For the PC, I want either an autosave game mechanism before a fight or give the player the freedom save the game at any point.

I really, really hated dying near the end of a fight only to have the game reload placed me at the beginning of the mission.

I wholeheartedly agree. The save system was rather screwy in all three games.

Also, one thing I want, is the "VI interaction for profile construction" that ME1 had. It was much more fun than ME2 and ME3. It felt like I was really interacting with a live VI.
I remember my first playthrough, when the VI said, "Warning: data corruption detected", I thought I screwed up, and it turned out all it wanted for me was to construct my custom character.

Part of the reason this was true was that you didn't feel this emotion on the other planets. Palaven burning was barely a blip, Kahje under attack could be allowed, Dekunna and Irune were basically ignored.

But with Thessia, everything was forced. Shepard was forced to blame him/herself, when I was blaming Asari High Command for waiting so long.

When coupled with the obvious special treatment Liara was given, it seemed like the devs thought we SHOULD care more because it happened to the asari.

it's not.like shep didn't feel. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and focus on the task at hand. You can mourn the dead later. When thessia fell and he lost the prothean vi shep probably felt doubt that they could win. What can you do against might such as the reapers? Wait and die or try your hardest to win even if it's impossible. Asari command couldn't do jack because they were fighting reapers. It's not about just asari. Innocents were being killed across the galaxy, earth was in flames, Kai Leng just beat them and shep felt guilty because they were defeated. Thats why.

Good news:

@Jos replied that "... Without getting into it further (I can't), a frustrating situation like having to restart long missions from the beginning wouldn't happen"

I guess from the reply that Bio may have implemented auto saves in combat levels.

Kai Leng's interference/intervention feels WAY TOO much like a deus ex machina in favor of the Reapers.

Basically just here to say i agree with everything you said in this opening post, as a fan of ME1 and Origins, Bioware seem to be pulling away from what made me love these games in the first place.

One thing I do hope for MEA are more "funny moments", like the way Kasumi advertised herself with her wordplay, "Got a problem with Collectors? Check out Kasumi's credit services!"

Another example would be Grunt's search history, where he attempts to look up the non-existent Krogan king known as "Tyrannosaurus Wrex", and then backspacing and simply Googling (or Binging) "dinosaurs".
I find the picture that comes to my head very funny, imagining Grunt typing on a keyboard with one big finger per hand, coupled with the look of interest in his face.

Hope: i hope MEA has… sniper rifles!

Hope not: What i hope MEA doesn't have is a story the forum hates vehemently. I don't expect this to happen. As much as there's been problems seen here and there, usually dialog choices or lack there of, with BioWare's games, the story hasn't been it (in heaps, anyway). May BioWare continue this way; or better, better's always nice.

I really, really hope it has a "brutal finishers" mechanic.

For example, an Adept could raise a wounded enemy into the air and crush them with a collapsing biotic field, blow them up with an expanding field.

An Engie could flash-freeze an enemy and smash them, go full Palpatine and overload their nervous system, immolate them.

A Soldier would have more power-focused finishers, like suplexes, head stomps, gun-based kills (plant sniper rifle upwards, press an enemy's head to the barrel and fire, point-blank SMG clip to the chest, pistol whip an enemy to their knees and headshot for example).

Infiltrator would be more precision-based, like neck snaps, knife finishers.

Vanguards would biotic charge and impale foes with their hands.

Edit: Forgot Sentinels, the idea would be that they focus on their Omni-blades. Impale and decapitation, cross-slashes, leg sweep and impale.

These are just examples I could think of, I really liked the finishers in DA and was hoping they'd bring them to ME, considering we already have the grab-kills and Husk/Abomination head stomps.

The concept of surrender would be nice.

There are some, (some would say too few), games where you can force an enemy combatant to surrender, which is something I wished a lot of Asari would do in ME2.

One thing I am torn about, the cheesy sci-fi background music found EVERYWHERE in ME1. I started to find it annoying in ME1, and then found myself missing it in ME2. In ME3, they brought back only a small fraction of it.

Oh, it totally is, but it also has a pertinent function in the setting. I think that makes it a fairly well-concealed loading roadblock.

Sure, I agree with that too. And it wasn't as annoying as an elevator.

Its still a single player game presumably(good) but for any multiplayer type component, I want places where people can get stuck. Incapable of escape. Left looking on while they get playfully mocked by friends.

Like Fiery Phoenix did here when we were playing Halo 5 the other day.

I would like the option to subdue certain opponents and capture them/hand them over to the authorities rather than always having to kill them. I always preferred the peaceful options for certain missions in ME1, like Major Kyle, the hostage situation on the cargo ship and so forth. I also want one where my patience might be tested, like the Warlord that Hackett wanted you to eliminate.

I hope MEA beefs up its lore. Just checking their respective wikis DA has almost 10 000 more pages.

That's because DA has some confusing chantry crap, 10 ages and blah blah blah. Most of it I can't make sense of.

Speaking of wikis, I sure HOPE that they someday have a wiki page that doesn't eat up all my bandwidth/processor and freeze every now and then.

Speaking of loading screens.... I hate long load times.

I have yet to read a review article that mentions game load times. It's as if there is a code of silence. And, if you remember, Mike Laidlaw mentioned that traveling from one area to another in DA:I would be seamless. True...He conveniently forgot to mention other areas where load times were long.

So, I don't expect the Bio Montreal studio to mention long load times either (ie: game start or save file reload times) that are suitably masked by some cut scene. High resolution texture, say, for 4k displays will be big files, by their very nature = long load times.

Basically, I expect every planetary mission to include a cut scene to mask loading the planet's texture files in the background... be prepared to see the Tempest landing on every planet we touch down = elevator equivalent. And, if Bio is really short on time or are cost sensitive it will be the same scene over and over.

What a surprise, if they prove me wrong.

What I hope for:
1. Planet exploration similar to ME 1, but heavily built upon.
2. Great story that implements the lore correctly (little retcon as possible).
3. Believable characters that can make us fall in love with them, just as the trilogy had, but better.
4. Unique and believable side quests that are just as deep as Witcher 3, or better.
5. Possible Andromeda galaxy crewmate(s).
6. Krogan romance option......*_*

What I DO NOT hope for:
1. Repetitive quests. I could give some examples but the list will be very long.
2. The Mako can only be used for scripted missions.
3. Not many planets to explore and venture out, restricting us to a very linear path to follow.
4. Not enough RPG elements implemented.
5. Similar story structure as the trilogy( ie. One of two important character die on a specific mission while the other guilt trips you through subsequent games).
6. Auto-pilot dialogue from the PC that ruins immersive roleplaying.

It'd be cool if the classes were different than the trilogy ones, or at least if they had new abilities rather than merely tweaked old ones. Maybe they could be inspired by the N7 classes from ME3's multiplayer.

This.

One of the things I disliked greatly in DOOM 2016.

Let me save where I want, so I don't have to kill those three damm corpses every time Marauder Shields kicks me arse.

I hope MEA has:

  • more class specific actions/dialogue options (like "hack" for engineer to resolve some quest, biotic lift for adepts), more class specific cutscenes (if i'm biotic I want to see that in cutscenes too);
  • armor and weapon customization/crafting;
  • ship customization;
  • more interactions between companions (like in ME3), more comments on current situation and choices;
  • less companions, more content per each companion (it would be cool if all of them are related to the main story).

I hope MEA doesn't have:

  • any mentions of ME3 ending or ME1-3 choices;
  • tons of useless filler quests;
  • forced not-in-my-character stuff like ..ugh... dreams;
  • forced romance/friendship/rivalry;
  • moral "paragon/renegade" system. I really prefer DA2 system (sarcastic/diplomatic/aggressive);
  • stupid situations like my character asking "what's mass effect" and "what's mass relay" questions (aka "who is mythal?");
  • any time travel related stuff.
