That's how I felt after watching the EA Play video.

EA Play, in general, was pointless. Mass Effect Andromeda was underwhelming. The Star Wars game showing was underwhelming. Titanfall 2 looks like Titanfall with some new abilities. Honestly, Battlefield 1 was probably the most interesting showing and I'm not sold on the setting of WWI. As was the case with E3 in 2014, EA had a lot of projects that were early in development but not a lot to show for it.

In theory. In practice, it's EA wanting to cash in on the hype of the E3 week while saving a quick buck by footing their own bill for a cheap convention event because they've never been actually good at E3 showings in the first place. And your idea would involve actually showing more than trailers.

They are showing more than just trailers. They have Battlefield 1, Titanfall 2, and EA Sports games all available to play for the public. The press conference really was just for the world, but the main EA Play event is actually allowing people there to play the games. EA is changing tactics from E3 because E3 has always been a glorified showcase with no substance. EA wants to make it just about games, so they are demoing the games they have available.

Except nothing was actually explored nor discovered.

That's the point. Let the player discover.

You mean the actual point is BioWare had nothing to show for E3 so they put together a pointless trailer that barely had any new information because they don't want to show off the game until N7 Day. I believe that's what you are trying to convey in your posts.

This is barely better than the trailer we got last year of pre-alpha footage and just typical PR talk about how awesome Mass Effect is. The game looks great, but I want to actually SEE it in action. I'm tired of BioWare talking how amazing it is but not showing anything. I get they want to copy BGS' approach and not show us anything major until right before the release of the game. However, they should have never leaked MEA's development so early to start. We've known the game has had a playable build since 2013. It's three years later and we still have barely seen any footage.

I suppose. And it's driving people mad although on this forum I'm not surprised, just annoyed. But better than nothing I always say.

I think the trailer was definitely worth while. I would have preferred to see a bit of gameplay but I have no interest in them releasing things like the plot. Background yes, but no story you see later in the game.

The idea of cramming lots of little clues into the trailer is actually pretty cool imo. But as I said in the other thread, it is important they lead somewhere.

Honestly with what they had for ME:A.... if Bioware simply released it onto their youtube channel, I think people wouldn't have had the expectations they (and I) had given the scale and expectations that are generally associated with E3.

Wouldn't be surprised if EA put some pressure on them to have it because WE NEED BIG GAME NAMES FOR EA PLAAAAAY

Well, there can be a reason for that.   For example, if we have determined that asari are the natural selection of the universe, and not humans, then we can justify that a human would be holding a knife to her throat (if in fact she is "alien").  Which we saw in the trailer.

So, I mean, we can make a lot of assumptions based off'a these trailers and have them proved right or wrong, via street justice.  Which always proves who's the strongest.

There's nothing inherently lacking in substance in E3. That's on the individual companies. EA is bad at it. And they're just as bad at it on their own terms.

Oh, but look, we have DEMO BOOTHS. We're so open to the public, doing this limited local thing with something we could just as easily be doing by releasing actual downloadable demo versions through our own Origin service. The only reason it's "open to the public" is that's the only reason anyone would go there. Gaming media is more interested in E3, where there's actual variety.

And no one wants to go to a convention just to play a bleeping sports game. At that point you might as well buy a ticket to an actual sporting event.

at least we have some new game footage, new info, very good news btw, better animations, thos beautiful new planet landscapes,  maybe in the next months we have a new trailer or even some actual gameplay, and besides this game is to be released next year so there must be updates in the coming months, and the release date is not so far away . i'm very exited for this game :)

I will agree, the new environments looked gorgeous.   As well as character models, if a little cartoonish.

EA just wanted to get onto the hype train that Bethesada created last year with their presser.  The difference is that Bethesda actually had something to show and generated a lot of excitement.  EA just put most of us to sleep.  I watched the entire thing on Twitch and it was a major waste of time.  No real news.  No real reason to watch.

The game is 7-9 months off, and that really isn't that long in terms of video game development time. Especially since Andromeda has been in the works for like 5 years. Bioware should be showing some gameplay. The fact that we are a little over half a year from launch and they have shown no gameplay at all, is a bit concerning.

The thing is there is one major step in game development that probably hasn't happened yet and that is platform optimization and that is what bit BioWare hard with Dragon Age: Inquisition.  They showed the Crestwood video a few months before released, but due to optimization they had to cut a lot of that content out and the community got angry over it because it raised expectations and it never happened.  Maybe if people understood that things change we might have had something similar to the Crestwood demonstration, but since the community has proven time after time they will get angry over anything and everything the majority of people suffer.  I remember with Mass Effect 2 the amount of anger because "BioWare spoiled the game" by showing the opening cinematic to the game.

Seriously, less than a year away from release and all they give us is a lame 2-minute trailer? Nothing groundbreaking, just more of the same we saw in that panel a year or so ago.

PS: Asari with eyebrows look like trannies.

There's not a single circumstance in which some large contingent of the fanbase won't get angry and pissy about something or other. BioWare trying to make everyone happy at once will only result in half-measures that satisfy no one. Better to give it their all and not worry about who will moan about what.

I'm still looking for the "why" there. Why do we have to see that stuff now? When did we get that stuff for previous games?

Let's be honest, Broware has a track record with showing too much of their games prior to the release. They have been known of showing off light plot spoilers in their marketing going all the way back to E3 2007 where the Virmire/Wrex ordeal was played out during Mass Effect 1 demonstrations.

Had Broware stuck to their normal approaches, we would, by now know already:

1) How the game begins

2) Who the main villain is

3) A good number of our party members, their names, their backgrounds, and a hint of who we can romance

4) A few locations that are critical to the plot

5) Core background on the protagonist and how he/she came to their current position.

6) A critical plot point in the game that would have been better experienced had it not been shown off by Broware (Like the Virmire/Wrexham situation)

So yeah, I am glad that Broware is doing what they are doing.

They actually showed the opening of the game? That WAS pretty stupid. I know the player is going to see it two minutes in, anyway, but way to spoil it. Oh, well. I will say I would not have rushed to the forums to unleash my rage.

I would have liked to see some gameplay as well. Cinematics are pretty and all, but I'm far more curious about UIs and the like. They could have still been doing the final tweaks on the gameplay, and that's not uncommon even this far into development. Still, a game can look as pretty as the devs want and it won't do a lick of good if the gameplay sucks.

But eh, it's going to be months before the game drops. I'm not going to spend the next two-three seasons stressing over this. BioWare can and has had some great games (YMMV on what those games are,) but I guess I'm not that emotionally invested. Now, if the entire summer passes, and N7 comes and goes with just that to go on, then I'm going to be really annoyed. However, it's the middle of June and the game isn't due out until early next year-ish. They've got plenty of time to actually show off more.

The devs did tweet that there will be more ME:A stuff being shown when E3 fully starts on the 14th.

I hope they learn from Fallout 4 and doesn't release the game without anyone knowing anything about the game, build up expectation too high and have it fail all over their face.
