for me. I think that was the only mission I consistently died 4 or 5 times on every time I went through it. I think ME's Insanity was tedious as hell but easy, and ME2's was challenging until you got to Illium and bought all the upgrades then you and your squad became quite op. ME3 was a snooze fest from start to finish difficulty wise. I had some fun playing Kronner1's 'Spectre' difficulty mod tho for ME3.

So while we're talking about nerfing skills, in a game, that hasn't even come out yet:

In Half Life 3, that will be released in 2069, that boss at the end of level 3; he has way too much Health! Seriously BioValve, please fix this mess, it's ridiculous!

Thanks.

PD was also an ability only on a Vanguard and is mechanically very similar to Nova. The reason why PD was never complained about was because it couldn't be cheesed for infinite damage immunity like Nova could. It was merely good at dealing damage by spamming combos with an ammo consumable.

Flamer suffered from problems surrounding fire damage in general that caused it to deal way too much damage(which hopefully wont be around in ME:A). It wasn't nearly as bad for snipers as Shockwave spam was.

If that makes you crazy, then I am too.

I don't know.

People just kept saying on the ME3 MP forums that you shouldn't do it because it would get you killed.

It only got you killed if you did it while simultaneously licking the nearest window.

If I had the time to run all the way over to where you are and kill the thing you were looking at, was that kill really yours to begin with?

I actually find the first few missions in ME1 to be the hardest. I steamrolled Benezia every time I faced her except for the occasional 2 hit KO. ME2 was the hardest of the 3 games on Insanity because everyone is shielded and can't be CCed  like in ME1 or comboed to death in ME3, also less broken guns. I found the Praetorian in the collector ship trap mission to be pretty hard, as well as Freedom's Hope and Kasumi's DLC (She doesn't have OP Flashbangs yet in that mission).

As for Nova, there is always this one:

To be fair, the insanity difficulty in ME3  didn't hold up to its denomination, whatever kit you used. The cloak/proxi mine combo made a joke of the game as well. Still, I don't wish for any power to go, whatever we think about them, they did bring a very welcomed variety in gameplay. I doubt I'd have stuck with this game as long as I have without this variety.

They could stand to be rebalanced though, and the Hard and Insanity difficulties should actually live up to their names. We'll see. I'm pretty sure BW is aware of these problems, considering it's the ME3MP team that is developing MEA and they can't have missed the various grievances about this and that kit/weapon in the ME3MP forums. Hopefully, they will do something about it.

I'm pretty sure some of you will still manage to to finish it with both your hands tied in your back though.

Edit: Shepard was god-mode anyway

This is more or less my opinion as well.  Starting at level 1 on Insanity in ME1 is fairly challenging relative to other things in the trilogy.  Once you finish the first plot world, it is noticeably easier just due to leveling and better gear.
