I know and my first thought was they clearly don't remember the 1990s http://www.cracked.c...o-games_p2.html

This stuff is obviously nsfw but keep an eye out for miss nude world 96.

There was also I penthouse game IIRC.

This is why arcades used to be so cool kids 20c porn games.

*Sips the flavours of a forbidden youth*

And they're all shitty games.

btw i never tasted one of those flavours.

I've come to really appreciate the idea of sexiness as improved with the clothes on, leaving something to the imagination.

It's a concept that you see a lot but most of the time people are just paying it lipservice before jumping on the porn-wagon... elsewhere. Or they go so hard on the concept they make it seem frigid and lame.

Or just well... something... covering... something

Spoiler

Also I mean in TW1.. er... all TW games... Geralt is sterile, I don't know if that's significant necessarily but my guess is he would of had a different approach if he, er, weren't.

To start the romance with Cullen, you literally selected an option on the dialogue wheel that said "Start a romance with Cullen."

So the interface needs to be less clear?

Yep. Just like the witcher.

As for the flavours, imagine living inside of a skittles commercial. With naked people and booze and what we'll refer to as 'others' for now.

...

How is that a natural unfolding of a relationship integrated with NPC interaction? Not to mention two of them were in-and-out bang sessions, and Cassandra's romance was painfully cliche, where you literally fetched flowers and crap to woo her.
I found the romances in Dragon Age 2 and the Mass Effect trilogy in general to be far better.

I dunno. I still think that Inquisition is overall superior in a lot of respects, especially to Mass Effect, which I consider to be shallow compared to any DA game, mainly because the lack of approval makes all companions available regardless of your PC's decisions and disposition.

In any case, isn't the argument for making the romance initiation less direct basically promoting ninjamances? I thought we hated that stuff.

edit: less not more

Witcher is great, you big dumb Krogan.

I like the way you think, but the second part was a joke.

You sure? The only age restriction on nudity at my place is that the naked person needs to be 18.

We did. There were whole threads about it. Though I think the worst cases were typically caused by outright programming errors. Leliana's dialogue tree is a mess, for instance.

CRPG dialogue can't actually work like RW conversations. There are only so many opportunities you get to set the proper variable, and if you miss all the chances, that's it. Sometimes there's only one chance. I think the Blackwall romance requires you to use the flirt option during the battlements conversation; if you don't, that's it, even if you take that option at other times.

Here is how.

Make it a quest

Bio's intention is to treat every character equally.  They don't spell it out but past history suggests there will be a romance for every gender and type. This approach can easily hit the Word Budget Wall. To manage this, Bio will create Prime Romances and secondary ones (I'm looking at DA:I here).  All "love" scenes to be triggered near the end of the game or before the final battle with the Big Bad.

The Loving

I expect brief nude or semi nude scenes, but no full Monty. Let's face it, gore, decapitation, blood is fine but the love must be hypocritically "tasteful" to adhere to Puritan customs.  I mean, back in the day, they "did it" because of conjugal obligation and with the lights out and clothes on .

7 Characters

There is no room for extras. That is side romance or affairs. That adds dialogue which then must be subtracted form the Word Budget, thus making less dialogue available elsewhere. With seven team mates in the squad, deep character development ( such as background information, loyalty missions...etc) requires a significant number of dialogue lines.

Besides, a  video game is not a romance novel. Andromeda is about exploration, combat, team interactions, hard choices and game pacing.  Romance scenes with too many accompanying cinematics will intrude on this pacing tempo.

How I handle it is that first I meet a nice Quarian girl.

Then I take her out to dinner.

Then we go back to my place

Romance irl is definitely less clear. Making it more vague is more titillating and more natural. Realism isn't preferred for all things in the game, but I find it a preference in things like NPC interactions.

And about the ninja mances - it's a bit like those hidden outcomes that are hard to predict based on decisions you make. We love those. Finding out that what seemed best at the time resulted in some unforeseen consequence adds to the overall drama of the narrative. Like accidentally slaughtering Lavellan's clan, or not upgrading the ship and a crewmate dying, etc. Same for romance. In fact these surprises make you want to play the game again and again to select different options.

Strip monopoly.

I dunno. There's something considerably unsexy about Monopoly. Maybe it's the mustached mellon head on the box.

Is that like a version of monopoly that emphasizes strip mining resources or something??

You can make a strip version of anything.

Something like that.

Depending on your definition of "mining" and "resources".
