The hyperbole and cynicism in this thread just reminds me why I barely even bothering checking this place for news. I enjoyed the trailer.

"I don't like it when people disagree with me."

No kidding.

I don't think so, mate. The character looks young but I'm talking about the smoothness of the animation, or lack thereof. It looks like a puppet on a string. Look at the way the mouth drops in an over exaggerated manner. There is no progression between expressions. There is one then there is the other immediately afterward. Try moving the video frame by frame to see what I mean. It's really poor when compared to other games.

So you have to go out of your way and move the video frame by frame in order to notice it? I hope you can understand why I feel a bit skeptical about this perceived flaw.

I guess I kind of see what you say about the smile disappearing too quickly, but I think it comes down to context. My guess is the scene is probably meant to be humorous.

I doubt the game will look as good in reality graphics wise, especially on consoles. I suspect this is pre rendered stuff, not in game.

agreed. after DA:I...lmao

but...if you move the video frame by frame, of course it would look like stop motion without transitions in between. O.o

poor asari looks like she's tingling all over and she doesnt even know why. frantic scene. animation approved.

All I got out of it was that they're definitely probably maybe going all in with the DAI style open world stuff, based on what they said, because they certainly didn't show anything interesting.

Nice trailer, would've liked to see more but I'm willing to wait :)

Loving the style of the music from 00:21 (the calm tones) it's very Mass-Effect-esque and gives me fond memories of the series, anyone with more video knowledge than me willing to try to extract this soundtrack?

The trailer has an open world vibe too actually, because all they really showed was many almost barren planets and some star ships.

Get ready to drive your Mako around on said planets for dozens of hours to carry out mundane tasks. Huzzah!

There's a few tidbits in this Kotaku article...

Kotaku: BioWare Wants Mass Effect Andromeda To Recapture The First Game's Wonder

Vaguely, though: Walters said the team is trying to blend the cinematic, linear missions people liked in the previous Mass Effects with a richer, more open experience on the surfaces of the worlds players explore. “We want to lean into that open-world experience. We don’t want you to feel like you’ve landed on the planet with one objective and then leave the planet. We want you to spend some time there.”

BioWare knows when Andromeda takes place, for example, but they want to be vague about it publicly. “I think it’s fair to say that with even the most creative scientific advancements, it’s hundreds of years to travel to Andromeda,” Walters said. “So that should give you some sense of how far in the future it might be.”

Here’s one thing some trilogy fans may appreciate knowing: they’re determined to nail the ending this time, especially after the divided fan reaction to Mass Effect 3’s ending. “I think it’s fair to say we are very sensitive on the project about our ending. And we a lot of internal focus testing on it as well,” Walters said. “That’s probably something we’re more aware of and we’re paying more attention to it for sure. It’s changed in that regard.”

By the Goddess, that's a fraking ugly Asari.

I think she's adorable, love her design. Was anybody else really sick of seeing the same Asari faces over and over and over again in the old Mass Effect games? It's looks like they're actually going for distinct, diverse facial structures, as opposed to the generic interchangeable barbie doll Asari from the original series. Here's to hoping all the Asari in Andromeda are as 'ugly' as this one.

No, actually you don't. It simply looks wrong at full speed, not just for me, but others who commented on it. It looks cartoony whilst the art style is not so if that's what they're going for it's a strange choice. When you run it in slow motion you realise why it looks so wrong - because there is no facial animation, there is a smile then there is a frown, there is no smooth motion between the two like in normal animations.

What I originally suggested was simply that because this is most likely pre-alpha footage, the rest of the animation will be put in down the path. It didn't even look like a cut scene but simply an animation run rendered in the game engine, and therefore (hopefully) there is nothing to worry about.

And we a lot of internal focus testing on it as well,” Walters said. “That’s probably something we’re more aware of and we’re paying more attention to it for sure. It’s changed in that regard.”

From the same article:

“If you go back to the original Mass Effect, there was that sort of awe of going to a new galaxy and meeting all these aliens for the first time—new races, new cultures, new civilizations,” Andromeda’s creative director, Mac Walters, told us in Los Angeles during an EA gaming showcase today. “We want to bring that back.”

Andromeda, which is set to come out in early 2017 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One, takes place far away from the other Mass Effect games; it’s set in an entirely different galaxy. You’re playing as a human, but you should feel like an alien, too, Walters stressed. “The twist we are putting on it is that this isn’t your home. Here, everybody is looking at you and going ‘Who are you?’ as well.”

Well, so much for hoping the delay would result in being able to play as one of the alien races.   :crying:

would have been such more simpler had ME3's endings not been what they were, but something better. even if ME:A canon requires a timeskip because of the sheer distance, it would have been much simpler if continuity from the me3 endings was an option available to bioware.

yawn.

Had there been any variation whatsoever in the endings, they'd have the same dilemma.

Perceived quality of the ending really doesn't have anything to do with it.

Given how DA:I approached open-world quests, perhaps we'll get to fly around to dozens of planets, climbing trees, cliffs, and abandoned ruins in order to collect 60 crystal shards so that we can unlock some ancient crypt and gain one whole extra ability point.  <_<

Yeah, that was never going to happen. Different races in Dragon Ages mostly change in size. Races in Mass Effect have completely different skeletons and proportions, apart from Asari.
