Hello there!

I'm on my second playthrough as a rogue dual wielder (started out as an archer but thought it was too slow for me) and I was wondering what the community thinks is a fun class for me to play on my third playthrough (yes, I am planning on playing the game again)! The first time I completed the game was as a rogue dual wielder so no changes were made, and now I'm feeling like I should try something new. So feel free to make any recommendations or voice your own opinion as to which is the most fun or try to convince me to give rogue archer another chance! I'd love to see/hear your perspectives!

I like Riftmage a lot. But then, I did like the rogue archer (my favorite in DAI) too. But mages in general are fun to play. I don't play warriors, so I can't say much about them

My ranking by fun:

  1. Rift Mage
  2. Artificer Archer
  3. Tempest DW or Archer
  4. Knight-Enchanter Mage with Blade of Tidarion for melee
  5. Templar 2H
  6. Champion 2H
  7. Pyro Necro

The rest I haven't played enough to have an opinion about.

anything with a sword or dagger. I find the ranged classes a bit static unless you get a mob run at you. i like being up where the action is and use rampage and shield block and so on and i've started a rogue which seems pretty good but squishy! Much more fun than :D

Rift mage was the only mage specialization that I never bothered to finish a roll with.  I kind of hated it.  And I made the cutest qunari broad and stuck the poor gal with it.  #regrets.  I love playing as a mage though.  But not a rifty one.  I usually KE and then build my mage for critical hits.  I also like playing as a DW rogue.  Like assassin the best but I'm not opposed to tempest.  Not too keen on playing as a warrior, though if I do it, I usually do it as a templar. I like S&S moderately more than 2H.  Not a fan of archer either.  Archers are too far from the action.  I want to be all up in yo business sticking you with a barrage of critical hits.

Of those I have played (favorite to least favorite, though I should point out, I didn't out right dislike any of them ;) ):

1) DW Rogue - all specs and all fun, to me.
2) Archer - Artificer
3) Rift Mage (most like Force mage from DA2, which was my "crack" of mage specs.)
4) Archer - Tempest
5) 2hder - Reaver
6) Knight Enchanter
7) Archer - Assassin
8) S&S - Champion

Artificer may be my favorite spec in general, since mines/traps/Opportunity Knocks....yes please!

Have not played either the Templar or Necromancer spec's, since I have yet to make any character (with appropriate class), that could reasonably role play those choices. One day. Perhaps. ;)

Artificer - both DW and archery - is probably my favourite all round. Other than that, my Rift Mage was very fun (and fits lore wise pretty well), Assassin is very satisfying for the stupid damage numbers, and 2h champion provides an enjoyable balance between hitting stuff and still being damn hard to kill.

Didn't really enjoy KE, Reaver or Tempest that much (the latter mainly because Artificer does the whole "no cooldown no stamina consumption" thing so much better than the flask). Haven't tried the other two yet, though my next playthrough (currently halfway through DA2) will likely be a Templar.

more from multiplayer where I tried them all and but sp is similar:

tops:

1. dw assassin

2. dw artificer

3. necro

good depending on enemy number/ challenge - mp is generally more challenging than sp so you get overwhelmed with enemy swarms more often so these classes are even more fun due to non stop dps:

4-6. two handed reaver, dualist, saarebas* (mp only)

7-8. archer artificer or tempest

9. two handed champion / kataari, silent sister

10-11. templar, virtuoso

12-13. arcane warior/ke, rift mage / elementalist

I like the 2h templar, 2h reaver, sword and shield champion, and artificer archer.

Mage, preferably a Qunari either KE or Rift Mage but, Necro is fun if you like being the control expert of the party.

Dual Wield Rogue with Articifer or Tempest is good, with assassin it has a DA2 feel to me.

Warrior S&B Templar or 2H Reaver but, know that AI stinks with Reaver so, you have to be in control of the Reaver in battle.

In that order, others rank lower for fun to play for me.

Assassin Archer was fun for me.

Artificer Archer next. Because I like spamming spike traps. I also loved biotic throws/pulls and singularity in the ME series. I love watching bodies fly around!

And then Rift Mage. I swap around my Inquis and Solas for this reason. I like Veilstrikes. Fun fun fun!

Cass does such a good job tanking that I don't feel like I need to tank. Warrior classes were the most boring to me because I couldn't see the point when I could sit back and pew pews.

Artificer--both DW and Archers are enormous fun. Elemental mines, throwing blades, leaping shot, the insane cooldown, ability spams, ciritical chance and damage are amazing.

But I am also having enormous fun with Hannah Rose's facetank build for Sera and DW Tempest Quizzies. Freeze-shatter and leech-poison weapons ahoy!

I see that you have quite an experience with archers! But might I ask how you kept with it? At the beginning, I found it to be boring to keep pressing the left click all the time with little to no action :(

I have a blast with Archer, and the Specs are like icing on the cake. But as you can see, I have actually played the archer and DW rogue the same number of times, and mage most of all (have played two Rift and two KE's, and am starting a third Rift mage at the moment). DW rogue though, is still the bees-knees.

Also note, I did put them in order of most fun for me to play. ;)

Using things like Hook and Tackle + Leaping Shot, or throwing out Knockout Powder/Throwing Knives/Hidden Blades (if an Assassin), also means you can change up your tactics. Hence, it isn't a straight "button-mash", for me. Of course, YMMV. B)

I've never once played as an archer.  I tried once.  But No.  I hate archer.  I rogue as a dual wielder (preferably dual blade).  But my bread and butter is mage.

I did hear that the rogue archer gets better late game. But then again, when I tried archer, I was expecting the adrenaline I got from play dual wielders. Instead, I got bored instead :(

And yes! I did read over your list! I plan on trying the rift mage as many people in this thread have suggested that it is very fun. Though maybe on my other playthroughs I will try knight-enchanter, who knows :)

I found archer ridiculously fun for two things - a) sniping and b ) being able to move while attacking. All other classes stand still when attacking. The archer can move, and then you can get a skill upgrade to move even faster.

This means that a) I can hit an enemy from very far away, then slowly walk toward them while shooting or b ) use the grapple hook skill to pull myself close, drop a few mines, and then use Leaping Shot to jump away and shoot out explosive arrows or c) sneak and do the above.

I never played archers in DA before I discovered them in Inquisition. I love that the class works very well ranged, but also up-in-your-face and also benefits from sneak attacks, and all the different jumping talents really makes you see so acrobatic, which I feel even the DW rogue skills miss out on. It's the first time I really felt like I was playing a rogue rather than, well, a warrior who used two daggers.
