This is exactly what I thought when I first saw her. She looks like a teenager 13-15 years old (so what 40-50 for an asari?) so like Mission from Knights of the Old Republic. And I love how everyone has jumped to the conclusion that she is a romance option.

Also this thread has made me hate the human race even more than I already did with their limited definition of "beautiful".

I said the same thing! She looks so young.

But I mean, everyone has their own definition of beautiful. No reason to hate for it, I would think.

Okay, maybe hate is a strong word... frustration? She looks like a teenager, but all people can say is her face is too round and she looks like a man? Nice.  <_<

I honestly want to know more about her, since at this moment she is the only character that we've seen/heard anything about that I'm even remotely interested in. And even better if she really is an asari teenager, this would be an awesome change from the asari in the OT.

*They do need to get rid of her eyebrows though, as asari don't have that...unless you're Liara and Benezia.

I don't know. They probably age like we do and look 18 for like 80 years. Given their lifespan I thought they'd be wiser.

Right; but there is baggage. Red Jenny doesn't do much for the inquisition, and Sera is kind of a loose cannon.

Well, it is all about perspective I suppose. But I should probably stop talking about DA:I in this thread.

Don't want to lock it.

She's attractive.

I think people get caught up in the idea that all female video game characters have to look like Maxim models.

This Asari is attractive in a very down to Earth way.

I have to admit i dont know why people are hating so much on this character, i think shes pretty cute... i mean its been what, 4 years since the last game? Technology has moved forward since then, (in both contexts) so because they are using a new engine they of course are going to need to redesign the races... i hope the Turians havent changed too much though, i can imagine them looking so much cooler and badass in the new game

I think I like her. I don't know where is all the hate coming from. I'm sure she will look a bit different in game.

How can an Asari be transgender? They don't even have sexes.

Exactly.

He decided he is actually a "gendered person" as opposed a "non-gendered" person; henceforth, he'll be the first "transgendered" Asari.

Actually, if I turn out to be correct about that, I'm going to laugh my butt off...

The design is mostly good, but some of the facial lines are incongruous with the character's apparent youth, so those should be smoothed out, and of course the eyebrows have to go. Like, now.

It's just that one of the things that makes asari distinct from humans is their aquatic-mammal-esque near-hairlessness, which gave me thought that some of their ancestors may have been aquatic or amphibious. It was an interesting tidbit that made them seem less like pure fanservice (for the same reason, I like their scale-like skin patterns).

Maybe it is liara if you forgot Asari can live upto 1000 years old so if mea is set 3 to 4 hundred years after the reapers

It's not Liara.  Liara is:  a.) back in the Milky Way when these characters leave for Andromeda; and b.) possibly incinerated on Earth.

They do have a biological sex. They're all female.

I do agree with your basic point however, in that a transgender Asari would be a bit odd in that the whole concept of gender identity is alien to them. Since they only come in one biological sex, words like male and female are meaningless to them. From their perspective all Asari are just Asari, with no need to specify gender. A trans Asari would be identifying as another species, since there is no such thing as a male Asari.

A trans character would make much more sense if human or one of the alien species that comes in two genders, like Turians, Quarians, Drell, ect.

No, they are not. I think Liara explained this in ME1.

Argh, unclear exposition has been confusing people for nearly a decade on the sexuality of the asari.

The asari are an all-female species that reproduces via a form of parthenogenesis. They are not an asexual species, as is clearly evident from their bevy of primary and secondary sexual characteristics, which are likely evolutionary holdovers from an ancestral species that reproduced in a more conveniently sexual manner.

Xil covered it well.

To her post I'll just add that the codex specifically states the Asari are an all female species. Liara doesn't really contradict that either, as she was referring to gender identity, not their biological sex.

Liara was the equivalent of an Asari teenager when we met her. She was 103 years into a 1000 year lifespan. As much as I liked Liara, I don't need another naive Asari attempting to fill her shoes. As far as this new Asari goes (with the skid-marked, baby fat face)....she looks like a pre-teen in human years. And if that's the case, she's a damn infant in Asari terms. I don't see how babysitting Asari kids is such an awesome change from the trilogy. But I guess everybody has their thing....

Post-teenager. I think she was the asari equivalent of maybe 24-25, which is still very young in human terms to have a doctorate.

The situation might be similar, but Liara wasn't the equivalent of a teenager. She was considered young, but she had a doctorate or the asari equivalent. I doubt a teenager would'be considered an expert on Protheans. Based on what Samara said about Morinth I think 60 years, more or less, are considered to be the teen years for asari.

I get being cautious, but saying the asari is naive from a few facial expression is a bit exaggerated.

I never got the reason that just because someone is young (whatever that may mean), they are automatic naive and blue eyed.

There are kids that has been through things that have made them jaded and more "mature" (aka cynical) then most adult.

40 to 60 seems to be the age range where they reach adulthood. Liara had been working as an archaeologist for 50 years in ME1, which puts her at 56 when she started her career. Since she had a university degree, she was presumably in college during her early to mid 50s. There is an Asari on Illium that can be overheard saying she's 60 years old and finally moving out of her parents house, but the way she phrases that might indicate she remained home longer than usual. Samara states that Morinth left home in her 40s, but adds that she was very young, which might mean that Morinth left at an age that wasn't typical. It's possible Morinth was the Asari equivalent of a teen runaway.

Never been much of a fan of the 'completely oblivious to danger until a weapon is brandished at their face' characterizations, myself.  Seems like something you see a lot of in anime.

Now, it's possible that the whole scene has different context, with the character being appropriately somber, overcome with relief that the POV character is there and then reminded of the dire straights, but that isn't the vibe I got from it.

The vibe I got was 'doofy derpy character who just wants to jump on their favorite person while being oblivious to the fact that other people present might want to kill them, until one of the aggressors shocks, confuses and dismays them with a pointed show of aggression'.

Hopefully my impression is incorrect.
