That's what I'm talkin about. They should question themselves, "do you think all the pieces fit"? Better safe then sorry. More time can be used to review. They could use that time to better side missions and DLC.It can be either bad or decent regardless of the time it took to make it.

So here it is from a place of pessimism:
Black Flag. Great game right? Comes after two to three lack lustre installments, one of which was revelations. Widely criticised, this installment triggered a boycott from the fanbase of their mp dlc content and even a week long boycott of the mp itself.
This was around the time ME3 released. So it was overshadowed by events taking place on the BSN though it did get Ubisofts attention. They released a statement addressing our concerns.
Then came AC 3
Both games really annoyed their fan bases, Ubisoft saw fit to say to themselves:
If we give them rolled gold for the next installment they'll all buy the next two regardless of how crappy they are.
Ubisoft was right.
You could argue that this is EA's attempt to black flag us . That the installment after this will be a bug riddled mess with no direction focused around the MP.
But I wont do that.
Instead I'm going to encourage everyone to think happy thoughts about the future.

AC:Revelations should've included The Lost Archive with the base game (had MASSIVE importance plot-wise, see why I'm against DLC?). AC3 should have been the one about pirates of heck about Shay and IT. SHOULD. HAVE. ENDED. THERE.I hate to be negative but I generally feed off the atmosphere and all I'm getting from the forum today is negativity.

You think they don't already do that? Games are in a near constant state of testing and iteration. Features aren't built separately and then pieced together at the end; they're built, locked in, and gradually built upon (the actual pipeline is more complex, but it's still a rolling procedure, not a periodic one). If a dev is just noticing a fundamental problem late in development, then there probably isn't too much they can do about it. More reviewing after the fact won't do much more than squash a few bugs.
Regardless, I don't think you can look any recent BioWare game and say "these parts simply don't fit together." They've definitely had scope issues, but their games are still quite coherent (on the mechanical side at least).
I really dislike the whole DLC thing, always have. I only approve if it's expansions, sold physically like DAO: Awakening.
The distinction is entirely arbitrary. At this point we can download entire games. Hell, some physical PC games are just Steam codes in boxes nowadays.

I wouldn't expect a five year wait for the next Mass Effect game. Andromeda is pretty close to being a completely new IP for they are having to create all the lore and background from the Andromeda Galaxy while developing the tools and modules needed to work on Frostbite. Most studios and publishers try to release a game after three years of development for they run the risk of major platform changes that would need to be adjusted for. Such as if Sony and Microsoft instead of releasing a "console refresh" they release new consoles and Andromeda is delayed they would have to spend money and man hours updating the game to guarantee it would work on the new consoles. There is also a risk of longer development time is the game is expected to sell better for otherwise the game will take a loss and then would not have sequels.

The problem is there is not a large market for expansions that take a year to develop like Awakening, each month past release the user base of people that will buy additional content dwindles. My experience might be different then most, but I had the most technical problems with Awakening then any other BioWare content so holding it up as an example of something that is good never makes sense for I rather have good content then content I can't play.

That was a better game than people give it credit for.Or Ultima:Ascension.
It wasn't good, but it was better than its reputation.
I do like how transparently EA rushed it though. The devs announced a delay, and then EA just went ahead and released the unfinished game almost immediately. Never has EA's impatience been so plainly displayed.

I don't think longer development times necessarily equate to a better game. More polished certainly but at this juncture, the fundamentals have already been decided.

Often when a game is using a different game engine than was used before that seems to add to development time.
