Oh, I wouldn't say Solas is evil, I would say he's dangerous to his enemies though. Sun=Light=Knowledge is also another route you can go. It seems Solas searches constantly for knowledge and knowledge lost. I wouldn't have called him an adorkable nerd either. To me he seems honorable, intelligent, but distant. He has loyalties that have been touched on, but not explained in great detail. His motives aren't selfish as much they are like a caretaker. (Now Dagna would fall under the adorkable nerd catagory, she's so cute)
OMG I THINK SOLAS IS EVIL!

I think the developers left a little clue in the game to expose that Solas is actually evil. Rather than the Dread Wolf he tries to convince you of... I think he is closer to the Dread Wolf from lore, you know the one who hides away, alone... hugging and giggling with laughter because he takes delight in trickery... he is insane, evil, and it even speculates he hates elves. The big clue... if you walk him through the Exalted Plains, after you completed Ghilan'Nain's Grove, you set up camp and pass through an elven graveyard... I know this because it is the same kind of Graves you find in the Emerald Graves, identical, with elven inscriptions, epitaph ... Solas will say "I like it here... it is quiet..." with this almost evil glee... it gave me chills... and I don't think the developers put it there by accident. The voice actor sounded sinister... with an undertone of delight... a smile. I thought Solas was this God like rebel... but after encountering that moment in the game... and after digging deeper into the lore, the inspiration for his character... he might be completely evil. I also suspect that is why they had to leave his romantic connection hanging... they wanted to stay true to his love of deception, his delight in misleading, drawing in... weakening others. Solas = Soul less... without a soul...
I disagree. Solas blinks his eyes exactly five times at Morrigan during the visit to Mythal's Temple. So this definitely proves he's actually a good character.

Solas isn't evil, just very misguided in his ideals.

There is just so much we still do not know. We do not know what happened in Arlathan,we do not know what happened with Mythal and Solas in the past and we are missing so many puzzle pieces. We can assume and we can dream but the reality is atm that we are like Dalish, trying to make way in the dark and having very little information that actually would make us see and understand. That is why I would love to see in the future games more info about what happened in the past. The thing with evil and good is that we all have different measures for it. I see Solas as desperate but still dangerous. He wants his home back and make the world right again and he is ready to do whatever it takes. Another thing is that we do not know really if the Veil would stay forever, there are places where it is thinner, could it get worse like that in more places, starting to tear? Ugh,please give me 20 min of testing in the future game how it was in the world when the Veil was not in place? Otherwise I feel like I would be faced with the decision at the end of the game and it doesnt feel right like that

That's kinda the definition of actual evil.

I feel like Solas is one of those people who thrives on conflict. I'll specify here that this is just me, but considering all the Fen'Harel slave rebellion stuff and potentially slaying a titan with Mythal. Maybe Solas just needs something to keep fighting for? And the weight of his Veil decision's consequences combined with waking up in his concept of a post apocalyptic world along with this messiah complex he may have has resulted in a completely ridiculous desire to throw the world back into chaos. Idk this isn't a Solas character sketch thread tho lol.
(Keeping the aforementioned view of the character in mind) But I kind of struggle with putting Solas in the good or evil box, because I feel as a character (or person or whatever) he isn't evil, however his plans are absolutely evil. Like in Trespasser, even if he hates you, he doesn't revel in malice over what he plans to do but at the same time he still wants to go through with it. So I guess I'd say Solas is p bad but not "evil evil", if that makes sense.

I think that is probably close to the truth. If Solas is really based on some sort of Luciferian or Lokean archetype, his role is as an antagonist to the status quo in power, and unfortunately, by the end of DAI, that's you--the leader of one of the most powerful human organizations in Thedas. The Inquisition was no longer some underdog upstart trying to save the world and fight Corypheus, so he turns against it to champion the cause of his people, who he promised to save. Even though he is the one who brought their world to an end originally, when the Evanuris became too powerful. And I think he would do it again.I feel like Solas is one of those people who thrives on conflict. I'll specify here that this is just me, but considering all the Fen'Harel slave rebellion stuff
and potentially slaying a titan with Mythal. Maybe Solas just needs something to keep fighting for?
I don't think that means he's all about pure chaos though. More about paving the way to restoring order when it has been lost or corrupted, and making change happen, which explains why he served or guarded Mythal, and the Dalish still set up his statues outside camp for protection.

I don't know if I would describe Solas as evil. I just finished Trespasser and there he even expresses, that he wishes the inquisitor proofs him wrong, before he tears down the veil. Truly evil characters seldom question their motives, Solas does that a lot during the game imo. At least, if you befriend him.
Maybe he could be persuaded to not bring the veil down in the next game... who knows

This post while interesting (and infuriating jfc please the ellipses KILL me) I think doesn't do justice to Patrick Weekes writing skills (because they're mad and not that 1 dimensional)
Solas is horrifically misguided, a little bit stupid (considering him knowing pretty much everything and ****** up this majorly) and is hellbent on his own ideals. After all he is a proud guy (I'm sorry).
This podcast will also be your friend in this matter: http://www.nerdappro...patrick-weekes/
(Now I will crawl back to my whole and observe posts...for I do not like to write them...Oh god I cant stop...)
p.s OP I have the same problem with brackets evidently
