so last weekend my pc crashed and burned...bad...horribly bad...was working on editting music cds and went to change to another CD and it froze, blasted this god-awful noise from the speakers and then she died. it was a horrible death. anyway.....
the new one arrives tomorrow and I have a few questions.

1) updates....I have everything I have ever downloaded for Dao on an external hard drive (yay!) but the last update I got was like the fourth one. I believe there are 5. do I need to install all 5 or will the last one take care of them all?

2) I will have Windows 10 where I was using XP on that particular computer. I have read and printed all the info on getting the database to work (am going to try for 2014 version), but I haven't seen anything about installing the game itself. is it safe to assume it installs without problems or do I need to study up on that as well?

3) my official dlcs....will I have to buy them again or is there a way to get them back?

thank the maker this pc has built in wifi. hopefully after tomorrow, I won't be doing this the cell anymore. yay!

1 & 3 - I'd recommend registering DAO on Origin, as it automatically downloads the patched version of the game when you install it and if I'm not mistaken DLCs are available for download if your Origin account you have DAO registered on is the same EA account you use on these forums or used on the old one.

2 - The game and the toolset itself run fine on Win10, no compatibility mode required; although I always had this problem (even way back on Win7) where the toolset database wouldn't install correctly and I always got the unable to connect to database error. Fortunately, this can be remedied by using the manual database restoration method with SQL server management studio.

Related: the way your PC died sounds like either a PSU or motherboard failure, were you able to salavage anything? did the disk drives survive? If so, you might be able to recover the toolset database and you don't have to manually restore it.

I have backups of my database, but I don't think I really want to restore it. I believe I just want to start fresh because it has so much junk in it. my external drive is fine. I don't about the internal one yet. I found a cable that allows you to connect it via the usb port. so I'm going to try that when I get around to it. I'm in no rush about that. anything really important was saved to the external drive. as for the accounts and such, it is registered and I have all my original dvds. I save EVERYTHING. my husband is self employed and I don't get rid of anything computer related, games included, because I worry I may accidentally get rid of something the irs wants. Lol
