This right here!! Vanguard has essentially turned into a one trick pony with only reward and no more risk.

 

 

Is there really much risk to do anything in ME3's singleplayer campaign? In multiplayer, running in and nova-blasting everything will most likely just end up getting you killed. It's fine against low health mooks a lot of the time, but often there's enough around that the shield drain as a result will leave you wide open to getting knocked out. In singleplayer, whether or not I use Nova on my Vanguard won't really change just how efficiently I can dispatch them. Of course, the exceptions are enemies like banshees, ravagers and geth primes. I might be able to finish them off with it, but trying to nova them from the start will probably just end with a critical mission failure.

yeah, because this wasn't a problem with mp at all.



And this is someone who is deliberately using the immunity from the animation. The immunity also works when you continuously use charge+nova combo. Probably not as noticeable as here, but it's there.

And this is really exactly how I perceive all nova grunters in real life attitude wise.

Nova isn't particularly challenging to use.  Nor is nova-canceling.  It may be that nova-canceling requires slightly more coordination and some practice unlike pressing 1 repeated to use whatever power, but it isn't as if it requires otherworldly dexterity.

 

Whether or not everyone can Charge-Nova with 100% impunity is not a very good criterion to determine whether Nova is overpowered.  Tactical Cloak is overpowered and not everyone can run infiltrator without dying.   Infiltrator  wasn't the most played class either, did it actually need a buff?

 

Likewise, balancing simply based on the number of players is questionable.  Vanguards had game breaking bugs at release which soured a lot of people on playing them permanently, even when their off host problems were largely fixed.  Even then, popular is only a very loose approximation for overpowered as is unpopular for underpowered.  Kits could be popular or unpopular for many reasons other than power.

 

Nova's issues have been posted several times in here:  1.5s immunity (way too long), it doesn't have a real cost (since Charge can have similar or lower cooldown than total immunity duration), and the most egregious is that it detonates all combos.  Combos need their own thread really.

 

Why should a character be able to detonate three combos with one cooldown, all the while getting 3 seconds of immunity, 50% DR, and then repeating this cycle over and over again every 4s or less?

I think if they toned down the #s on Nova and made it the Vanguard's heavy melee It would be okay.  I want them to mainly rework Ammo powers(make them gear like multiplayer please) and Tech Armor tho. Tech Armor is such an uninteresting and lazy class skill. I think it should just be a regular skill like Cryo Blast or Pull. Give the Sentinel something interesting and unique not a souped up Barrier or Fortification.
