Actually I learned about it in English class more than History.
As somebody who has an actual interest in learning history, the actual history class in school was pretty much useless. At least it was in Canada where we call it Social Studies and it's combined with politics.
They need something they can test you on, so 90% of it is just memorizing dates. Real history is like reading good lore for a game.
Only probably more violent =P
Actually older Elder Scrolls games had some pretty gratuitous nudity in places. Bethesda moved to a more realistic idea of what medieval fantasy would look like from Morrowind on up, though.
The Skyrim modding community loves its sexy mods. And mod showcase videos tend to stick some thong-wearing lady butt into the thumbnail of videos where, frankly, they have no business being--since the mod on show is usually about shrubbery textures being shiny and HD or something. That kind of thing gives the modding community for Bethesda games a reputation for being a bunch of horny dudes who just want more sex in their games. Not entirely fair--there are a lot of great mods for the Elder Scrolls games out there.
It's not like with Mass Effect, where you have to intentionally go hunting for the nude mods, though. Although I guess it could be compared to Dragon Age, where in their efforts to fix the awkward stiff stock-animation crap of the love scenes, modders tend to overcorrect and turn it into a really badly-animated CG porn video. I'd kind of like to just find a mod for that stuff that hits it in the middle, keeps the romantic movie love-scene intent but improves upon the look and feel of the scene. I'm sure there's one out there, but, ugh, digging through the XXX stuff to find it... >_>;;
I have nothing against nudity, exactly, but when suddenly Dragon Age is more explicit than The Witcher 3, it breaks my immersion.
It's a standard in marketing, if you put an attractive person on the front it'll draw more attention even if they have nothing to do with it. Both guys and girls will do it.
Although my general opinion is that if we're going to go around parading the fact that we're "mature" now with games like TW3 and Inquisition then we ought to actually act the part. We don't need to throw nudity in the player's face just as a "look at those boobs!" type of deal but if you walk into a brothel? Yeah, there should be nudity.
I'd also say that it probably should be there during the sex scene, but games as a whole should stop acting like sex is the ultimate prize of a romantic relationship.
As far as the animation goes I felt TW3 was actually pretty good. Awkward for the poor intern that had to sort through 16 hours of motion capture sex, but their sacrifice was worth it.
