It doesn't really matter. All rogue specs work well with either DW or archer. And the question is the wrong way round. Ask which weapon type each spec should use.Been wondering this for a while now.
There is a slight advantage for a Tempest to be DW, due to some of the side-benefits of actives only working at melee range, like Flask of Frost.
For Assassin, there might be ever so slight an advantage for DW, since Hidden Blades and Throwing Blades have short ranges. Archer's Leaping Shot/Shot Into Shadows is very nearly as good, though.

Personally I'd go with Tempest, it makes surviving as a DWR a lot easier, especially if you keep rotating your flask skills

My next run is going to be a QF DW Assassin. I actually prefer Archer, but I just did an Archer Artificer run.
