I think they did that to make it so that you can't really tell what race she is and leave it ambiguous. Also Did she have a ponytail? Did BioWare figure out long hair mechanics?

I doubt we'd get just that type of nose in the CC.

Hopefully. I still keep low expectations on the hairs in the CC.

The asari looks 'boyish' to me, if that makes any sense. Like a young one. I wouldn't even count on it being the final look, but it's possible.

She's a new character and a bit less serious. She's like that psycho merc who got killed off in ME2 but uh, seems less cray-cray of the evil-ish sort.

 

Hopefully she's different enough we can later say she's more than Liara with painted-on eyebrows.

Look! Asari aren't fan service for straight males anymore! We fixed them!

 

I mean....I'm okay with that. The asari as a concept are interesting but their overall portrayal was pretty much blue space babes.

 

I think it's less "not traditionally attractive" and more "realistically attractive characters who just don't look like flawless photoshopped cover models". 

 

That aside I'm impressed by the animation.   

 

There's more options than photoshopped model or beaten with the ugly stick. I do find her to be fairly masculine in features, specifically the jaw and mouth, and while that's not ugly, I would not classify her as a traditionally beautiful example of female beauty.

 

I do think if this is an asari redesign then it would be interesting, if they're going for a more androgynous look which makes sense for a monogendered species. If the masculine features were not intended, then I'm a little worried about the facial features and animations.
