Do Not Want.

Nipples are the eyes of Satan.

In the old days they would put stars on the nipples.

Just a daily random fact.

Each and every time I hear/read the word "crucible" I think of a giant microphone.

Maybe The Reapers wanted to sing a song in loving memory of that hero known as Marauder Shields.

Thankfully, these days Crucible just reminds me of killing other players.

It actually makes sense to use the word crucible in that game.

You know why games do this? they do this, things like switch the camera angle and such, to avoid an AO rating. An AO rating is death to a videogame because retailer refuse to sell AO rated games. M rated is the furthest retailers are willing to go. You want an AO rated game you'll have to buy it online, most people still use Gamestop and Walmart to buy there games.

Since so many games seem to have no problems with achieving high sales due to their 18+ content with violence, I wonder why Mass Effect - like most of the American video game and movie industry (Hollywood) - has such a big problem with nudity.

I mean this game is containing romances without any actual sex. It's like we are in a Christian or Muslim movie where everything is allowed from doing a genocide (Krogans), killing, illegal trades to supporting murder (and a Shadowbroker spying on everyone - Snowden/NSA anyone?) BUT as soon as you could show one breast (OMG!) you immediately have to change the camera angle and after that quickly switch to the wake up scene in full clothes or tshirts and bra.

I mean you seem as afraid of this as a little girl that starts looking away and turns red as soon as something turns sexual.

I think most of your playerbase has actually reached the age when they can bear those moments since they are normal within our lifes. This censorship just cuts away a huge amount of game immersion as far as I am concerned and from my point of view this is neither justified on a commercial nor on a gameplay level. One of the biggest reasons why people buy a Mass Effect game is that they can develope their own character in a realistic way with their own choices. I don't demand polyamory like some other people in this forum (since this was always a possibility when you actually played the old games [-> You could actually romance at least 5 different people in the playthrough of the game without actual negative consequences]), but a more grown up dealing with the topics of nudity and/or sex.

A Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick for example had no problem to show nudity and still isnt considered to be a porn movie, but a true masterpiece of film. Since Mass Effect always had a great story in my opinion, I would expect the same for Andromeda and see an improvement for the actual quality of the game in terms of realism and immersion.

How do you guys feel about this?

(It would be actually quite nice if you would note your sex in your comment so that it can be observed if this idea is accepted or criticized by males and/or females)

To return to the original discussion of this thread. I think ultimately people have to be comfortable, ethically with the content of the artistic creations that they create. Ultimately in this modern world, an artistic creation is making a statement that the artist wants to make, usually to a particular audience.

Kubrick as a film director, was making films at a time when visual images and moving medium were uibiquitous but the technology was still expensive and film was still considered an art form conflatable with high art. He was directing at a time when traditional values and aesthetics were being questioned by a new generation of intellectuals and the common man. Counter culture was something that was discussed, it was perceived as real and postmodernism was still on the horison. People discussed Derridia and the idea of a simulicrum, the symbol replacing the reality was a topic of discussion. Kubrick when he portrayed sexuality and violence, such as it "Clock Work Orange", "Lolitia" (1962) and "Barry Lyndon" was approaching discussing issues with the dominant discourse and questioning the dominant values of his time. Without a doubt its content was salacious and perhaps he did rely on its content to ensure audience attention and interest but he was reflecting general ideas of his time. It is still able to be appreciated as art.

Now it would be nice to subject Biowares video games to the same standards, and perhaps it develop its own subtle symbolism subject to criticism but it also has an intentional audience and the writers, directors and programmers at the end of the day have to be comfortable with the content of their creations. They will invoke the tropes that they recognize and that they know their intentional audience will recognize.

What constitutes risque sexualized behaviour has changed over time, and people are paying real money for the symbol over the reality. Whatever was being described by postmodernism, a meta narrative to history is the now and we are dealing with the flaws of the metanarratives of the past. The statements of Kubrick are subject to new interpretations and only some of them are relevant, the statements about universal human behaviour and universal truths. The mysticism and privilege has changed from political and power formulations to universal symbols and perspective. Kubrick criticizes human agency, portraying as subject to powers greater than the individual. Much of Biowares narratives, in the context of its science fiction and fantasy has tried to give the player agency. Kubrick has portrayed his characters in situations where the agency is reduced and they are the subject of their situations.

It would be cool if Bioware was able to introduce symbolism in their narratives akin to Kubrick, but one the issues is that Bioware tries to give the player agency or at least convey the sensation of agency to the player, which in some ways conflicts with Kubricks themes, portraying people as products of their situation. The predominant theme in Barry Lyndon (1975) but also Space Odyessy (1968), the movies with Peter Sellers and Paths to Glory (1957) is of the situational nature of humanity. Perhaps often the major issues of work are in retrospect, perhaps in retrospect we will be able to examine Biowares narrative in a clearer fashion and objectively recognize the basis for our engagement. I suspect the symbol over the reality will only get stronger.

It's a standard in marketing, if you put an attractive person on the front it'll draw more attention even if they have nothing to do with it. Both guys and girls will do it.

I'm aware of how "marketing" works. The Skyrim mod community also isn't trying to sell me anything, though, so "marketing" in that case is kinda fugging cynical. If a person really wants Skyrim mods, they're already searching for them anyway.

Time for rrrrrrrouuuund twoooo (Yes, I played Mortal Kombat back in the days):

> Aggressive towards religion

Not really. I have never said anything against these religions. I just said it is very difficult to talk about these topics in strongly religious communities. If you disagree, try publishing porn in Saudi Arabia or the Vatican. Also if you look back in American history for example, movies with more or less sexual content always created scandals, with the majority of complaining people being fundamentally Christian.

> This game would get an AO-rating / None of the retailers will sell a game with sex

First of: No. The Witcher didnt get an AO-rating as far as I am concerned and you would need explicit PORNOGRAPHY to get one. Funny fact: GTA: San Andreas got an AO-rating later on. I dont think this game was unsucessful... Nudity in a game doesn't necessarily mean that you will get an AO-rating. Besides it will probably push the sales up to a level similar to those of the Witcher 3.

> I crei everi teim I si de movie "A Clockwork Orange"

First of all: There are some more movies with nudity out there. This movie just combined commercial success with the point of being critically acclaimed. I think some people were mixing up the bad personality of the protagonist with nudity. Yes, rape and violence are bad, but this doesn't mean nudity is. Disgust for the protagonist was by the way totally intended. The movies plot was about what happens if you radically change someones bad personality, implying the social impact and reaction. If you don't like this example, just pick another one. Game of Thrones, Californication, Primal Instinct, The Witcher 1-3 and so on.

> I would watch porn or play a Bethesda game

> There is no nudity in Bethesda game

Paleophilia ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) lmao ("Skyrim" sounds dirty to me now). Someone seems to have accepted a challenge there :'D

> Why is it so hard for you to understand that showing nudity and explicit content is a sensitive and explosive subject around the world?

I do understand that. But you can always cut out or pixelate certain camera views if you want to sell the game in these countries. I don't see a reason why we would need to cut away all the content because one country demands it. You can always produce a game with the whole content and adjust it to the local markets to reach your rating goals there. Example: 10 people go into a cinema to watch a 3D movie. One guy demands that the movie isn't supposed to have 3D. Would you just let him watch the movie without the 3D glasses or would you rework the entire movie to be 3D-free, while none of the other 9 people asked for it?

Besides that: Nudity is pretty much accepted in the countries where EA and BioWare target to sell the majority of their games (Western Markets), so there shouldnt be much of a problem.

> George R.R. Martin isn't good at writing sex scenes

http://thewertzone.b...58-million.html

Good enough, I guess. [58'000'000 x 7,40$ x 0,2 (20% profit for the author) = 85'840'000$]
